" All hands in the air ", Mito paused as soon as he heard it. He wasn't the only one who reacted this way as the rest of the thugs also did the same. They were all shocked, fear gripped their entire being. Ade quickly turned back and gaze at the scenery behind him. He and the other thugs already had a faint idea of who said that. In Nigeria, only one group of people could use those words so oppressively, the police. Mito whose hands still hanged in the air stared at Emmanuel in shock.
" You..., you called the police " Mito exclaimed in his shocked state. He couldn't think of anybody tat could have possibly called the police in this situation if not Emmanuel. A ruthless expression suddenly appeared on his face " Since you don't know what's good for you, I would take you down with me " He yelled as he attempted to plunge the knife on Emmanuel again, only that this time, his target wasn't Emmanuel's hand, but his head.
" I said hands up, don't do anything stupid, or trust me you would live the rest of your life regretting this decision " A voice resounded from behind again. Mito whose hands drew closer to Emmanuel's head finally paused his hands. He choose to let go at the end. He knew that there was still a chance of him getting a lighter sentence for this. Though the so called light sentence should be nothing lesser than ten years. The police staffs behind Emmanuel and the thugs immediately walked towards the thugs and started putting hand-cuffs on their wrist. Mito who was still in his squatting position facing Emmanuel was forcefully dragged up and then cuffed.
Emmanuel after a while finally overcame the fear reeking within him and stood up. He wasn't any less flabbergasted by the occurrence than the thugs. He had already thought it was all over, and decided to cling onto God, at least, even if he died after everything, he would still make heaven. That was his thought at that point. And then suddenly, police seemed to have bumped in from no where and stopped the entire farce.
" Are you okay " A man police on uniform walked up to Emmanuel and said. His eyes currently carrying a gaze filled with pity. " I am fine " Emmanuel said, he was quite close to being an adult and so he was quick to regain his cool. " Are you sure, where you hurt anywhere " The man spoke again as he started scanning Emmanuel's skin with his eyes. " No I wasn't " Emmanuel replied the man, " Thanks for your consign sir " He said. The police man just shrugged his shoulders and then replied, " No problem, it's my job ". " On the contrary, I owe you one as I arrived late, if not you wouldn't had had to go through so much. I would like to apologise for that " The Police man spoke again, only this time in an apologetic tone.
" No worries sir " Emmanuel immediately spoke as soon as he heard the man. What did he mean by he came late and it is his job. There exist so many police men in Nigeria, but a tangible amount gives no damn about their jobs, and would most times ignore calls made to them or the general police contact line. Yet this man had came, and just at the right timing, before he acquired any serious injury. He was beyond thankful towards the man and to some extent even felt like going on his kneels to thank him. But he could tell that the man wasn't that sort of person, and he might end up irritating or annoying him instead of thanking him.
But there was still one thing that Emmanuel was yet to understand. Earlier, Mito had mentioned suspecting Emmanuel of calling the police, but that was the odd thing. The truth was that Emmanuel hadn't contacted the police or any law enforcement agency as his nervousness hadn't given him enough time to think. So since he didn't, who did.
" Sorry sir " Emmanuel suddenly spoke, halting the police man who was about to leave. The police man stopped and looked towards Emmanuel with a questioning gaze, " Any problem " he spoke. " Please I didn't make the call, could I get to know who did " Emmanuel spoke.
