Chapter 6 - Changed wife and the Helpless husband 1

When she went to bed, she did not care about switching on the light. So the room was dark.

When Asher entered, he switched the light on and Myra felt uncomfortable in her eyes at the sudden attack of light.

"Are you asleep?" Asher asked her in a soft voice.

Myra had her eyes closed as she asked back, "What is it?"

"Auntie Huang said you are tired. What happened?"

"Nothing. I am just tired. That's all. If you don't have anything to say, can you please switch off the lights?" She couldn't get used to the lights yet, as she asked him.

Asher frowned. He felt that she was somehow different, but he couldn't point it out.

"Well, my mother is still here," Even though he wanted to let her sleep, he had no choice but to speak about the important matter.

"I know. I asked Auntie Huang to prepare dinner for you both, didn't I?" Myra placed her hand over her forehead so that the light wouldn't fall on her eyes anymore.

"That's not what I meant," Asher spoke in helplessness. He did not care about that dinner right now.

As soon as he entered the house, he was attacked by numerous complaints from his mother against his wife. He did not understand what was going on as he was bombarded by his mother. He did not even get a chance to take a breath before he heard weird complaints from her.

He felt that his mother was exaggerating things like she did every time and did not care, but now she stubbornly sat in her place without moving.

He had no choice but to deal with this matter first, as he had some of his work left to do.

He wanted his wife to deal with this matter immediately, but she was resting, and now he was at a loss about what to do.

"Then what do you mean?" Myra asked back. She still had her eyes closed and this confused Asher.

"She sounded angry," He did not ask her anything but just stated what he saw.

"Oh," Myra's response was still lukewarm.

Asher did not understand what was going on at all. Whenever his mother was angry, his wife would always try to please her so that the house would remain peaceful and stable, but this time, she was acting weird.

He did not know how to handle such a Myra at all.

"Did something happen today? You look too tired."

"Yeah."

"What happened? Do you want to talk about it?"

"No."

"Okay, take a rest then." Asher did not compel her to speak either.

There was no response from Myra this time.

Asher did not move from his spot nor did he switch the light off.

He was looking intently at his wife as if he was studying her face.

Despite closing her eyes, she felt his eyes on her and she felt uncomfortable.

She couldn't help but open her eyes and look at him, "Do you need anything from me?"

"I understand that you need to rest but…" Asher did not finish his sentence as he did not know how to.

Myra looked at him and waited for his next words, but he did not speak for a long time, and she had no choice but to ask him, "But? Can you speak faster?"

Asher took a deep breath, "Can you say a couple of good words to my mom, so she goes back to the old home? She seemed like she wouldn't move until we deal with this matter. I don't know what to tell her either."

This time Myra was the one not speaking as she looked at his face intently. She was looking at him as if she was reading his thoughts clearly through his eyes.

But only she knew how disappointed she was as she suddenly seemed to realize something she had not for all these years.

The equation between her, him, and his family has always been like this, right?

If he really loved her, he wouldn't have let her handle his family every time like that, right?

It is not like she wanted him to fight against his family for her sake. But he could at least speak a word for her in front of them from time to time, right?

But now that she thought about it, it had never happened. Not once.

For his sake, she fought against her family, cut ties with them and came to him, but for her sake, what exactly had he done?

When she thought of it like that, she couldn't help but feel even more disappointed.

Not in him, but in herself.

Just how deep was her love that she had to deal with everything to such an extent?

She doesn't want it anymore.

Not the love nor the responsibilities that come with it.

She took a deep sigh as she said in a calm voice, "Asher, please deal with your mother yourself. I don't want to patronize her anymore. As I said, I am very tired and all I want to do is to rest. If she doesn't want to go home, then just let her sleep here.

"If you want to say anything to me, just wait until tomorrow morning. Now please switch the lights off and leave. I can't talk to you anymore."

After saying those words, she turned away from him and closed her eyes to sleep.

Asher stood stunned at the door as he looked at her back. He did not understand what had just happened at all.

Did his wife just snap at him and even turn her back on him? This was the first time she had ever done that. And he still couldn't believe it.

Now he also had to deal with his mother all by himself?

Just the thought of her stubborn appearance from earlier gave him a huge headache.

Suddenly he heard his wife snap at him again, "Didn't you hear what I just said? Switch off the lights, will you?"
