Chapter 17 - Dreaming Again

Avasyu couldn't understand what was happening to him. Why was he dreaming again? And when had it even begun?

He sat quietly on his bed, trying to make sense of it. Why was this happening? For what reason was he dreaming again?

Then, he recalled—the last time he had this kind of dream was when he was about to die. If that pattern held true, did that mean he was going to die again? Was that why this dream was happening?

But nothing had happened yet. To figure out what was coming, he needed to go with the flow of the dream.

He stood up from his bed and walked toward the door.

Stepping outside, he looked around. Everything was normal. Nothing seemed different at all.

But his guard wasn't there.

Avasyu wandered around, searching for him, but the guard was nowhere to be found.

Finally, he went to the guard's room and found him sleeping, snoring loudly. He approached and tried to wake him up, shaking his shoulder.

"Mr. Guard, wake up! Wake up, Mr.! Today is the first day of my training. Come on, wake up!"

As he spoke, Avasyu tugged at the guard's hand. But no matter how much he called him, the guard didn't even budge. It wasn't enough to wake him up.

Growing impatient, Avasyu grabbed the water bottle from the table and sprinkled a few droplets onto the guard's face, hoping to wake him gently. But there was no reaction.

Frowning, he poured the entire bottle of water over him.

Still, nothing.

A chill ran down Avasyu's spine. He tensed up and sat at the edge of the bed, near the guard's knee.

That's when it hit him.

Since this morning, he hadn't seen a single person.

Why hadn't he seen anyone?

To make sure, he stepped outside the room again. But there was no one—no guards, no passing figures. The hall was empty. The atrium was empty too.

A growing unease settled in his chest.

He hurried to the other rooms. Inside, he found them still asleep. He approached one of the boy's room and tried to wake him, shaking his shoulder. No response.

Frowning, he grabbed the water bottle and poured some on the boy's face. Still nothing.

"What is happening? Why is everyone asleep?"

His voice echoed in the silence, but no answer came.

He rushed to another room. Another boy was there, sleeping. Avasyu shook him, called him—but it was no use.

He moved to the next room. This time, it was a girl. Desperate, he poured water on her face.

No reaction.

She didn't wake up.Like the guard.Like the boys.

And just like them, she was snoring.

It wasn't a coincidence. It couldn't be.

No one was waking up, no matter what he did.

"It seems someone has put everyone to sleep... but why am I still awake?"

Avasyu's thoughts were spiraling. Panic threatened to take over, but he knew that to solve this, he first needed to calm his mind.

He sat on the ground, closed his eyes, and began meditating.

Fifteen minutes passed before he finally felt his mind settle. He remained in that position a little longer, thinking carefully about his next move.

After a while, he made a decision—he would check outside and see if anyone else had woken up like him.

Determined, he moved through the rooms one by one. But the result was always the same.

Everyone was asleep.Everyone was snoring.

Then, something caught his attention.

A pattern.

First, no one was waking up, no matter what he did.

Second, everyone was snoring.

Third, they were all sleeping on their backs.

No matter what he did, he couldn't wake anyone up. Nor could he figure out the cause of this strange phenomenon.

Before he knew it, the day had turned into night.

Too quickly.

Avasyu felt as if time had slipped away in just three or four hours. It wasn't normal. But without a clock to confirm, he had no way to be sure. Not that it mattered anymore—it was already dark.

He decided to check the alarm for the time.

Standing by the table, he faced the alarm, his back turned toward the open door.

6:00 PM.

That was the exact moment he felt it.

A presence.

It wasn't just a feeling—it was something real, lingering just beyond the door. His entire body tensed. A cold shiver crawled down his spine.

He was frozen in fear.

He didn't know what was behind him. He hadn't seen anything. But his body had already reacted, instinctively recognizing the danger.

Slowly, cautiously, he turned his head.

What was it?

Why did he feel such overwhelming fear—without even laying eyes on it?

The room was dark—he had forgotten to turn on the lights. Outside, the darkness stretched endlessly. The silence was suffocating. It was as if nothing in the world was moving.

No air. No sound. No light.

Even he was frozen.

Slowly, he turned his head toward the open door.

What he saw sent a bone-deep chill through his entire body.

A fear beyond words.

A sight beyond comprehension.

Standing outside his room was a creature—a monstrous being resembling a leech, but far more terrifying. Its body was tall, at least six feet, its true color masked by the darkness. But what stood out were its eyes.

Glowing.Dark red.Dozens of it.

They were scattered around its mouth—if it could even be called that. Instead of a head, the creature had a gaping maw lined with countless razor-sharp teeth, like a lamprey's, twisted into a grotesque grin.

So many teeth.So many eyes.

And every single one of them was staring straight into Avasyu's soul.

This wasn't something he had ever imagined witnessing in his life.

A horrific creature—lurking inside the facility.

Watching him.

Waiting.

How had it gotten in? What was it doing outside his room?

His mind raced, but no answers came.

Nothing but fear.

Avasyu couldn't think.

His fear was paralyzing.

He was so terrified that he forgot this was just a dream. Forgot that even if the monster attacked, he wouldn't feel pain.

But none of that mattered now.

The creature was horrifying—beyond anything a human mind should ever witness. Just the sight of it could give someone a heart attack.

And it was coming inside.

Slowly. Crawling like a leech.

Avasyu instinctively took a step back, not even realizing he had moved. The monster crept closer, inch by inch, its grotesque form looming over him. It was massive.

Yet, it did nothing.

It was as if… it couldn't see him.

But Avasyu was too consumed by fear to notice.

The creature stopped.

Right in front of him.

But it wasn't looking at him—it was staring at the bed.

Everything fell into an eerie stillness. The air itself seemed afraid of the monster. The world went silent.

So silent that Avasyu could hear his own breathing.

So silent that he could hear his heart pounding in his chest.

Sweat dripped down his face.

Then, the monster growled.

It wasn't loud.

But it was everywhere.

The sound slithered into his ears, vibrating through his bones, as if the creature were growling right in his ear.

The sheer intensity of the noise made his legs weak.

He couldn't stand.

He collapsed.

As his consciousness faded, the last thing he saw was the monster's terrible mouth—gaping wide, revealing rows upon rows of razor-sharp teeth—opening to devour him whole.
