Chapter 4 - Being A Lady Is Hard

After a while, the guard informed the arrival of the Vampire King and everyone turned their attention from Adonis to the door. The room went silent as the guests waited for the Vampire King to enter. she, on the other hand, looked down quickly and rubbed her hands together nervously as she felt the knots in my stomach return.

The princess wanted to look up, but she was afraid.

What if she didn't like what she saw? Would he have pale skin, and sharp fangs and even wings or claws?

'Don't be ridiculous' she mused and decided to take a look. After all, there is no harm in doing so.

Slowly, she glanced at the door as her heart hammered inside her chest and almost gasped when the mighty Vampire King entered.

Wait!

This was the man from earlier with the red eyes. He couldn't be the Vampire King, could he? But then it suddenly hit Adonis. Vampires have red eyes!

The guest stared at him surprised as well and began to whisper hysterically into each other's ears. They must have been expecting someone with sharp fangs to enter the room and not some tall, elegant looking King.

He indeed is the mighty king.

Not the least bit bothered by the whispers and stares, he walked gracefully towards the King of Grandvest, taking each step with confidence.

Adonis's jaw dropped, So, did the guests. No one bowed slightly to the King. This man was truly fearless and being disrespectful towards her father. She already got a bad feeling about him. Not because she thought her father deserved any kind of respect, but because he was so daring with his actions already.

He must have noticed people's reaction; it was so obvious, but the man didn't seem to care. The King of Grandvest on the other hand, didn't react. He just gestured towards her.

As she saw him turn to her, Adonis looked down quickly, then heard the clicking sound of his footsteps as he neared before sitting on the other end of the table facing her.

The Vampire didn't utter a word. Wasn't he supposed to greet her or at least tell her his name? Adonis thought as her father didn't even bother telling her his name. although Adonis didn't even give him the chance to either. She had fought and cried the day that her father told her he was marrying her off to the Vampire King, but her father was stubborn and had already made up his mind.

"Today, I gather us to celebrate Princess Adonis's wedding to the King of Domara," King Theodore Corvus spoke once everyone was seated. He raised his golden wine cup, "Let the ceremony begin, and enjoy yourselves."

People clapped while dancers and musicians walked in to entertain the guests. People seemed to enjoy themselves. And Adonis of couldn't even see the dancers performing as she was supposed to keep her gaze down, because that's what a lady should do.

"Being a lady is hard." Her sister always says that and today, Adonis realized Elara is indeed right.

"Don't you like the music?" the Vampire King finally asked, breaking the awkward silence. Adonis peeked through her long lashes, but once she gazed into his red eyes, it was hard to look away. They were captivating.

"I do, My King," she softly replied.

"What do you have in store for the tea ceremony?"

Yes, the tea ceremony! That is the traditional part of the royal wedding where the bride has to show one of her talents to entertain the guests and impress the groom.

But Adonis definitely doesn't want to impress someone. Especially not the Vampire King.

"It is a surprise, Your Highness," Adonis replied, sending him a stage smile.

Soon it was time for the tea ceremony. And Adonis was sitting in a chair at the middle of the room, everyone's attention directed at her. The guest would sit and enjoy their tea while Adonis would have to entertain them.

Suddenly, she began sweating profusely, turning around, she saw her twin sister Elara who was sitting beside their grandmother smiling at her.

Knowing her sister, Adonis knew Elara was telling her to be calm and take it easy.

"Be yourself." Adonis could hear her sister's words in her ears although she can not see her face as Elara always have a veil on covering her face. Is it a gift or what can she call it, because apparently they can telecommunicate with one another even without speaking lips to lips.

Then she took up her flute before lightly putting it on to her lips and started playing. Soon her nervousness disappeared, Adonis loved playing the flute and loved the sound of it. closing her eyes, she let the sound take her far away, to a peaceful place. Now and then she would hear some people praising her haze, and they applauded when she was done.

Opening her eyes, she found him staring directly at her. The Vampire king wasn't applauding, but there was a hint of a smile on his face.

Now it was time for the gift exchange. The gift exchange began and soon end, then it was time for her to go to her new home. The knot in her stomach returned with such intensity that she felt like throwing up.

Queen Catrina hurried to her daughter and hugged her tight. While the King converse with the Vampire King. Her mother took her hands in hers, "Everything will be fine," the Queen said, "Just remember what I told you."

Then, Princess Elara and Crown Prince Aureus also came forward to bit good bye to their sister. "Brother Aureus," Adonis hugged her brother immediately he came closer. The prince exhaled, "Always behave the way you are. Don't ever change." Where her brother words to her.

Tears welled up, angry, Adonis's fist clenched, and a sob escaped her throat. "I will, brother, I will." She murmured between her sobs.

And now it was Princess Elara's turn, and the prince stepped aside so his sisters could say their goodbyes. "You are leaving me here to be grandmother's punching back aren't you," Princess Elara smiled although her veiled covered her face.

"Don't change yourself for anyone. Just call me if he upsets you and I shall appear to handle that Vampire."
