When she was ignored like that, Mother Han was angered, "Stop right there. How dare you ignore me?"
Myra stopped at her spot but did not turn around. She was worried that if she turned and looked at her mother-in-law right now, she would forget that she was dealing with an elderly person.
Even though the relationship between the two wasn't good, she didn't want to be disrespectful towards her elders.
"Auntie Huang," Myra called to the servant.
A middle-aged woman came to her as soon as she heard her name being called, "Yes, Madam?"
"We have a guest at home. Arrange some snacks first and then prepare for her dinner. I am a little tired now, and I will go to rest. Once Asher is home, serve the dinner for both of them. Please entertain the guest until he is back," Myra's voice sounded tired as she spoke each and every word in difficulty but with also a hint of adamance.
Auntie Huang felt weird from her tone as it wasn't her usual way of dealing with her mother-in-law, but when she heard her tired voice, she couldn't help but feel pity for her. She nodded immediately, "Okay, Madam. Do you want me to draw a bath for you? If you take a rest after taking a warm bath, you will feel better."
Myra shook her head, "There is no need."
Mother Han was angered as she thought she was being ignored by both her daughter-in-law and her servant and she scolded Myra again, "You are tired? What are you tired of? All you did was run around the city using my son's hard-worked money. Are you more tired than my son is? You just want to avoid me, right?
"You don't even respect your mother-in-law. I wonder what your parents had taught you when you were a child. Of course, only shameless people can teach someone to be as shameless as you. Such great parents you have! They gave birth to you and threw you into my family and vanished into thin air."
Mother Han continued to speak badly about Myra's parents and the latter couldn't bear it anymore and stopped in her tracks to turn around.
She looked straight into Mother Han's eyes and asked her, "Do you see anything in my hands?"
Mother Han did not understand what she meant by asking such a ridiculous question but still answered, "No. So what?"
"Then why were you so fixed on saying that I bought something using your son's money? I didn't even shop for a scrunchie using your son's money, and you are spouting nonsense about my parents and their upbringing. Just because you are an elder, do you have the right to scold anyone you want?" Myra's voice sounded calm even when she was scolding her mother-in-law.
"You…" Mother Han pointed her trembling finger at Myra as she couldn't react for a while.
Myra did not care about her reaction or her reply. She just wanted to go back to her room and lie down on her bed. She was very exhausted today.
Even though the exhaustion was emotional, her entire body felt like it had been going through a rollercoaster ride.
Auntie Huang was flabbergasted at Myra's words as well. Until this day, even though Mother Han had spoken many ruthless words to her, Myra had never once snapped at her. At most, she tried her best to explain herself in a humble way. It was very clear that she had been trying her best to have a good relationship with her mother-in-law for the sake of her husband.
This was the first time she spoke back at her, and she even left the angered elder in the living room alone before walking back to her room.
Auntie Huang did not know what to say to Mother Han, and she immediately escaped to the kitchen to prepare snacks and dinner as Myra had instructed earlier.
There is no way she would be able to handle Mother Han's anger all alone. She was just a servant, and she did not dare to show her face when her masters fought.
On the other hand, Myra did not think about her mother-in-law or anyone else. Her only thought had been about the events in the restaurant that day.
As she lay on the bed, her hand was on her chest. She felt her heart tighten.
Everything had been an illusion on her part. Her happy three years of marriage were nothing but a fantasy. This thought alone was enough to make her choke on air.
If she was in this marriage for convenience, then this might not have hurt her as much. But that wasn't the case. She never needed a marriage for convenience. If that was what she wanted, she wouldn't have to leave her family for this marriage.
She was happy during her marriage. Yes. She wouldn't deny it.
But if that happiness was nothing but her illusion, then would she want to continue living in that illusion forever?
The answer is a very loud and clear no.
If her husband had loved her from the depth of his heart like how she had, then she wouldn't mind him having an ex-girlfriend or two.
But from today's lies, she realized that wasn't the case.
With this thought, her moist eyes cleared up into a strong determination.
She wouldn't like to be a substitute in her husband's heart just because she loved him.
Also, she recalled the message she had read on his phone the day before. His friend, Riley Sun, told him not to delay their divorce anymore.
What does that message mean? It meant that Asher had been planning to divorce her all along. It was just that she was kept in the dark about it all this while.
She wondered when he wanted to tell her about it. Would he tell her after his true love came back?
So, now that she came back, would he ask for a divorce from her?
No, she would not allow it.
If their marriage had to end, then it should be her who would end it. Not the other way around.
Thankfully, she had her friend Avery by her side to make her understand this. Thankfully, she made her talk to her brother about getting a divorce.
This way, even when the divorce happened, it would be under her terms and not his.
As she thought, she heard the sound of the door opening.
