Chapter 23 - Chapter 23: Kill the Boss of the Vortex Gang

After speaking, Bu Laike quickly donned the exoskeleton armor he had bought from a military supplier.

The armor showed signs of heavy use, likely from a previous battle. Some weapons that should have been integrated into the design were missing, and there were additional systems that had never been released to the public. Despite these imperfections, Bu Laike had spent 50,000 Euros to acquire this armor, which was about the same as a month's worth of food expenses for hundreds of Maelstrom Gang members. (In the cyberpunk world, high-tech synthetic food was incredibly cheap.)

However, the armor was just the beginning. Bu Laike had to purchase other weapons separately.

As soon as Bu Laike put on the armor, he saw V and Jack rushing toward the warehouse.

"Haha! You bastards, I'll let you taste the power of my big baby!" Bu Laike laughed maniacally.

With that, he began firing the heavy machine gun in his hands wildly.

"F**k! Malasuerte (damn)! Where did this guy get this thing?" Jack shouted, his eyes wide with disbelief.

"Hurry up and take cover!" he yelled to V.

Jack had occasionally seen combat robots used by the NCPD during terrorist operations, but this armor was something else entirely. It was no mere robot; it was a whole new level of danger.

"V! Don't worry! I'm hacking into his system right now!" Lucy's voice crackled through their earpieces, giving them some hope.

"Come on! Come on! Come on! Let you taste my strength!" Bu Laike shouted, laughing manically. "If you dare to mess with the Maelstrom, I'll turn you into a sieve!"

As Bu Laike charged forward, it was clear that he had gone insane from the side effects of the exoskeleton armor. While the armor was a powerful piece of tech, its side effects were more intense than the prosthetic body used by King Kong in the anime, though not as severe. Still, the consequences were too much for Bu Laike to handle without proper inhibitors.

As Bu Laike neared Jack's position, the exoskeleton armor began to malfunction, electric sparks running through its systems.

Click! Click! Zzzt!

"F**k!" Bu Laike cursed, as the armor's power surged, but he immediately realized what was happening.

No matter how stupid Bu Laike was, he knew that V and the others had a hacker helping them. He quickly looked up and knocked out the surveillance cameras in the warehouse.

The reason military-grade armor was so vulnerable to hacking was simple: Bu Laike had removed the anti-hacking chip to make the armor more customizable.

"V! He knocked out the monitors, but I've uploaded a virus into his system," Lucy's voice sounded calm. "His movements will be much harder to control now."

"Thanks, Lucy," V responded gratefully.

Bu Laike, trapped in his malfunctioning armor, felt as if his limbs had been encased in cement.

With the virus in place, V and Jack switched to guerrilla tactics. They used the cover of the warehouse's walls to keep up a steady stream of fire while Bu Laike struggled to retaliate. He could only barely hold off their attacks.

Desperation fueled Bu Laike's actions as he looked around. He smashed the exoskeleton armor into the wall.

Boom!

"I'll go! Is Peter this crazy?" Jack shouted in surprise, looking at the damage Bu Laike had caused to the walls and floor, which were now littered with Maelstrom Gang members.

"A**hole!" Bu Laike's frustration boiled over. His last line of defense had been shattered, and the Maelstrom Gang's elite soldiers were now lying unconscious on the ground. Without them, his gang would lose a significant portion of its territory.

In a fit of rage, Bu Laike raised the machine gun again, aiming to fire, but the feeling of being hacked overwhelmed him again, and his movements grew stiff.

"You think I'm a dead man, huh?" Peter's voice rang out, cold and confident, as he broke into the exoskeleton's program.

At that moment, Bu Laike found himself completely immobilized. Aside from his head, which could still move, the rest of his body was completely locked in place by the exoskeleton.

If not for the hydraulic system supporting the weight of the armor, Bu Laike would have been completely useless.

"Jack, go and bring out the person our client wants," Peter ordered.

Peter leaped down from the beam and stepped onto the body of a fallen Maelstrom Gang member. He surveyed the grotesque sight of the gang member in front of him, whose face had been altered into a grotesque mechanical eye. Peter couldn't help but feel disgusted.

Jack quickly ran back into the warehouse and carried out the unconscious son of the wealthy client they were tasked to rescue.

"Young master is different," Jack muttered as he scanned the bodies of the Maelstrom Gang members.

Jack's prosthetic cross-optic eye scanned the bodies on the floor. He could tell that some of the gear on the Maelstrom boys was high-end, but unfortunately, it was all civilian-grade equipment—not really useful for someone like him.

However, Jack's eyes lit up when he scanned the weapons the Maelstrom boys had dropped.

"I'll go! These guys have some really good gear," Jack exclaimed.

The weapons and military-grade equipment scattered across the floor were valuable, and while these things wouldn't fetch much in a video game, they had real-world value. If they managed to collect all the weapons and prosthetics, they could sell them for a small fortune. And the exoskeleton armor alone could fetch a decent price from middlemen willing to buy it.

"Search all these guys' weapons and gear, Jack. You know who to sell them to, right?" Peter said.

Jack grinned. "Hey, I might not know much else, but I know a lot of people who will pay top dollar for this stuff. Don't worry, everything here can be sold for a good price, especially that big guy's armor."

The exoskeleton armor, though covered in bullet marks and battle damage, still had great resale value. In fact, if it wasn't for Peter and Lucy hacking into the system, this armor would have been a powerful weapon in a direct confrontation.

As Jack and Peter discussed their plans to sell the loot from the Maelstrom Gang, Bu Laike's fury reached its boiling point.

"You bastards! The Maelstrom Gang will hunt you down! We'll make sure you pay!" Bu Laike screamed, still furious.

Boom!

Peter, hearing Bu Laike's threats, didn't waste any more time. He raised his weapon and fired at Bu Laike, silencing him with a shot.

No need for more words. Bu Laike's fate was sealed, and Peter had no intention of letting him live.

Perhaps Bu Laike was about to meet Satan, or perhaps not. Either way, it didn't matter anymore.
