Ella's eyes lit up when she spotted her father, Eric, waiting for her by the arrivals gate. His warm smile welcomed her. She hadn't expected he would come to pick her up himself.
"Welcome back, sweetheart," Eric said, pulling her into a hug.
"Thanks, Dad," Ella replied, her smile genuine. "It's good to be home." Ella added, her tone surprisingly sincere as they walked toward the car.
The drive home from the airport was peaceful. Eric, who has learned from his past mistakes, is now a very attentive father. He asked about Ella's trip, her business, and how she was holding up.
Ella appreciated his effort. These past two years, her relationship with her father has gotten better. Ella, at times, finds herself complaining to him about her day and about some difficult clients. This was something she didn't dare to dream of in her past life, and when she just woke up.
