Chapter 3 - The Real Beginning

The eyes of June would remain focused onto the horde of these sickly monsters that were all in front of her, she had no idea how she could actually see a way for her to win, yet at the same time she did not see a way to simply run away. The two girls on the ground seemed to be waking up from their sudden blunt force injuries. June would pick the two of them up and swiftly took them away from the room putting them down outside as the creatures began advancing.

"Tell everyone else in here about these things, if you can get anyone to help do that as well hurry!"

She would usher the two of them with a certain urgency that made them seem to quickly snap out of their dazes and come up rather quickly running away from the location, June looked back at the crowd of creatures that were chasing after her at full speed now that she was alone and recognized that in this new world she had naturally enhanced physical prowess, she could think of some way to deal with this. She would look into her mind remembering things from a show that she had watched before, maybe that would work here.

Suddenly she would utilize her ability [Maiden's Arsenal] and started summoning kitchen knives, these kitchen knives would spawn within her hands and then be tossed into the crowd of charging creatures as she ran backwards from them being relative, or somewhat faster than these creatures able to keep pace with them. She had attempted to throw a ton of knives at once, but because she did not have the skill they ended up just clattering together and fell to the floor and cut her finger.

"Owwch! Well, it makes sense why they trained so much.."

And so instead she threw the knives individually one by one going through the heads of each of the creatures to effectively and easily take them down, some of them seemed to keep going despite the knives lodged into them which was rather freaky and she didn't know what to do about this. With her taking so long to defeat them, some of them tried a different attack strategy as they grabbed onto some of the sickly sludge that dripped from their bodies and tossed it towards her, seeing this she recoiled back, she wanted to defend herself but how! And as a seeming reaction to her own thoughts her ability activated in response [Maiden's Arsenal] summoned pans in front of her that caught the sludge and smacked it back towards the creatures. That's how she remembered the other part of the ability, she could control these things as well.

She would make all the pans fling themselves towards the creatures in the distance aiming for their heads, this caused some to tip over effectively creating a domino effect as they all fell against the ground in the corridor. Her hand then raised in the air as she rampantly flicked it around in different directions, and in coordination with her movements the knives that were already lodged inside of the creatures would begin to ravage the bodies of her enemies completely eviscerating the large group of about 100 in a seemingly mere instance. After she had slashed them up so much they melted into simple green sludge and appeared to lose their sentience. There was a sigh of relief as the mothers instinct breakthrough disappeared and became locked once more. Just as she had thought she had vanquished them her system would pop up.

"Warning, Warning. Enemy far above your level is coming. Advance with caution."

"How grand, I just hope everyone else escaped already."

She took a deep breath in and cleared her mind. Would she fight this one too? What would be the point in that? There was not much sense in the thought, but if she was here and capable of stopping a problem she would simply wish to do it. Perhaps she reasons this insanity by simply saying she would do it so that nobody else would have to do it. Begrudgingly to her internal senses that contradicted others and her way of thought for her to run away instead of going forward, she still did. She would make steps forward as a shivering cold could be felt despite it still being bright and sunny outside, a mucky nasty smell would be thick in the air like that of mucus and dirt. She would step to the end of the corridor and look through the room that they had initially come through, now she would see the behemoth that would be in the way.

The creature appeared to be 10 times or maybe more than that of the previous things she had just fought. It even towered over the 2 story building that they were in, able to see him through a crack within the building as she would step outside to now stand about infront of this behemoth. The other creatures could be denoted as infected, but this was far beyond them, the prime of them. The prime infected saw her and threw a punch directly towards her aiming to crush her as the creature let out a roar of power that would inflict a chill to all who heard it. June would leap into the air using her newfound power within her body to meet the attack halfway between her original place and the ground and the overbearing height of the titan.

She would have summoned many kitchen appliances this time in an attempt to stop him, if his punch landed not only would it hurt her but it would likely damage the building to an extreme degree! She summoned multiple fridges and cabinets, dishwashers, and etc. They all would have addressed the creature's attack, but none of them actually did anything. Her power was still too weak to even be a perceived threat to something like this. Not only was this creature seemingly 10s of times stronger than those other creatures, despite its size, it was also 10s of times faster as well. She would have instantly been smashed into the ground. Although she did not really do anything to stop the creature's attack, the creature instinctively shifted its attack to be more directed towards June effectively making the hospital take a less direct hit, only ruptured by shockwaves. June would have bounced off of the ground after smashing into it and right back into the hospital and smacked against a wall with her blood splattering against it. Her body would have started sliding down and slumped against the wall. She now lay on the ground with every piece of her body screaming out in pain. Was she dying? Maybe she was already dead? She came here just to die so soon. She knew that life could be cruel, but this was just too much. She weakly moved her hand out hoping to grab onto something, to get up again. Despite accepting death, it is not something she yearned for, especially not now. She did not want to live a life where there was still unfinished business, where she did not fulfill every promise. A life like that was no life at all. And to her prayers of such a thing, someone came. Her hand would be taken.

