Chereads / Love In The City Of Angels (LITCA) / Chapter 5 - Agent so secretive

Chapter 5 - Agent so secretive

 She stepped inside and pressed the button for the 19th floor, trying to remember how the receptionist had described, The doors slid open, and Lexi stepped out into the plush carpeted hallway.

She walked down the hall to room 1918 and inserted the key card into the slot, she paused to take a deep breath, pressing her waist to the door, a group of women passed all staring at her like she was some misplaced fellow, maybe she was...she suddenly remembered something, opened her purse and dig her hands into it, a look of satisfaction crossed her face as she found what she was looking for.

 Lexi brought out her mask and put it on, it was just a small eye gold mask and it gave her a bit of confidence, she turned the key and heard a click, The door swung open, revealing a stunning penthouse suite, Lexi wowed.

 The room was enormous, with floor-to-ceiling windows offering breathtaking views of the city, everything was either yellow, golden brown, or white, her eyes adjusted to the dim lighting, and she spotted a figure standing by the window, holding a whiskey glass.

"Hello?" Lexi muttered, a blush creeping on her face, she hoped he didn't see her gushing at this heaven."I'm Lexi, sent from Madam Isabella's Escort Agency."

 She watched the man standing by the window in a blue T-shirt that accentuated his broad shoulders chiseled chest and white baggy trousers, He glanced at her and her breath hitched, although he had a black mask on His piercing blue eyes sparkled in the dim light, and his chiseled features seemed to be carved from granite.

 "You're the girl for the night," He said heading towards her briskly and stopping in front of her.

 "Yes sir"Lexi answered lamely shocked that she did not know what his name was, madam Isabelle would have told her if the client wanted her to, guessing from the fact that he had a mask on she realized he must've told her he wanted his identity private.

 He lifted her head with a finger she swallowed deeply, feeling his eyes boring into her soul, making her feel naked and vulnerable. She tried to look away, but his finger held her captive.

 Jackson's eyes roamed over the woman in front of his face, his gaze lingering on her full lips, her sharp jawline, and her piercing eyes, Her eyes, Jackson thought, were truly her most striking feature. They were a deep, rich brown that seemed to sparkle with an inner light. And yet, despite their brightness, there was something innocent and vulnerable about Lexi's gaze. It was as if she was always looking at the world with a sense of wide-eyed wonder.

Jackson's thoughts turned to Lexi's lips, which were full and inviting, And then, of course, there was her body. Jackson's eyes snapped open as he thought about the way she had looked in that tight red dress. The way the fabric hugged her curves, accentuating the swell of her breasts and the narrowness of her waist, Jackson felt a surge of desire run through him but still even with the mask there was something about her that seemed familiar, something that tugged at his memory.

Lexi shifted uncomfortably under his intense stare, her eyes flashing with annoyance. "Can I help you with something?" she asked, her voice cool and detached.

 Jackson's eyes snapped back into focus, and he felt a flush rise to his cheeks. "Sorry," he muttered, his voice low and rough. "I was just... lost in thought, Take off your mask," Jackson said, his voice low and commanding.

 "I'm afraid that's not possible sir," Lexi said, her voice suddenly professional. "My agency has strict protocols in place to protect our clients' identities. Removing my mask would be a violation of those protocols."

 Jackson's eyes narrowed, his gaze lingering on the mask. "I've never met a woman with an agency that's so... secretive," he said, his voice laced with skepticism.

Lexi's expression remained neutral, her eyes leaving the question maniac man's face for a moment. "We have our reasons"

 Jackson took a step closer to Lexi, his eyes locked onto hers. "What kind of ..."His voice trailed off when his phone rang, it shrilled in the silence of the room giving Lexi a minute to step away from the imposing figure, He hesitated for a moment before striding towards the bedstand a bit distanced from the bed with a star lamp hovering on top, he picked his phone and straightened up, his eyes never leaving Lexi's face.

 "Jackson," he said, his voice low and curt still watching her every move, her expression changed when she heard his name, and his expression also changed which made Lexi wonder if he knew her, his eyes narrowing as he listened to the person on the other end of the line.

"I'll be right there," he said again, striking an odd resemblance to the guy on the rooftop.

 Flashbacks:::::

He chuckled and leaned beside her. "Just enjoying the view?" he said, gesturing to the stunning Los Angeles skyline.

Lexi snorted, "You're not from around here, are you?"

"New York," he replied, extending his hand. "Jackson Reed."

 Flashback ends:::::

Jackson ended the call and turned to Lexi. "I have to go," he said, his voice softening. "You should rest. You look exhausted."

Lexi nodded, a jolt of recognition coursing through her veins like a spark of electricity, She had seen those piercing eyes before, and had felt the weight of his intense stare.

Jackson, on the other hand, seemed oblivious to the connection. His eyes, though fixed on hers, held no glimmer of recognition. He smiled, his chiseled features softening, and Lexi's heart skipped a beat.

 "Yes sir" she mumbled, hoping he would leave as soon as possible, she didn't have the strength of all this, why did he have to say his name out loud....the guy at the bar? Damn!!!

 She clutched her mask that had been her constant companion for so long which now seemed woefully inadequate as Jackson turned to leave.

 "You can get anything you want"He stopped to look at her, Lexi forced a smile and let it drop when he went out, her eyes darted around the room, taking in the layout, the exits, the potential obstacles.

She noted the door, the only visible exit, and the window, which was likely locked but could be a viable option if needed. She spotted the dresser, the nightstand, the chair – all potential barriers or tools, depending on how she chose to use them.

 Lexi's heart was racing now, her senses on high alert. She knew she had to move quickly, to get out of there before Jackson returned which sounded stupid to her because he paid.
