Chapter 7 - Switching Sides

"You dare defy my will!" The man screamed out and lunged a magic blade of death towards Celine. The energy seemed more dense and scarier than the last but Celine had an icy expression.

Seeing the impressive speed and power of death, Celine easily dodged the attack with the clarity she had obtained from her magical enlightenment. The whole crowd of Valerians watching the fight was stunned, including the man who had attacked her.

"Prodigy! Genius!" Those words were heard throughout the battlefield and the man angrily used his strongest attack. The Death's Envoy shouted a war cry and thousands of dead skeletons around Celine had risen. "You're dead!" He cried out.

The man, his skeleton army, and Valerian soldiers all attacked at once as Celine was completely surrounded. She breathed a calm breath of air and found clarity. She used telekinesis to have five blades from the battlefield float around her and prepared to attack.

Celine would never understand how she moved at this moment or how she had fought like she had thousands of years of experience, but she did. Instinct alone taught her what a lesson lectured never could've. She could feel it, her versus a thousand, but she knew she would win.

A blinding purple radiance shot across the battlefield. "She's using her magic to move faster!" One Valerian shouted before one of five floating blades had pierced his neck. Those stronger than him tried to move towards the telekinetic mage but she had created a field of distortion around her. When people tried to reach Celine they reached a certain point where all movement became erratic due to it being moved by her. This wasn't even a conscious decision as she had let her magic run rampant apart from the five blades floating next to her.

Those on the sidelines could only watch in horror as this human blitzed across the battlefield and almost nobody could approach her safely. Those who could were elegantly dodged or parried by one of the five floating blades. Each blade felt like they had a mind of their own but all of them moved according to Celine. Battling was surprisingly easy for her and her dominance reigned the battlefield.

"Impossible!" The arrogant man shouted. "I have been studying my magic for decades! How are you so powerful despite only knowing about magic for one week?" He incredulously scoffed and took a battle stance.

"It's simple," the Celine in a clarity state muttered. "You learned to study. I learned to survive." The man had already dashed at her and she parried with spectacular blows. Borderline gracefulness could be seen with the way Celine's five blades and her danced together to parry this man's attacks.

"It doesn't work that way!" He screamed yet again annoyingly and did an all-out attack. His frustration plus the fact that his opponent was defending easily caused a destructive rampage forward. His death magic chaotically ravaged his surroundings and he dashed towards Celine.

*Shing! The sound of a parry flickered. An elegant dodge of a side strike with a beautiful counter-attack aimed for the head that missed followed by an easy dodge of a heavy blow left a wide opening the man had slipped. "You can call it talent then. You can believe that's why you lost," Celine coldly replied and the man had a floating blade in his throat with a handheld blade through his heart.

No Valerian had ever seen a telekinetic mage before so it was hard to name them. But, if a master death mage was called a "Death's Envoy" then every Valerian at the battlefield knew what to call a master telekinesis mage. The name "Blade Dancer" resounded in their minds. The first and probably last Blade Dancer ever was born on this battlefield and her presence was intimidating to say the least.

Celine heaved heavy breaths as all her swords fell to the floor and the aura that caused erratic movement fell. She could no longer keep going. On her knees, Celine regretfully looked up to her enemies about to strike her when a saving grace descended upon her. "Wait," she heard those calm words come out of another woman's mouth.

This woman wore royal garbs and had black hair that had a faint blue hue flowing like a river. Her eyes were calmly green like her father's and she had many jewels like earrings to add to her beauty. One of these jewels was a silver tiara with emerald gems on her head and she gave a dominant gaze over the battlefield.

This woman, the very way she carried herself was far too different. It was as if she knew nothing on this battlefield could harm her. It wasn't arrogance like the man who had died, it was pure confidence. Just one glance let Celine know that this was no "master" at magic. No, she was far more. Something Celine couldn't even comprehend.

"I am Aria Valeria from the Valeria kingdom. You are?" She asked nicely.

"Celine Lithold," she barely breathed out.

Aria confidently spoke. "I have an offer for you, Celine Lithold. In this battle you have proved you are no barbarian like your counterparts but instead a genius not even I can comprehend. So, come live in the Valeria kingdom under my watch inside the royal castle. Either choose that or die because we cannot let humanity gain such a strong soldier."

Celine looked around to assess her options. Could she fight her way back home? The answer was obvious when she hadn't seen a single human across the entire battlefield.

"Your allies left you like cowards upon seeing just one master mage. However, you courageously stayed. That is another reason why I am proposing this offer to you. Do you think it is worth it to give your life for a country that doesn't care for you?" Aria scoffed in disgust at what humanity had done.

Not wanting to die pointlessly, Celine only said one word before falling onto the floor unconscious. "Alright," she croaked and Aria had a happy smile on her face.

"It's a good thing this prodigy managed to stay alive until I got here," Aria thought. "A master mage the first time upon using magic. A warrior who can fight bravely and a genius who figures out how to cure death magic on her own. I envy you, Celine Lithold. Just from one display you have achieved what others live their entire lives to try and accomplish." Aria carried Celine in a princess carry all the way home.
