Chapter 11 - Chapter 11: Dancing Under a Comet’s Glow

Gabu's Diary Entry:

It's funny how the smallest moments can leave the biggest impressions. Tonight, under the starlit sky, something changed. Maybe it was the way her laughter filled the silence or how her presence felt warmer than the night air. Whatever it was, I can't get it out of my mind.

The day started like any other: Rei being her usual chaotic self, pulling me into her misadventures. But nothing could have prepared me for what she had planned that evening.

It was nearing the end of school when Rei suddenly appeared behind me, startling me with her usual, "Gabu, let's go!"

"Go where?" I asked, clutching my notebook like a shield. "I have homework to finish, you know."

Rei rolled her eyes. "Homework can wait. This is important."

"Important?" I repeated, raising an eyebrow. "The last time you said that, we ended up getting locked in the gym storage room."

"That was one time!" Rei protested, but the grin tugging at her lips told me she wasn't sorry in the slightest.

I sighed, already knowing I didn't have the strength to resist her. "Fine. But if this is another one of your ridiculous plans—"

"You'll thank me later," she interrupted, grabbing my wrist and dragging me out of the classroom before I could change my mind.

Rei led me through the quiet streets of the town, the sun dipping low on the horizon. The golden light bathed everything in a soft glow, making even the mundane buildings look magical.

"Are you going to tell me where we're going?" I asked as we turned onto a narrow path lined with trees.

"Nope," Rei said, her tone annoyingly cheerful. "You'll see when we get there."

I wanted to protest, but there was something in her voice—an excitement that was almost infectious. So, I followed her in silence, letting her pull me deeper into the unknown.

After what felt like an eternity, we reached the top of a small hill. The view was breathtaking: a clear sky stretched out above us, dotted with stars just beginning to appear.

"What is this place?" I asked, my voice barely above a whisper.

Rei let go of my wrist and spread her arms wide. "Welcome to my secret spot!"

"Your secret spot?"

"Yup. I found it last year. It's the best place to watch the stars."

I looked up at the sky, and for the first time in a long while, I felt a sense of peace. The stars seemed so close, like I could reach out and touch them.

Rei plopped down on the grass and patted the spot next to her. "Come on, sit down. You're ruining the vibe."

I hesitated for a moment before sitting down beside her, careful to keep a small distance between us.

"Why did you bring me here?" I asked, glancing at her out of the corner of my eye.

Rei leaned back on her elbows, her gaze fixed on the sky. "I thought you could use a break. You've been so stressed lately."

I frowned. "I'm not stressed."

"Gabu, you were muttering equations in your sleep during lunch yesterday," she said, giving me a pointed look.

I felt my face heat up. "That was one time!"

Rei laughed, the sound ringing out like music in the quiet night. "You're so predictable."

I crossed my arms, trying to ignore the fluttering in my chest. "If I'm so predictable, why do you keep dragging me into your crazy plans?"

She turned to me then, her expression unusually soft. "Maybe because you're the only one who makes them fun."

I froze, her words sinking in. Was she… serious?

Before I could respond, a streak of light shot across the sky—a comet, its tail blazing brightly.

"Whoa!" Rei exclaimed, sitting up straight. "Did you see that?"

I nodded, my eyes wide. "It was beautiful."

Another comet followed, then another, until the sky was alive with movement. It was like the universe had decided to put on a show just for us.

Rei turned to me, her face illuminated by the glow of the stars. "Make a wish, Gabu."

"A wish?"

"Yeah," she said, her voice softer now. "That's what you're supposed to do when you see a comet, right?"

I looked at her, the words catching in my throat. How could I make a wish when everything I wanted was sitting right next to me?

Instead, I closed my eyes and whispered the first thing that came to mind.

"I wish…"

"What did you wish for?" Rei asked, leaning closer.

I opened my eyes, meeting her curious gaze. "I can't tell you. It won't come true."

She pouted, but there was a twinkle in her eye. "Fine. Keep your secrets."

We sat there in silence for a while, the comets painting trails across the sky.

"Hey, Gabu," Rei said after a while, her voice unusually serious.

"Yeah?"

"Do you ever feel like we're part of something bigger? Like the universe is trying to tell us something?"

I blinked, surprised by the question. "I don't know. Maybe."

Rei smiled, her gaze distant. "I think we are. And I think… we're meant to figure it out together."

Her words sent a shiver down my spine, and for a moment, I felt like I was on the verge of understanding something monumental.

But before I could dwell on it, she stood up and offered me her hand. "Come on. Let's head back before you start muttering equations again."

I took her hand, letting her pull me to my feet. As we walked back down the hill, I couldn't help but glance at her, my heart heavy with questions I wasn't ready to ask.

What did she mean by "something bigger"?

And why did it feel like my world was starting to revolve around her?

Gabu's Diary Entry (That Night):

Rei has always been a force of nature—chaotic, unpredictable, impossible to ignore. But tonight, she was something else.

Under the glow of the comets, I saw a side of her I've never seen before. A side that made me wonder if there's more to her than I ever imagined.

What scares me most is how much I want to find out.
