Asher frowned, "You what? What more do you have to say? Say everything at once, so we can talk about them."
Only now did he realize that his wife had many complaints in her heart. Just because she had been calm and composed all the time, he thought that she was happy with him. Looks like she hid many grievances in her heart.
Myra shook her head, "Sorry for my outburst. I don't want our ending to be ugly either. I wanted a clean break. We are both mature adults, and we can behave that way when we break up as well."
"Do you think this is a mature way to handle a problem between a married couple? If we are really mature, then we would have a conversation and clear up all the grievances and misunderstandings instead of thinking about divorce just because of some silly issues." Asher looked at her as he spoke those words in his cool and clear voice.
Myra felt like she was attending a lecture when she heard how stable his voice sounded. There were no fluctuations in his voice at all. It was as if this entire conversation was because she was behaving like a child, and he was an elder who was trying to teach the child how to behave.
It was like everything was her fault, to begin with.
It was like she was making everything into a mountain out of a molehill.
She did not like the way he was reacting to this at all.
A few tears slipped out of her eyes, but she blinked them away.
She wanted to burst out at him, but she took a few deep breaths to calm herself.
"To have a mature conversation, the prerequisite is to have the other party willing to give time to talk. Today, I called you. But you weren't ready to give me the time.
"I don't know if you understood me after all these years at all, but usually, I don't give anyone second chances.
"I gave our relationship a last chance during that phone call, but you lost that chance at that time. So, stop projecting me as a childish woman who did not know how to deal with a relationship. If you want to be the mature one, then for a change, try understanding my point of view. After all these years of marriage, what have I gained? Think carefully and 'understand'.
"Anyway, as I said, I decided to get a divorce. This is not for negotiation. I am just informing you of my decision. You can take it however you want. If you have any terms for our divorce agreement, please notify me by tomorrow morning. I will get my lawyer by then. For now, good night."
Didn't he tell her to understand his point of view? So, she told him to understand her point of view instead. The moment he called her childish, her decisions impulsive, and her reasons trivial, she lost all her hope in him. A person who thinks from another's point of view would never give out such remarks.
After making her point, she turned around to leave, but only then did she realize that her arm was still in his grip.
She grimaced at him, "Now will you leave my hand, please?"
Asher looked at his hand and realized his grip on her arm was tight. He immediately retracted it, "Sorry."
When he saw her leaving, he caught her again.
Myra sighed and looked at him, "Asher, no matter what, I think we both need some time to cool off. Let's not have a conversation right now, alright? Let's talk properly tomorrow. If you do not have time, no problem. Let your lawyer talk to mine. Anyway, for today, I really really really want to sleep now."
Asher felt bad when he saw how she was pleading with him. From the moment he came home, he understood that she was tired. Even if he wanted to talk, he couldn't see her like that anymore either. So, he nodded and released her hand once again, "Good night. Let's talk tomorrow."
Even though her words clearly said that he would not talk because he would once again be busy and hence he could just get his lawyer to do the talking, he wouldn't talk back that moment.
Instead of words, he always preferred actions. He would just stay the next day and talk directly instead of making any promises today.
After releasing her, he said again, "Go back to our room. Don't worry, I will stay in the guest room for today."
Myra thought for a second before nodding. No matter what, she knew that he wouldn't break his word. Since he said he would stay in another room, he would stay there.
So she went back into their room and closed the door on his face.
Asher sighed, but he knew that he had another task for now. He had to deal with his mother.
When he went downstairs, he saw her sitting on the sofa huffing and puffing in anger. She was even muttering a few words from time to time about how rude Myra was.
Once she saw him coming near her, she immediately stopped her words and smiled at him, "Son, you look so tired. Didn't your wife serve you well? I knew it. She was never a good wife to begin with. Did she show you the same attitude as she did to me?"
"Mother, what are you talking about? When was she ever a bad wife? Just how prejudiced are you towards her that she had no choice but to speak back to you?" Asher frowned as he spoke.
"What are you talking about, son? Am I that type of person in your eyes? When you brought that girl who was without a family, I accepted her as my daughter-in-law just for your sake, didn't I? Now I can't even say a word about her? What medicine did she feed you that my good boy started to talk against me now, huh?" Mother Han spoke dramatically as she held her forehead.
