Chapter 8 - The Evergreens Pt:2

Bale had now left and Judas was glaring down June for a moment looking her up and down before rolling his eyes. He pushed himself off the counter and stood right in front of June now showing his full figure. Judas seemed to be that of a slightly disheveled man, his beard was ill-managed and his hair was all messy, hard to even possibly describe. He looked out of shape, but at the same time there seemed to be a certain strength about him. He wore a black suit, something you would not expect to see in this supposed fantasy world though it also looked like it had not been cleaned much.

Bale would look at him with an untrusting gaze and pointed over towards a room. "All the stuff you'll need is in there. Get the place cleaned up las." He spoke in a sort of passive aggressive tone as he went to sit back down, not even bothering to guide her around the place and he sat back down silently in the chair.

June would find herself glaring back at him for a moment about to open her mouth, but then she retreated back and quietly walked over to the room he pointed towards.

June would pick up the several cleaning supplies and would silently go around the building, doing every nook and cranny that she possibly could, although it was a rather mundane task, she found some sort of excitement and fulfillment in such work. She was doing it quite quickly unbeknownst to herself what was assisting her to do this so quickly besides her own skills, was that ability she had to the max [Operation Mother].

In a swift timeframe she had finished, and she stood in front of him with a straight face and her hands behind her back as if she was reporting to a superior in the army. "I have cleaned the entire facility sir."

His head would suddenly jolt towards her, he would have looked around the area he hadn't even realized. Everything was sparkly and shiny.. This place had never looked so good. At first there was a shock on his expression as he looked around, but then he would look right towards June with a smirk on his face.

"So, what's your name?" This time when the man spoke, it was not with some sort of aggression or distaste, it was simply and he showed an awe in his tone.

"June, June Whittaker." June would simply respond, taking a bit of an expression of relief seeing the change in his attitude.

"The room you're staying in is that small one upstairs, and hey I can't pay you now. But you get a nice outfit on the job, I just gotta clean it. Good night June."

And with that they would both retreat to their rooms within the now seemingly restored area as the establishment was on a step back towards being up right once more

About a month later…

They now stood in front of each other once more in the same places, but there was a noticeable difference about the place and the situation itself. The place had seemed to be fixed up beyond simple cleaning now, and there were actually people in it and chattering about as they ate and drank food. The man had seemed more refined and cleaned up out of that depressive state that he seemed to be in when June first met him. His hair was now combed backwards and his beard nicely trimmed, he even had a clean suit now!

On the other hand June would stand there, the uniform that she was supposed to wear having finally been cleaned, and it happened to be a maid outfit. She didn't despise it, it felt oddly fitting for herself she thought.

"Did you really have to make me wear this?" June would ask with a slight attitude in her voice betraying her actual thoughts

He would then point to the stream of customers coming in. "Hey it's working, and I can finally pay you now." He would get out a bag of coins and hand them over to her. "Really, thank you for all your help. I shouldn't have doubted you."

June would put her hands on her hips as a smirk encroached upon her and she puffed out her chest. "Oh really huh, well of course I am benevolent enough to help a guy like you." She would say with a slightly jocular tone.

His face would slightly droop as he gave her an eyeroll. "Don't make me put you back outside June."

She would quickly bow straight down. "Yes sir."

Judas would slightly chuckle but then he stopped and did a small gasp as a realization came. "Oh right, I forgot I had something to give you." He would say while rustling through the many papers that were arranged within his desk June simply tilted her head curiously at him. He suddenly picked up a paper and held it up "Aha! Got it. So I remember you told me how you might want to be an adventurer, get stronger and get to your husband or whatever. Well I found this on the streets." He would hand her the paper over the counter which she would grab.

She flipped the paper over to herself and would slowly begin to read it as a wowed expression slowly came onto her face as her mouth opened widely. From what she had just read, this was a paper detailing the date of an adventurer ranking and allowance test. When she looked up at him he just had his arms crossed and a nice smile decorated on him which matched hers, but her face would change to a more concerned look. "How are you gonna keep up with all the work while I'm away?"

His face would falter for only a moment before bolstering itself once more. "Well I, I'll manage June. Don't worry. We still aren't that big yet. You'll just get a bunch of work when you get back lass." He would say patting her shoulder. "Now then you should use that money for some gear. Anyways, don't slack off while you're still here." He would say with a bit of laughter from him. June would still be concerned, but she wasn't even able to talk back to him as he walked off.
