Chapter 22 - Trouble Calling 5

He kept on with his fast pace as he swept through the tight road. His heart kept on increasing it's rate of beating, From time to time, he would look back to check whether the thugs were still there. Every time he did so, he would meet the gaze of the smirking young man still running towards him like a ghost in a horror movie.

After running for a long while, he finally saw a free road. As soon as his eyes set on the free road, he was immediately filled with joy. He immediately accelerated in an unbelievable speed towards the opening leading to the road. His idea was very simple. All he had to do was run into the road and he would be safe. He felt that as long as he could get into the road, there would definitely be a lot of people there. He didn't believe that the thugs would have the mind to make any serious move on a plain road filled with people. Happiness clouded his judgement to the extent that he wasn't able to observe the so called road to safety well, because if he had done so, he would have noticed that something was definitely not right.

The young thug ran behind Emmanuel happily. Previously, when Emmanuel had ran into that opening, he was beyond glad. Emmanuel had missed something back then. What he had missed was similar to the strategy he was trying to employ now. Before he had ran into this road, he was actually already in a main road. Even if the people on the road could be said to be scanty, they were still people there, and so the thugs would have had to consider that. This was something that the young man and his thugs had failed to consider at first. It was until Emmanuel ran into the passage that he had considered that.

Emmanuel ran and ran and ran, and then soon he was extremely close to the opening. His face was currently carrying a champion grin as he felt the trophy of victory was just so close to being in his hand. In no time he boosted to the opening and jumped out.

As soon as he jumped out, a panic expression immediately came unto his face. The sight he was greeted with was nothing like what he thought it was going to be. His road to victory had become a way to a dead end. As soon as Emmanuel got out of the narrow way, the view that came into his eyes was nothing like a buzzling market or environment with people around. Instead what he came across was a little space surrounded by buildings from all sides. There wasn't even any visible road no matter how narrow which he could at least use to continue his escape. He had trapped himself. Having no other choice, even though he knew it was impossible, he turned around towards that little road between buildings which he came in from. He wanted to boost back and maybe at least he would be able to see another opening and make use of it before the thugs caught up to him. Even if he knew it was impossible, he still wanted to try. At this point, the disarray in his heart didn't let him think straight, he was acting on pure instinct.

He immediately started another round of sprinting boosting across the narrow road. The road in question was really narrow and curved, so he wasn't able to determine where the thugs had reached. He ran and ran and just when he started to see some sought of light, a desperate smile immediately came into his face. There was hope.

In no time he got closer to the source of the light, and was about to switch his direction towards it, when he suddenly saw shadows running from his previous direction. He knew it was going to be the thugs, and so he smiled and immediately turned towards the opening. He ran across it in no time, but then just when he was getting close to the end, the worst happened. Two figures butted in from the other end of the passage. As soon as his gaze clashed with the gazes of the other two figures, he was startled. He recognised this two figures to be part of the five extra thug the wrist watch seller had brought with him.

He immediately knew he was done for. He stood there for a very little while when an idea suddenly came into his mind. He wanted to go look for another opening. Just maybe luck would shine on him again and he would be able to not only see one but get out of the situation. Not wanting to waste anymore seconds, he began his race yet again, running towards the opening he just came in from. As soon as he busted out from it, he immediately turned towards his left hoping to see whether he could find another opening. Alas, what he was greeted with was the sight of the fast approaching three thugs. He was cornered.

The thugs in no time got to the statue like Emmanuel who was currently standing still why calculating madly upstairs on whether was still anyway out left for him. He thought and considered all scenarios, but he was just unable to find any way.

With every seconds that passed by, the thugs closed in on him. At this point, they were so close to him that they had stopped running and instead were walking majestically towards him. They seemed to be familiar with the road and so knew there was no way out. As their legs carried out steps moving forward, Emmanuel legs started doing the opposite as it moved backwards. In no time, he was back to the enclosed road which he had just left. he kept moving backwards while thugs moved forward. They to came out from the opening and so the seven of them including Emmanuel were the only people available in the vicinities.

" Look, I know I was wrong, and I acknowledge that. I shouldn't have let you fall. How about this, let me pay for a single watch or at least two watches, yes two watches that way you could use the money to repair the damaged watches and even keep the change for yourself " Emmanuel suddenly started saying. This weren't just words he stated out of panic, but words stemmed from pity which he felt for this young man.
