Chapter 7 - Changed wife and the Helpless husband 2

Suddenly he heard his wife snap at him again, "Didn't you hear what I just said? Switch off the lights, will you?"

"..."

Asher blinked his eyes as he couldn't recover from her voice. Like a doll in a daze, he uttered, "Huh?"

Myra sighed and got up from bed.

From the thought that she was staying in the same room as Asher, her thoughts kept on wandering everywhere, and she was sure she wouldn't be able to sleep.

Now that he wasn't even switching the light off, she lost her will to sleep in that room.

Asher saw her walking towards him and suddenly felt a little scared. He took a step back as if she was about to hit him in the face.

Myra did not care about his reaction as she took her phone with her and left the room.

Asher saw her walking past him and his eyes suddenly lit up, "Are you going to talk to Mother?"

Myra stopped and turned around to face him, "Didn't I tell you to deal with your mother yourself? Why are you expecting me to talk to her just because she is stubborn? If she wants to be stubborn, then she can be stubborn all she wants with her own children. What is she doing with me?"

"Aren't you also her child now?" Asher asked her.

"I am her child? Asher, place your hand over your heart and speak honestly. When had she ever treated me as her child?" Myra sneered.

Asher opened his lips but no words came out.

Myra did not wait for his words as she continued, "Let alone her child, had she ever treated me as her family?

"I humbled myself down all these years because I treated her as my own mother. I hoped that one day she would start understanding me and accept me as her family, but did she? She didn't even want to try.

"A relationship would work only if both parties tried to make it work. Not just one person." Myra did not know if she was talking about her relationship with her mother-in-law or her husband when she said those words, but her eyes moistened when she spoke.

Asher was stunned when he saw the tears in her eyes. He called out to her softly, "Myra."

He stretched his hand to hold hers, but before he could do so, she avoided him. She took a step away from him as she said in a tired voice, "Now, I am exhausted. I can't do this anymore."

Asher blinked his eyes. He understood that she was tired and wanted to sleep, but when he saw her expression, he had a feeling that she wasn't speaking about that. She had another meaning behind her words.

For some reason, he felt he didn't want to know that reason. Not now nor ever in the future.

He softly spoke, "Then go back to sleep. I will switch off the light. I will take care of Mother as well."

Myra chuckled when she heard his words, "Of course you will. It is not like you have another choice. Anyway, I realized that I have a choice, and I am going to choose now."

Asher had a bad feeling about her words, but he still had to ask, "What do you mean?"

Myra took a deep breath. She did not speak immediately. Even though she had already decided, she couldn't bring herself to speak out loud.

But she also knew that she had no other choice.

So, she strengthened her will and steeled her heart as she looked at her husband in his eyes and declared, "I want a divorce."

"What are you talking about?" Asher was shocked.

"I said, I want a divorce," Myra repeated herself. She knew that he wouldn't accept that she was the one to take the initiative about the divorce. But no matter how he reacted, she wouldn't back down anymore.

"Myra. Have you gone crazy? Just because you are tired, can you casually bring such a word up? If you are tired, go to sleep. It is not like I am forcing you to deal with Mother now, right? Why are you acting impulsively like a child? You shouldn't bring up such topics casually. Let's forget that you ever said these words. Now go back to sleep," Asher's eyes narrowed as he ordered her.

But Myra did not obey his order this time.

She crossed her arms over her chest as she looked at him seriously, "Asher, I am not a child, and I am not talking anything impulsively either. I am saying this after careful consideration. I want a divorce. It would be better if you agreed. If you don't agree, I don't mind going to court either. Anyway, I will not back down from this.

"Anyway, you don't have to give me a reply today. Just think about this carefully for the night and we can talk about this tomorrow morning. Good night."

After saying that, she continued to walk.

Asher grabbed her arm, "Where are you going?"

"I am going to the guestroom. I can't sleep with you anymore anyway," Even though his hand hurt her arm, she did not flinch as she replied as calmly as possible.

Asher did not lose his grip on her arm as he looked at her from above her head, "What exactly are you thinking? Why did you suddenly decide to do this? Did something happen? If you have any issues, you can talk to me. We can handle this matter together, right?"

He tried his best to stay calm and have a conversation with her.

Myra chuckled sarcastically, "I can talk to you? When?"

"What do you mean by that?" Asher frowned. He did not understand what she was talking about at all.

"Asher, every single day, you go to the office, come back home and go to your home office to do more work. When was the last time we talked to each other? Please remind me," Myra's words shot him directly as he knew that she was right.

But he tried to defend himself, "Myra, I am busy with work. I am so busy that I can't give any time for us. Can't you understand my point of view for once? Once I am done with my work, of course, I will be able to relax and give you the time, right?"

Myra looked at him with her reddened eyes, "Asher, what did you just say? I can't understand your point of view? I stayed by your side for the past three years without raising my voice even once because I did not understand your point of view? I tried my best to serve your parents like a servant so that they wouldn't put you in a spot just because I did not understand your point of view? I…"

She stopped herself from speaking further.

She had many complaints. Yes. But she doesn't want to throw them in his face like a child and whine anymore. She felt like she had already spoken way too much.

She wanted a divorce, and she wanted it in a clean and mature way.
