Chereads / The Seventy-Third God / Chapter 10 - 10th Trial

Chapter 10 - 10th Trial

"10th trial started. Completion: every participant who volunteered for the tenth trial has been summoned to one platform. Be the last one standing to attain the ultimate prize. Gods are not allowed to descend upon the battlefield."

Every participant frowned upon realizing the completion for the tenth trial. "There can only be one winner," everyone thought. Factions and groups looked at each other with hesitant looks. Celine looked at her group of comrades but knew they wouldn't betray each other at this point.

"This doesn't matter. We were all prepared to die for this anyways," Aria expressionlessly told her team.

"Yeah we'll kill all our opponents and then decide which one of us is the most worthy of the final prize!" A flamboyant and fiery red haired man slammed his fists together in a battle stance.

"Some of the other factions appear to have the same thoughts as us," a calm man who had seen one to many tragedies and had the sigil of creation on him said.

A silent white haired beauty looked around. "Victory will grace us," she put her hands in prayer and knelt.

Several others motivated each other and stood, waiting for the first move. Nobody dared to be the first to attack so a large stalemate occurred. That was until a flying and destructive aura rampaged the center of the battlefield. It wasn't the raw power that scared the people, but a familiar feeling that sent a chill down everyone's spine. "Divinity! A god has descended!"

Because nobody knew that the prize for winning this trial was Godhood, nobody understood why divine beings weren't allowed to descend but the fact that this divine being had appeared here meant that it was against the tower's rules. And everybody, even gods, couldn't defy the trial rules. This caused Celine to immediately form a plan of action.

"Avoid him," she shouted to her comrades. "He will be killed shortly by the tower, just run and do not fight him!" The battle had begun like a storm after the godly entrance. Thousands of corpses were being piled up and Celine's group was surviving fine. They were one of the strongest factions after all.

However, Celine furrowed her brows when realizing that the god was still alive. "How can the tower not even kill him?" She mused. Nevertheless she fought the same because the god was staying away from them so she wouldn't be risky.

Time passed until Celine and her team were exhausted as the last team standing. Victory was imminent but all 5 trembled when they felt the divine aura approach. "I should've killed you guys first," the godly handsome man said.

"How- how are you even alive?" The black haired Ray with the sigil of creation asked with barely any breath. Looking back at what used to be a faction of so many more, Ray appeared desperate to win. He was familiar with the loss of allies but he hadn't lost his life yet and wanted to keep it that way.

The god hadn't responded and dashed at a light bending speed towards the flamboyantly red-haired man without a shirt, Ken. The duo interlocked hands in a contest of strength and Ken was starting to win in raw strength alone. He pushed the god back by several steps and yelled. "Weak for a god!" He taunted.

But Ken couldn't expect for his hands to start to turn grey where he fought the god. In a moment he screamed out in pain of having his hands being vaporized but some strong force had moved the god away from him and he flew towards Celine.

"Thanks," Ken said to Celine and the white haired woman came to heal his hands. This was the roles each had taken. Ken and Aria was the frontal assault while Ray and Celine supported them whilst dealing additional damage and lastly the priestess, Melina, healed her allies.

"Just don't let him get too close to me, Mr show-off," Celine laughed. This wasn't the team's first close encounter with death.

"That was decay magic. That god is a decay mage and I am stronger against them," the priestess said.

"Then weaken him and prepare for when he returns," Aria commanded.

"I'll find the weakness's and make you some gloves," Ray gestured to Ken softly and the god made a swift return.

The man hadn't even stopped for a second when he tried to dash to Celine in a flash. Following him, a spark of lightning struck and interrupted his path. Just as he was about to punch the annoying lightning woman with his decay, a fist slammed into his face cleanly.

"Decay that! Asshole," Ken shouted and performed a leaping jump to follow with a streak of lightning behind him. The duo approached the god with world-ending speed and launched a dual attack. A fist with enough force to go through his chest in the front and a lightning fast blade at his neck threatening to take his head.

The god easily smacked away Aria but couldn't stop the fist from impaling him. *cough, he spat out blood and looked at Ken deviously. "Divine Kingdom: Eternity."

Those words sparked a new sense of fear in Ken and he immediately tried to break distance. A god's Divine Kingdom was their ultimate strength. It was the major reason gods couldn't be defeated by mortals.

Ken started to feel decay chasing his arms again and he was pulled back by a magic force for the second time to the safety of the team's healer. "New gloves!" He yelled and charged back again to not leave Aria alone. The gloves soon magically found their way onto his hands.

"Volley!" Celine yelled and Ray immediately launched thousands of sharp objects into the sky. All the objects began to have a mind of their own as they pointed themselves at the immortal god and homed onto him.

Aria was struggling on her own without being able to even stand next to the man but the thousand flying objects came right on time. The god tried to dodge some of them and deflect but the homing nature on them left him impaled several times all throughout his body. But he was still alive.

A devastating punch that he couldn't follow hit him and he flew across thousands of bodies. Undeterred, he stopped and regained his composure. He increased the veracity of his divine powers and sped towards the thunder beyond what she could comprehend.

Suddenly, she moved upwards randomly and an enormously thick metal wall flew in her place. It dissipated the force of the god while disorienting him and his movement. The fragments of the wall he had just shattered move towards him like the objects from earlier and a white stormy light was crackling from above.

The disoriented god couldn't stop as Aria cut him in half from the torso. But the man regrew his legs and was still standing. Aria heaved a heavy breath of exhaustion and a magic force made her fly back to her team.

Labored breaths came out of Ken's mouth. "How do we kill him? I can't keep up. I've been fighting for too long now," Ken sweated profusely and his vision blurred from the exhaustion which was rare to see from a man like him.

 "I don't know," Ray quivered.
