Chapter 16 - The Staff

Lex relaxed his body and let himself fall, he let gravity pull him down, towards the heart of the energy source where the staff was located. Lex spun like a sparrow, then he flipped his hand backwards, pointing it towards the sky.

*Boom!*

Lex released another wave of fire, accelerating even faster and letting gravity do the job, he was now falling at an even faster pace. Lex focused now, pushing the excitement away.

He needed this sort of boost to burst through the immense pressure and power the energy source constantly emitted.

The moment Lex came within 2 meters of the staff, he slowed down considerably, almost to a halt, he pushed further, but it was just too difficult for him.

Lex gritted his teeth as he was starting to feel that same pressure, searing his skin even.

Lex took his hand backward and formed a chain made of fire, he threw it forward, hoping to get it to wrap around the staff, so he could pull it right out of there and break this damned pressure. However, it wasn't easy, the chain dissipated as soon as it came in contact with the staff.

Lex lost his focus there for about 2 seconds and he totally loosened up.

"What? Did it just eat up my powers?"

*Boom!"

There was an explosion of energy and Lex was sent flying upwards, covering even more distance than he had done previously. Lex wasn't injured this time as he hadn't hit anything hard, even though his organs felt like something was crushing them, instead, he was still thinking.

"That means Celestial powers don't work on the staff... all the more reason I need to get it."

With that, he pulled himself back into a sudden stop mid-flight. He created a small pavement made of fire and he stepped on it. He folded his legs and concentrated even more energy, then he shot out, even faster than a meteor.

His entire body was lit up in flames as he pushed himself to his limits. He didn't exactly know what his limits were, so he just kept on tapping into his divine powers. If only he knew that there was no time limits in the Celestial realm. You could do as far as your power and potential lets you go.

So, in simple terms... he just needed to keep borrowing power from the universe, so far as you could withstand it's backlashe and the pressure that came with it, then you were invincible.

"Ragghhhhg!!!!"

Lex screamed as his entire frame was covered in flames. He spun around, moving even faster, then suddenly, all the flames in his body seemed to be suddenly sucked into his right arm.

Lex landed a very powerful blow on the energy source and even it too, wasn't strong enough to withstand such a strong attack.

Lex's hand came to a sudden standstill as it made contact with the energy source, as energy built up and the shock spread across the energy source, causing a really intense vibration that spread across the landscape, shaking the trees violently.

Lex raised a brow, he expected it to destroy, but it didn't. Instead, it was trying to suck up all the power Lex was releasing.

The dense energy field was coming from the staff and Lex needed at least three times its power to completely destroy it. But where would he find such power?

Lex realized that he would soon be blown away if he didn't hold on tight. The energy was acting in on itself and things were soon to get bad.

Fire blasted from Lex's fists, he punched even harder, trying to open a little space he could go through.

And it worked.

CRACK...

Lex wasted no time to burst through the small opening and he grabbed the staff even before he reached the floor.

Lex felt the dense energy pulling him down slowly disappear, and the staff which had been glowing all this while was gradually turned off. Lex was breathing hard.

"Huh? This staff is a bit heavy..."

Lex sighed in clear displeasure. He knew that the staff had still not approved of him, seeing the way the staff had repelled his Divine Senses that he had attempted to seep into it.

The Staff wasn't allowing him to make a Divine connection to it, so he could bond it to his soul.

Lex hissed, he held the staff down. Clearly, he couldn't use any of its powers now, it was more or less a large chunk of metal.

However, he couldn't return yet, well, he would love to, but he couldn't. He needed to make a Divine bond with the staff, then he would be able to return to the celestial kingdom.

While Lex was pondering this, his Divine senses suddenly picked a weird presence behind him and he turned, only to see a dark mist coming together very quickly from different directions, all gathering in one spot and it seemed to be forming something.

A human perhaps? Sorry, a celestial. No, what's the word...

A fallen Deity?
