Chapter 2 - Gamble

As soon as they sat down, Avery asked her directly with a serious face, "Is Asher coming here with a woman?"

Myra Gu pursed her lips when she heard the question. She felt her heart clenching as she did not know how to answer.

She nodded her head and then shook her head.

Avery frowned, "What do you mean by that? Is he coming or not?"

"I don't know either. All I know is that there is an appointment at this time. I am not sure if he will come or not." After saying that, her head turned towards the entrance of the hotel before pursing her lips again and muttered softly, "I hope he won't come."

Avery's brows couldn't loosen at her best friend's heart-wrenching voice. She asked in a low voice as she controlled her anger, "Who is she?"

Myra Gu shook her head again, "I don't know either. We should see her now."

Avery blinked her eyes. She asked in doubt, "Did you misunderstand him? Didn't you say that he loved you very much? You even left your family for his sake. Are you sure there is another woman?"

Myra Gu felt frustrated when she heard her friend's questions. Those were the questions that haunted her the whole night too.

"I am here to know the answers to those questions too. I am not sure if what I saw from him before was love or not. I want to confirm his feelings for me today." She replied with determination.

No matter the result, she needed an answer. He loves her or not? A simple and straight answer.

Avery was confused. She tilted her head sideways, "So, you are saying that if he comes here today, he doesn't love you and if he doesn't, then he loves you?"

Myra Gu felt like she was playing a game with her life when she heard her friend's words.

In a way, she was really playing with her life. She was gambling with her love on the table. She wanted to know if she won or lost in this game. If she wins, then all is well.

But if she lost, she would become a joke in front of all the sacrifices she had made for her marriage.

Without telling him, she had sacrificed many things, including her family, career, and many others. Just because she didn't want him to feel guilty, she did not tell him many of these things.

She clenched her fist and nodded her head as a reply to her friend's question.

Avery did not know how to reply. She prayed in her heart that Asher wouldn't come.

She smiled and patted the back of Myra Gu's hand to encourage her, "Let's eat first."

Myra Gu nodded her head.

While they were eating, Avery hesitated as she spoke softly, "Umm, how about we contact your second brother?"

Myra Gu stopped chewing as she froze on her spot. She raised her eyes and looked back at her friend in shock. "Why did you suddenly think of him?"

Since the time she got married three years ago, she has not been in contact with any of her family members, including her second brother.

Even when she missed them she did not speak a single word about them with her new family or with her friends.

Hence, when she heard the name of her brother after a long time, she was stunned and her eyes started to water.

"Umm, actually he called me recently to find out about you. He said that he missed you and wanted to call you, but you had blocked his number on your phone. He also said that it was your parents and your elder brother that stopped you from marrying the person you love, and it was not him. So he wanted to ask you why you blocked him along with the others."

Myra Gu chuckled when she heard her words. She could almost imagine how her brother would have pouted when he said those words like a little kid. After being away for three years, she had expected him to be a little more mature than before, but it looked like he was still the same and had not changed a single bit.

Just as she was about to reply, her friend patted her once again and gestured for her to look at the entrance of the hotel.

She was scared. From the way her friend just tapped her, she could already guess that her husband was there.

She lost. She doesn't have to look to know that she has lost this gamble.

She doesn't want to look anymore, but she has no other choice but to face her reality.

She turned her head slowly - almost like a robot.

As expected, she saw her husband, Asher, along with a woman she was unfamiliar with.

Myra Gu narrowed her eyes as she scrutinized this woman. She was beautiful. That is the way to simply describe her.

She knew how to dress up. She donned a blue A-line dress accentuating her figure as she gracefully walked along with Asher.

Looking at them standing side by side, anyone would think they were a good match.

The woman looked at him with a smile and a small tint of blush crept up her fair cheeks. Anyone would think the couple were flirting once they looked at her blissful expression.

Myra Gu's grip on her fork tightened as she saw this scene with her own eyes.

Avery saw her expression and felt worried about her friend, "Myra."

Myra Gu looked at her and gave a faint smile that looked worse than crying.

Avery did not like this. Even though she was not a big fan of Asher, she took a deep breath and said a couple of words for him, "Maybe it's not what we think. Maybe she is just his friend?"

Myra Gu took a deep breath. Yes, she shouldn't doubt her husband just based on the fact that he met a woman, right?

He is a successful businessperson who deals with many partners, many of whom would be successful businesswomen. If she were to doubt him every time he meets one of them, there is no way she would have a good marriage.

She should at least give him the benefit of the doubt.

She looked at Avery and nodded, "I understand. Let's observe them a little more, and we will find out if there is anything between them or not."

Avery nodded. In her heart, she prayed that there was really nothing between Asher Han and that woman who looked like a vixen.

It was not that she liked Asher to be with Myra Gu. She never had a good impression of him.

After all, for his sake, Myra Gu not only left her family, but after marriage, her life was miserable with her in-laws. If she were to say that she was being treated as a servant, it would mean she was giving her in-laws face.

She really wanted to take Myra Gu away from the Han household as soon as possible, but Myra Gu could see nothing but her husband, whom she loved very much. She always said that as long as her husband loved her, she wouldn't mind anything else.

But when she saw the same husband, whom her friend loved so much, with another woman, she wanted to rush up to him and punch him in the face. But she knew to stay rational in the situation.

If he was really cheating on Myra Gu, she knew how heartbroken her friend would be.

No matter how much she hated him, she couldn't see her best friend heartbroken. Hence, Avery hoped that the scumbag was being faithful to his wife.

On the other hand, Asher and Lyla An walked towards the table they had reserved with a waiter leading them.

As they had planned earlier, the table at which the 'couple' sat was near Myra Gu and Avery's table, from where they could hear everything while the other party wouldn't be able to see them clearly.

The 'couple' ordered the food, and they talked about a couple of casual things until the food arrived.

While eating, Lyla An looked at him and asked, "I heard that you are married?"

"Yes," Asher's reply was concise.

Lyla An's pupils trembled when she heard this reply. But she continued asking, "I heard that the woman resembled me so much?"

"..." Myra Gu could understand what words the woman had just used, but she heard them combined, she did not understand.

Asher did not reply as he calmly ate his food.

"Asher, this is not fair to that woman. No matter what, a marriage should be based on love for each other. If you were with her just because she resembled me, then she is too poor. Can't you think about her feelings when you are doing this?" Lyla An spoke seriously.
