Chapter 30 - Unforgettable Dinner

Sunny had ended his previous date with Morgan on a serious note, so he decided to rectify his mistake by suggesting another one a day later.

He went about his day like usual, serving customers and bullying Aiko. He had suggested holding it after the day ended because both he and Morgan were busy throughout the day.

The hours passed quickly as he was immersed in his work, idly listening to the conversations of his patrons as he served them.

When it got really busy, he summoned an avatar to help cook, and before he knew it, the day was over.

Sunny quickly packed up and shooed Aiko out, retreating into the kitchen to watch over the meal he was preparing.

He had been preparing since she left from their previous date. He was using the meat from a great demon, so it was bound to be magnificent but extraordinarily tough.

He had come up with a solution. Any self respecting chef would know that the longer you cooked a piece of meat, the more tender it would become.

It was extremely difficult to cook the meat from a great demon anyway, so he had to use a very high heat for a long duration to achieve his intended tenderness. To be thorough, he had also tenderised the meat beforehand.

The meat was looking plenty roasted already. He just had to finish the rest of the meal and serve it to Morgan.

Soon, the person he was waiting for arrived. Morgan came in wearing her usual suit. He watched her briefly look around through shadow sense before he came out of the kitchen.

She greeted him with a smile. "I've been looking forward to your cooking all day." Sunny returned her smile and sat her down at one of the tables.

"It'll be ready in a moment." Sunny returned to the kitchen. He quickly did the finishing touches and threw together a simple salad to put on the side.

He then finally took a look at the meat. He wasn't actually fully convinced he could get the meat tender enough, so he had specifically enchanted the pot he had put it in to progressively weaken whatever was placed inside.

As he carefully took the chunk of meat out from the pot, and pushed off the herbs it was cooking in, he finally got to admire what he had managed to achieve. He observed the perfectly cooked meat and smiled.

Because of the manner in which he had cooked it, it was perfectly even all the way through. His extra caution in making a specialised pot to weaken the meat had proven useful, as the meat was only just barely as tender as he wanted it to be.

He got to work carving it. The meat fell off the bone of the demon effortlessly which made his work a lot easier. Granted, he was using the equivalent of a transcendent weapon to cut it.

In reality, with normal utensils, it was about as tough as a steak that was cooked until it was well done. Sunny was still surprised he had managed to get such tough meat that tender.

He placed it on the plate in a way that looked cool. He was no expert in presentation as the majority of his meals were made in haste out in areas of conflict, but he tried to make it at least presentable.

Sunny didn't actually need to put in much effort, he was sure that the taste of the meat was enough to overshadow anything presentation could do for the dish. He served two plates, one for himself and the other for Morgan, both with meagre proportions.

As he stood back and admired his work, he smiled, picking up both plates and walking out of the kitchen to meet Morgan.

Morgan wasn't actually expecting that much from Sunny. Sure, she wouldn't be surprised if his skills were good, but he probably wouldn't be able to serve her something she would ordinarily remember.

She was simply happy to be able to have something made by him. He seemed to have put an awful lot of effort into it, so she was determined to enjoy it even if it wasn't the best thing she'd ever had.

As Sunny walked over with two dishes, each loaded with food, she smiled at him. He placed one in front of her and the other in front of the seat opposite. "Wait just a moment."

Morgan watched as he retreated, coming back with a bottle of water and two glasses. "I figured that I wouldn't be able to procure a wine good enough for your standards, and it wouldn't be able to get us drunk anyway."

She smiled, he was right, but she didn't need to tell him that. Sunny poured them both water in a similar fashion to the professional waiters. She was surprised he had managed to perfectly replicate the motion and chuckled lightly. He smiled in response.

Sunny walked around and sat opposite her. "Dig in" He wasted no time so she decided not to either.

On the first bite, her concerns of the food were immediately dismissed. It wasn't fancy in any way, but it didn't need to be.

The simple flavours and methods brought out the truly marvelous taste of the meat. She wondered where he had got it from, but couldn't ask the question as she already had more food in her mouth.

She tried the salad too, it was good and refreshing, complementing the meat, but it wasn't nearly as delicious. Sunny was clearly enjoying it too. They both ate in silence, not wanting to stop eating to talk.

Morgan had a vague suspicion that the meat came from a truly powerful nightmare creature, but the way he had managed to keep the meat soft and tender despite its natural toughness eluded her.

Soon her plate was cleared and she was left feeling empty. "Do you have any more?" He smiled, not caring about her shameless question.

"Of course I do, there's no way I'd only cook a little bit of this delicacy."
