Peter was already familiar with the gameplay of this game. As soon as Judy mentioned the "defender," his DNA seemed to activate. Wasn't this his favorite FPS game from his previous life—APEX?
He hadn't expected to encounter any resemblance to that game in this cyberpunk world.
"Let me try it," Peter said eagerly, already moving toward the chair to get ready.
Though he hadn't been a professional hunter in his past life, Peter had honed his skills to a near-mastery level. Now, with a superhuman body in this world, his reflexes and fine motor control were far superior to anything he'd experienced before.
What were Terminator-level robots? Once he entered, he would turn into "Brother Suozi" and show these robots what true social evil looked like.
Seeing Peter's confident demeanor, Judy wasn't surprised when he immediately jumped into action. She inserted the game chip into the server in her studio—after all, the game couldn't run properly without it.
Once everything was set up, Judy handed Peter the Mewtwo device.
"Just a heads-up," Judy began. "There are sensory settings in this game. I suggest you turn them off when you enter. They're only half-developed, so there might be bugs."
"I understand. Let's get started," Peter replied, ready to dive in.
Judy pressed the button to start the game. A white light flashed, and Peter found himself in a training ground.
"This is the training area, the introductory tutorial everyone must go through. You can only start the real game after completing it," Judy's voice echoed.
Peter looked around, finding himself in a shooting range. The tutorial seemed straightforward, and as he followed along, he tried out every firearm available.
With his enhanced muscle memory and cognitive abilities, he immediately mastered perfect gun control with a single shot.
However, there was one catch—since the game was still in development, all the characters in the training area were blank slates. They had no special skills, and aside from their appearances, they were identical.
After completing the tutorial, Peter selected the "Terminator" difficulty and entered the official game.
"Let's fight to our heart's content, mercenaries!" a voice announced as the flight cabin opened. A gust of wind rushed into the cabin, and Peter felt the pressure immediately.
Without hesitation, he leaped out of the cabin and into the air.
Judy, watching from the outside, couldn't help but be surprised at Peter's lack of hesitation. Most players would take a moment to survey the map, but Peter had a clear goal in mind. He quickly adjusted his flight angle to land more swiftly in a dense, trash-strewn town below.
Once he landed, Peter grabbed a shotgun and immediately turned the muzzle toward the sound of footsteps behind him.
"Boom!"
The gunshot echoed as it hit a robot, sending it crashing into a nearby box.
"I'll be damned, a full spray?" Judy muttered, wide-eyed.
There was no armor when Peter landed, so most players would use a spray gun to hit a few targets and move on. But Peter's spray was far more precise, hitting the robot's head with at least 80% of the bullets. The robot was taken out in one go.
Without wasting time, Peter opened the supply capsules, retrieving a rifle that resembled a rattlesnake. Based on its look, Peter figured it was the R301 model.
He didn't linger too long on gathering supplies. After grabbing a blue armor set, some gun accessories, and medical supplies, he was ready to go.
Peter began his killing spree.
Watching the game from outside through the Mewtwo device, Judy and Jack were utterly stunned.
Peter seamlessly switched between a rifle and a shotgun, expertly handling both long-range and close-quarter combat. Every time he saw a robot, it was quickly neutralized with a barrage of bullets, and if one got too close, he'd swap to the shotgun to finish the job.
In Judy's eyes, the robots, which were like basic bots or even "cheats," were nothing but toys in Peter's hands. His armor took minimal damage from their counterattacks, often only losing two units of durability.
After clearing out a small town, Peter swapped his shotgun for a better version of his rifle. Not only did he upgrade his armor to the highest-grade gold armor, but he also equipped the best accessories available on his firearms.
He only carried 180 rounds of rifle ammunition and 16 rounds for the shotgun, with the rest of his inventory filled with medical supplies and grenades.
After exiting the trash-filled town, Peter had already taken down ten robots, dealing a total of 2,600 damage. He climbed a nearby skydiving tower and flew toward the center of the map.
This central area was densely packed with robots, and it was known as the most dangerous zone in the entire game.
When Peter landed, he immediately attempted to persuade the robots in the housing area to stop fighting. Of course, that didn't last long. After clearing out three robots in a small room, Peter rushed to the next battlefield without pausing for a second.
In the end, under the astonished gaze of Judy and Jack, Peter delivered a final blow to the last robot with a single punch.
He had completed the game in less than 16 minutes and was already on the third-place leaderboard.
A white light flashed, and Peter was kicked out of the game.
"Whew, what a f*****g joy," Peter said, stretching his arms as he woke up, feeling utterly refreshed. This had been the most enjoyable experience he'd had in this world.
Judy stared at him, her eyes wide with disbelief.
Peter, always one to maintain a thick skin, felt a little embarrassed under her intense gaze. "What's the matter, Judy? You got something to say?"
Judy couldn't help but laugh nervously, her tone incredulous. "You really look like a monster."
She couldn't help but break eye contact, sighing as she processed what she had just witnessed.