She would be picked up and slowly she would look upwards slowly to see who it was, it was none other than that of the man Dr. Bale. He would seem to have a serious expression denoted upon his countenance, there was some sort of anger in his eyes, yet not completely directed towards her, and not just that one with a focus. He picked her up as a green aura would radiate from his hand as it would seem she would be coated entirely in this green aura as her body was reconstructing itself, heck she was feeling even better than before.

"Ms June.." He started to speak, but this time his voice was different, far more firm and serious than it was before even though he had always seemed to sound such a way there was some sort of aura of experience in a situation like this, which would not be something she doubted. "You should have gotten out of here with everyone else, fighting this thing by yourself was reckless! But- I suppose I can't get truly mad at such a noble act. Just never do this again. Now then, let us defeat this thing."

She would have looked at him confused by what he just said. "But you said-" he would stop her. "By yourself, besides, I have increased your statistics temporarily, now fight while you have it. From that short burst I just gave you, it should last about a minute. More than enough. Now then, work with me."

Dr Bale seemed to almost command her, but of course she didn't mind it. She was the less experienced one in this tense situation. And so she would have run right next to Dr. Bale as they went right towards the Prime infected. "Jump right when he punches down at us, and then jump onto its arm." For a second she would look at him somewhat crazy, but at the same time something about him made her be confident in his words. When the fist of the creature came hurtling down towards them with its immense force and power she jumped to the right of it as Dr. Bale jumped to the left of it. Quickly after it landed onto the ground they both jumped onto the hand. Swiftly they started to run up the arm as it was retracting it.

"This is a good distance I presume, now Ms June, you must toss me I need to get to its head." She would swiftly respond, slightly confused, but at the same time remaining unquestioning. "Roger!" She would see the doctor suddenly run in front of her and then jump backwards feet first right towards her though slightly above. She raised her arms up to catch them as they went slightly back like a slingshot before launching him off towards the head of the creature. The doctor would land right onto the creature's eyeball and in his erected hand was a scalpel which pierced right into the center of it, and with his power it caused it to completely explode. Suddenly he would jump through the head of the creature cutting through bits in the way with seemingly no effort before stabbing the scalpel into its head

"[Endless Splicing.]"

Suddenly the brain of the creature would be decorated in lines, and the lines around the brain would then encroach upon the body and everywhere else. Doctor Bale quickly jumped out of its head and jumped down to June grabbing her and jumping away from the creature down towards the ground. After they touched the grounds, from the black lines started to ooze a green substance.. That being the creature's blood. The lines had been cuts that eviscerated it completely.

"I told you we wouldn't need a minute, it only took us 15 seconds." Bale said as he would annoyingly begin to wipe himself of the creature's residue. He seemed to now be calm and quite reserved once more.

On the other hand June had a look of shock across her face, he did that.. In 15 seconds?! She supposed this is what a higher ranked person in this world looked like. That only makes her hold her suspense as to what others could be like considering he was only a doctor. She would bow downwards towards him and quickly speak in appreciation with it showing in her tone. "Thank you, thank you so much! You really saved me back there."

The man would sigh and use his hand to bring her head back upwards and take the helmet she was wearing off of her head. "This is quite literally my job Ms June, no need for the grandiose praise though appreciated. Well, we've got to get moving now to a new location. I've got news from our higher ups that we can push further now anyways. Follow me madam."

Just as she was about to go and follow him onto the next location something happened, time around her seemed to slow down and the world around darkened for a moment, her bright blue system screen popped up in front of her once more and with a message as confetti popped out of it. "Congratulations on completing the quest [Slay the Flankers], this was a secret objective on the [End the Skirmish] mission giving you additional rewards! But you should follow him first before looking into that.

Everything returns to normal as she quickly hurries behind him, now with a strange wonder onto what exactly it could have been that she just received.

Elsewhere…

Back in the normal world, George the husband of June would come back to devastation. He would see his two kids just hanging around the washing machine which confused him, but he could only see the saddened look on both of the kids faces, and as soon as they saw him they went over and hugged his legs. George looked down, concerned as he touched the heads of Marie and Benthony and robbed them softly as they simply stayed there for some time. George waited a moment for them to seemingly calm down to talk to them as he crouched to her level. His concern would only grow when realization struck him, there was no smell of a nice meal being made for him downstairs, the wife that would spring up to him when he entered the door. None of that.

