Emily took a deep breath and leaned in, her voice barely above a whisper. "I was talking to Robin, and he mentioned that you were looking for a girl who had slipped out of the hotel without leaving a number or a name. I asked him to describe her, and pls do not punish him because... well, let's just say that I have my ways of getting information after sighting you in the news and all."
Jackson's eyes narrowed, his mind racing with the implications. "You've been snooping around, haven't you?and damn with robin?"
Emily shrugged, unrepentant. "Maybe a little. But I'm just trying to help, Jackson,we all are. You've been so stressed out lately, and I know that you need someone to talk to. Besides, I think I can help you find Lexi."
Jackson's expression hardened, and he looked at his sister with a mixture of anger and exasperation but said the opposite of his thought. "Emily, you're a pain in the butt, but I appreciate your concern. However, I need to handle this one on my own. Can I trust you to keep this to yourself?"
Emily nodded, her eyes sparkling with amusement at his words which was sure would be harsh if he wasn't tired right now. "Of course, bro. My lips are sealed. But just remember, I'm always here to help... whether you like it or not."
Jackson chuckled, shaking his head. "I'll keep that in mind, Emily, I think I've had enough of this conversation for now,I'm going to get some sleep."
Emily grinned, nodding in understanding. "Okay, bro. Get some rest. You need it."Jackson stood up, stretching his tall frame.
"I don't want to see you in the morning, Emily. Try not to get into too much trouble, okay?"
Emily laughed, waving goodbye as Jackson headed out of the living room. He made his way down a long, dark hallway, the only sound being the soft creak of the wooden floorboards beneath his feet. The walls were adorned with framed black and white photographs, casting a sophisticated and modern vibe.
As he approached his bedroom door, Jackson could feel a sense of relief wash over him. He pushed open the door, revealing a spacious and serene oasis. The room was dominated by a calming green and black theme, with plush green carpeting and black walls that seemed to absorb any noise or stress.
The bed, a massive king-sized affair, was dressed in crisp black sheets and a green velvet duvet, with a sprinkle of black and green pillows adding a touch of elegance. A sleek black dresser and nightstand sat against one wall, while a comfortable green armchair sat in a cozy reading nook, surrounded by floor-to-ceiling bookshelves filled with Jackson's favorite novels and business texts.
Jackson let out a deep sigh, feeling his tension melt away as he stepped into the peaceful sanctuary of his bedroom. He closed the door behind him, shutting out the world and its worries, and made his way to the bed, where he collapsed onto the soft, cool sheets, feeling the weight of his exhaustion finally catch up with him.
But there was still the strange thought lingering in his heart, trying to process the conversation he had with Emily, and the revelation that the girl he met at the hotel was named Lexi.
He walked over to his en-suite bathroom and turned on the faucet, letting the warm water fill the tub. He added some bath salts and essential oils, feeling the stress and tension melt away as he sank into the water.
As he lay there, he pulled out his phone and dialed Robin's number. Robin answered on the first ring, and Jackson could hear the sound of a keyboard clacking in the background.
"Robin, it's Jackson," he said, his voice firm but controlled. "I just wanted to touch base with you about the deal with Mackenzie's. I think we've got a good shot at closing it by the end of the week."
"Ah, great news, sir," Robin replied, his voice crisp. "I've been working on the paperwork, and everything looks good to go. I'll send over the final draft for your review later today."
Jackson nodded, even though Robin couldn't see him. "Sounds good. Robin, can I ask you something?"
"Of course, sir. What is it?"
"I just had a conversation with my sister, Emily. And she mentioned that you'd been talking to her about my movements. What's going on, Robin?"
There was a pause on the other end of the line, and for a moment, Jackson wondered if he had misinterpreted the situation. But then Robin spoke up, his voice cautious.
"I may have mentioned something to Madam, sir. But it was just a casual conversation."
Jackson's anger boiled over. "A casual conversation? You're my PA, Robin. You're not supposed to be having casual conversations with my sister about my personal life. That's a breach of confidentiality, and I won't tolerate it."
"I'm sorry, sir. It won't happen again."Robin Said his voice apologetic.
Jackson took a deep breath, trying to calm down. "See that it doesn't. What do you know about the girl lexi?what do you know about her?"
There was a pause, and for a moment, Jackson wondered if Robin was going to clam up on him. But then he spoke up, his voice measured.
"Not much, sir. Just that Madam mentioned her name in passing. I didn't think much of it at the time."
Jackson's eyes narrowed. "And you didn't think to mention it to me?"
Robin's voice was defensive when he responded. "I didn't think it was relevant, sir. But now that you mention it, I do recall Madam saying something about Lexi being connected to the girl you met at the hotel."
Jackson's mind was racing, What did that even mean? He thought back to the conversation he had with Emily, trying to piece together the fragments of information.
"Robin, I need you to dig up everything you can on Lexi," Jackson said, his voice firm.
