Chapter 26 - Embarrassing Play

Morgan was happy. She knew Sunny didn't wish to see the play she was taking him to, but he had made a sacrifice for her. She was happy because this showed he cared about her, but also because he would be embarrassed the entire play.

Morgan wouldn't admit it herself, but she found Sunny especially cute when he was flustered. It also gave her the opportunity to engage in physical contact with him.

She had been holding back, but she really wanted to touch and hug Sunny every time she saw him. Retraining herself was a mental battle that matched even her most difficult endeavours.

Morgan led Sunny by the hand. She was walking slightly faster than him so he was practically being dragged along. She realised that maybe she had been a bit too excited and coughed lightly, letting go of his hand and slowing down.

They were nearly there anyway, and as much as she wanted to hold Sunny's hand, she had to keep up appearances as the princess of Valor.

They walked in silence. Sunny was clearly regretting his decision to let her bring him to the theatre, but begrudgingly following.

Soon, the two of them arrived, they were led through a back entrance to the VIP booth by an especially reverent attendant who kept stealing glances at Morgan.

The venue was not used to being attended by such high level figures, and her appearance there to watch the play would undoubtedly be a badge of pride for them. In fact, Morgan was almost certain their business would triple after her arrival.

They were led to their seats, the attendant curious as to Sunny's identity, but they both stayed silent. He left disappointed and Morgan settled into her seat.

Sunny was hesitating to sit so she gave him a questioning look. "Is it too late to back out now?" Morgan pondered for a bit, before smiling somewhat wickedly.

"I mean you can, but the theatre's reputation would take a big hit." Sunny hesitated, before sitting while wearing a downcast expression. She chuckled lightly, 'He's just too nice.'

By now it wasn't a question, Sunny's personality he put on as a saint of the Shadow Clan was a front. It was created from a necessity to survive in this cruel world. His true nature, if not kind, was responsible. He felt guilty if other people suffered from his actions.

She felt a pang of guilt for using his nature against him, which was intensified by the pitiful expression on his face. Morgan was having trouble reminding herself that the cute creature sitting beside her was supposedly a cold-hearted saint.

She shook off her thoughts. 'It doesn't matter, right now he isn't a saint of Shadow, and I'm not the princess of War. He's just Sunny, and I'm just Morgan.'

She smiled. She had been robbed of the ability to live a normal life by her responsibility as Valor's princess and the spell's gift to her, so it was nice to finally enjoy it now. She also felt happy that someone was by her side through the precious normality she had only achieved after nearly 30 long years.

Morgan shifted her attention away from Sunny who was wallowing in regret as the lights dimmed and the curtains to the play were lifted.

The play that she had chosen to see was about the Devil and Guardian Angel of Antarctica. The play started with the introduction of the devil, a gruff, middle-aged man with a boisterous personality.

Sunny visibly cringed and looked away from the stage as he appeared. Morgan smiled slightly, watching him out of the corner of her eye.

'Oh right, he was in Antarctica, right?' Morgan had remembered him saying it once, and considering his flaw it had to be true. 'It is said that the Devil was based on a real person. Did Sunny know him?'

She turned to Sunny and spoke softly. "Did you know the Devil?" He looked up, surprised at her question, and flustered by how close she was.

"Yeah… he's nothing like this." Morgan was intrigued. She had guessed Sunny knew of him, but not that he personally knew him.

"Is it someone I would know?" Sunny appeared to think for a bit before he answered her.

"I hope so." He replied. Morgan raised a brow, she had been vaguely interested before, but now she was invested.

"Oh? Who is it then?" He froze, sighing subtly. At first she was confused by his reaction, but it became clear when he spoke.

"It's me." It was her turn to be flustered. She looked to the stage, and then back at Sunny, her lips curling into a mischievous smile.

"I didn't know you were that tall, why are you like this now?" Sunny looked at her, mortified.

"Because I never was!" It looked to physically pain him saying he was never tall. Morgan chuckled, and he grumbled, turning back to the play.

Sunny seemed unwilling to talk to her after that, so she silently watched the play instead. Morgan didn't actually need to tease him herself, the play elicited a lot of amusing reactions from him without any of her input.

The play itself was a duality of two stories, one of the Devil of Antarctica, and the other of its guardian angel. Sunny showed some reaction to the appearance of the angel, but it was more muted. He was utterly horrified, however, when romance developed between the two.

Sunny held his head in his hands and started sliding down his seat. He accidentally leaned over to Morgan's side since there was no armrest between them, so he tried to pull himself back.

Morgan didn't let him. She wrapped an arm around him and kept him leaning into her. Sunny struggled for a bit before giving in and leaning into Morgan.

She wasn't really focusing on the rest of the play afterwards, but she enjoyed her time anyway, watching with a smile on her face. 'I think I actually really like this play. I should send my regards to the writer.'