"Kids, what happened. Where is your mother?"

Marie and Benthony would quickly speak in tandem. "M-mama was going to clean my bear in the washing machine then.." "Then Mama disappeared in a flash of light just like that!"

George sat there silently hearing the answer from his two children, at first he would think that this was one of the stories he heard that kids tell to cope with situations or something like that. Or at least that's what he wanted to think. Making a lie like this wouldn't make much sense even for them, and they were pretty smart kids, he thought. Something that he doesn't know is going on. If he told the police or really anyone he would just be seen as a crazy cuckoo guy. His hands would clenched into fists, not out of anger, but of a sadder emotion. He as a father could not show such weakness in a time where strength was required. Taking a stand up from where he was he grabbed onto both of his kids hands and directed them to their bedrooms and put them in the bed.

"Kids, just go to sleep please. Don't cause any trouble. I don't want anything to happen to either of you as well."

And without putting up much of a fight in fear of something else happening, and not wanting to upset their dad even more than he visibly was. George would wander over to his bedroom, or rather his and June's. He took a seat on the bed, he raised his hands to his face for a moment simply sitting there. There was nothing else but silence in his mind and grief in his heart. After some minutes though he sat up with his thoughts of nothingness becoming null, he shouldn't just sit around doing nothing. He should do what she would do, no he should do what was right to do. Thinking back on a conversation he had at work before one of his co-workers, John told him about how you could find anything on the internet. And thus the search would begin. He sat down on his chair in front of a desk and would start searching. He searched up different things about disappearances, such as disappearing in a dishwasher which was not fruitful. Although when he searched up disappearances on today's date with him finding himself shocked. There was an article denoting that about one person from every other state had mysteriously disappeared. Scrolling through the article and down towards the comment section there was an intriguing one

"For any of those who know missing people, please message this email."

Strange, the person was anonymous and so was their email, but he didn't care if this was some kind of joke or not. He wanted to try whatever method he could, he slouched over to the bed and flopped down on it not even putting the effort or energy into getting under the covers with his sulking self feeling too tired to do even that, this had been the quickest he had ever fallen asleep.

Upon waking from his slumber he rolled right out of bed and swiftly got up to his computer in desperation hoping that he got a reply checking his email, and to his delight, something that would flicker some sort of hope into him was there. "Come to Lorimer Park, 5:00 PM"

He would quickly pick up his phone calling to his job. Having his buddy John pick up the phone. "Uh hey what's up George." George would swiftly reply. "My wife is gone, I'm going to try and find her. Tell them I won't be coming today. "Wait what?!"

The line cut off as he hung up quickly and looked over to the clock, he woke up in time to take the kids off to school luckily because of the sleep schedule drilled into him by his wife. He would stumble out into the halls having not even taken his clothes off from last night and peeked into his kids room.

"Hey kiddos its time to wake up." He was trying to speak normally, but there was an odd creaky tone in his voice that pushed through his usual more upbeat tone when talking to his kids, he just couldn't do it.

Benthony and Marie were both awake, perhaps they had barely even slept at all. Benthony would look over to their father with a sort of pleading look on his face. "Dad, can we stay home with you?" Marie would have tugged on Benthony's arm. "Brother, we don't want to bother dad even more." Marie wanted to try and be as caring as she could now, she could only imagine upsetting him if they fought again.

George raised a hand up into the air having them both stop talking. "Kids, you guys stay home today, we have somewhere to go later alright.

Marie and Benthony would both look at each other in utter confusion and curiosity as to where they were going, but one thought that crossed both of their minds and excited them was the fact that it was likely the fact that they were going to find mom.

When the time finally came, George was swift to his car with the kids in tow as they drove off and hit the gas driving off to the park and making haste among traffic skidding to a halt only at the parking spot around the park. He would get out of the car with his kids and wander the park looking for who it was that they were supposed to meet. And then he found them, he could just tell. They stood there in an all brown trench coat with glasses and a tophat on. He would always wonder why secret agent people wore such obvious clothing, or was that only in the movies? Well it did make most sense here because he has no idea what they look like. Ridding of those pesky thoughts he hastily walked with his kids over towards the figure.

Marie stood behind Benthony with her hands holding onto his back only peeking over her brother's shoulder, she was somewhat scared of the mysterious stranger and also held onto her dads leg. Benthony looked back at his sister giving a reassuring look and then upwards at the stranger with a somewhat serious look, as much as a kid could give with his fists to his hips.

"Are you.. George Whitaker?" The voice would speak as they raised their sunglasses. The voice coming out of it was apparently masculine with a refined speaking tone and voice. It matched the kind of person he seemed to be, which was utterly a professional."

George would slowly nod his head. "Yeah, that's me."
