Chapter 28 - Gifts

Morgan led Sunny out of the theatre and down the streets towards his cafe. She was sad that the date was over, but reassured herself that there would be many more to come.

Sunny noticed the direction she was taking him and looked at her with a silent question. "I'm taking you home," She shrugged. "I don't have anything else planned." She did previously, but she had changed her plans on the fly.

Sunny appeared to think for a moment before replying, "I see." Morgan was a little disappointed that he didn't ask her to stay longer, but she respected his decision.

The two of them continued to walk in silence. Eventually, Morgan found herself standing outside of the familiar cafe. She turned to Sunny, leaning over and planting a soft kiss on his lips, "I'll see you next time."

Morgan stood up straight, turned around and started walking the other direction, but Sunny caught her hand. His voice sounded uncertain, "Do you want to come in?"

Morgan, still turned away from him, smiled broadly. She turned around and walked to the door, practically dragging Sunny along.

She pushed open the door and a melodious ring greeted her. She turned to Sunny and spoke, "You should really lock the door if you're going out." She was surprised by his forgetfulness.

Sunny looked at her and then a small, prideful grin graced his features. "It's fine, this house is… an echo of sorts." Morgan was surprised, but it made sense. She had seen the floorboards of his room repair themselves after all.

Sunny let her to his room and walked inside. The interior of the room was in a much better state than they had left it. He had managed to get a new bed, and there was no trace of the damage on the walls or floor.

Morgan suddenly felt guilty for trashing the place, he looked to have spent quite a bit of time sorting out the damages. "Sorry for last time." She apologised.

Sunny looked up at her a little remorsefully, but he had the same prideful grin on his face from before. "About that… come here."

Sunny led her to the bed and sat her down on it. It was bigger than the previous one, and seemed more luxurious too. "Take off your glove and touch it."

Morgan was surprised by his command, but she did as he said. Taking off her glove, she lightly touched the bed, and it simply compressed. Her eyes widened.

Instead of splitting apart under the strength of her flaw, the bed remained intact. She had a vague idea of what was happening as she felt essence being pulled from her body.

"You made it a memory." Sunny's grin grew wider. From what she could tell, the bed only had one enchantment, but it was especially powerful. It was able to resist damage done to it by using an equivalent amount of essence.

The essence consumption of the bed was a lot lower than she would have expected from such an enchantment. It actually took less essence than her natural replenishment of it.

"Wow…" She was amazed by his ability. She knew it must have taken a lot of effort to build something like this, and he did it out of consideration for her. "How does it use so little essence?"

Sunny seemed prepared for her question. "I made the bedsheets with silk from a great monster. The mattress itself is store bought."

Morgan looked at him in surprise. She took a closer look at the bedsheets, they had felt oddly soft under her skin, but she didn't think much of it before.

Now that she looked, she could see the bedsheets were woven with a lower thread count than the sheets you could find at stores. "That's amazing," She was truly astonished that Sunny would go to such lengths for her.

Normally, a great monster would be all but unaffected by her flaw, but the silk from one was much more delicate, so it needed an enchantment to bolster its defence.

"Actually, that's not all." Morgan looked up at him in amazement as he fetched a bag from the foot of the bed and handed it to her. She held the bag with her gloved hand and curiously peered inside.

Within the bag, there were masterfully woven clothes. They consisted of a simple shirt and pants, but she could tell they were made from the silk as the bedsheet.

"I figured you didn't have many comfortable clothes, so I made some with the same enchantments." He paused, "They're memories of course."

A wide smile made itself onto Morgan's face. 'I married someone truly wonderful.' She reached inside to pull out the clothes, but they disappeared in a storm of sparks.

[You have received a memory]

The familiar voice of the spell spoke in her ear. Shimmering runes appeared in front of her and she grimaced slightly.

Turning to Sunny, she spoke, "You should leave the naming to someone else." She turned back to the runes and focused on the name of the new memory at the bottom of the list.

Memory: Silk Clothes

Memory Type: Garment

Memory Rank: Supreme

Memory Description: [They won't be cut.]

The memory was supreme in name only, it was less useful than even some of her ascended memories in battle, but it held a special significance to her.

Morgan smiled brightly at Sunny who seemed to have taken a hit from her earlier comment. "Thank you. I feel bad for not having gifts for you."

Sunny regained his spirit and smiled at her. "You won't be able to destroy the bed anymore." To that, she raised an eyebrow.

"Oh? Are you planning to have me in your bed more often?" Sunny seemed fluster, but he inevitably answered her question.

"Yes…" He turned away, blushing, but soon composed himself and spoke before Morgan could. He was suddenly serious, so Morgan followed suit. "Actually, I have something I want to talk about."
