Chapter 20 - Vyrax and Lex

Vyrax's laughter was bitter, hollow. "Kael was a fool. Always clinging to his ideals, always dreaming of a world that could never exist. That hope of his? It cost him his life. And now you stand here, his so-called successor, ready to follow in his doomed footsteps."

Lex stepped forward, his voice rising. "You don't get it, do you? Kael's hope didn't die with him. It's alive in me. And I'm going to use it to put an end to all of this—to the corruption, the chaos, and you."

Vyrax's expression twisted with rage. "An end? You think you can rewrite the will of the heavens? The cycle of power and destruction? You're a child playing with fire, and you'll burn for it."

Lex's grip on the staff tightened as its energy flared, casting a brilliant light that pushed back Vyrax's encroaching darkness. "Maybe I will. But I'd rather burn fighting for something real than live in fear of the likes of you."

Vyrax's composure cracked. He took a menacing step forward, his aura darkening the air around him. "You dare defy me? You, a mortal, dare to lecture me?!" His voice rose, thunderous and wrathful. "If you insist on this path, I will crush you where you stand!"

Lex smirked, though his heart pounded in his chest. "You can try."

With an enraged roar, Vyrax lunged, his massive sword cleaving through the air with terrifying speed. Lex barely had time to react, raising the staff to block the blow. Sparks of dark and golden energy erupted as their weapons clashed, the impact sending shockwaves rippling across the valley.

Lex spun away, the staff guiding his movements as if it had a will of its own. He countered with a burst of blue flames, the divine fire surging toward Vyrax like a tidal wave. The corrupted deity batted it away with ease, his laughter echoing once more.

"Is that all you have?" Vyrax sneered, summoning jagged spears of dark energy that shot toward Lex like arrows.

Lex dodged and weaved, each step fueled by a combination of instinct and the staff's guidance. He felt its power coursing through him, heightening his reflexes and sharpening his focus. With a swift motion, he struck the ground with the staff, sending a shockwave of golden light that shattered the incoming spears.

Vyrax growled, his form shifting as the dark mist around him thickened. "You're stubborn, I'll give you that. But stubbornness won't save you."

He surged forward, his movements blurring with inhuman speed. Lex braced himself, meeting the onslaught head-on. Their weapons clashed again and again, each strike resounding like thunder. Lex could feel the strain in his muscles, the weight of the battle pressing down on him, but he refused to falter.

During a brief pause, Vyrax loomed over Lex, his gaze burning with hatred. "You're naive, boy. Do you truly believe the heavens will welcome you with open arms? That they'll accept a mortal as their savior? They will fear you, just as they feared Kael. And when the time comes, they will betray you."

Lex's breath was heavy, but his resolve was unshaken. "Maybe they will. Maybe I'll have to fight them too. But I won't let fear dictate my path. I'll forge my own destiny, no matter who stands in my way."

Vyrax's lips curled into a cruel smile. "You speak with such conviction. But tell me this—when the weight of the heavens bears down on you, when you realize you are nothing more than a pawn in a game far beyond your understanding... will you still stand so tall?"

Lex's eyes burned with determination. "Watch me."

---

Vyrax roared, his form swelling with dark energy. The ground beneath them cracked and shattered as his power reached its peak. Lex gripped the staff, its light flaring brighter than ever before.

"You're finished, mortal!" Vyrax bellowed, his sword raised for a final, devastating blow.

But Lex didn't waver. Channeling every ounce of strength and willpower, he thrust the staff forward, its divine light surging like a blazing star. The two forces collided, light and darkness intertwining in a blinding explosion that shook the very foundations of the valley.

It was like a magical scene from a child's imagination...well, maybe it was.
