ARTEMIS POV
The man in front of me looked so much like Aiden that it unnerved me. I smiled at him and extended a hand.
"Artemis," I said simply and he smiled. His green eyes were not as dark as Aiden's but somewhat rougher.
"Artemis, I like that. What goddess is she of again?" He asked and I stopped. Aiden had known that but he didn't… maybe I should stop comparing the two brothers in my head.
I smiled at him instead.
"She's the good of the moon, hunt, and wild animals," I explained and his eyes lit up.
"Yeah. I remembered that well. You know I never paid attention to Greek myth class," he said and I chuckled. There was something off about him but I liked him anyway. He wasn't as cynical as Aiden and knew when to crack a joke.
Stop comparing Artemis.
"So Artemis, why are you here?" He asked and I shrugged.
"I came with your brother, Aiden I mean," I said and Kane smiled.
"Ohh I see…" he paused. "Do you like him?" he asked, catching me off guard.
"I…I…I don't"
"Well I don't," Kane answered his own question. "Not that I hated him, but he is too grumpy and cold and doesn't know when to smile, can't blame him though. He had a hell of a childhood from my dad," he said and I stared at him.
"Was he always like that?" I asked and Kane's eyes darkened a bit, looking so much like Aiden's.
"No. No he wasn't," he answered. He smiled at me.
"You like him?" He asked again and this time I nodded. He could tell already so there was no need to hide it.
"Yeah. Not everyone we like, likes us back. Aiden right now is like an empty shell, no feelings, no emotions, just Aidan," he said and I chuckled.
"That's bad mouthing," I said with a smile and Kane shrugged.
"That's telling the truth," he corrected and I laughed.
"I am sure he isn't that kind of person entirely. He just built a brick wall around himself," I said. Kane's eyes bore into mine for a moment then his lips curved into a smile.
"You, my dear, are a perceptive woman. Aiden is lucky to have you," he said. My lips curved into a smile of their own.
"Thank you," I said and he grinned.
"Why don't you thank me with a dance? It's been long since I had one and I think all this talk about Aiden is getting me bored," he pushed back his hair and I laughed.
"Of course," I replied and offered him my hand. He took it and led me to the dance floor. I was well aware of his hands on my waist and didn't object.
Since Aiden didn't control my life or decide what to do I could do whatever I want. I wrapped my arms around Kane's neck and his hands lowered to my butt—I didn't object. He gave it a squeeze.
Let him do what he wants anyway.
Kane's smile widened when I didn't object and he leaned closer.
"Someone is in the mood tonight," he said and I shrugged, tracing my fingers along the back of his neck.
"I don't care. I just want to enjoy life even if it's only tonight," I said and he nodded. He leaned closer till our lips were inches apart. I didn't want to kiss him but I still parted my lips open for him. I could feel his breath…
Suddenly Kane was abruptly removed from my arms and I turned to see the furious face of Aiden.
"Brother," Kane said, spreading his arms and Aiden glared at him coldly.
"What did you think you were doing?" Aiden asked and Kane shrugged. He made a sheepish face.
"It's not like she is your wife is she?" He asked and Aiden's eyes sparked dangerously.
"She is. Stay away from her," he said and dragged me away by my hand. I struggled but his grip was too strong. Immediately we stepped out into the chilly night I slapped him hard.
"You want a death wish?" He asked with a sneer and I scowled.
"Who do you think you are? Coming in and ruining my fun," I seethed and he growled.
"Fun? You call parting your lips for Kane fun?" Aiden asked.
"He is more fun than your grumpy ass. He knows how to make me laugh," I insisted and he shook his head.
"Kane is not who you think he is," he said quietly, reining in his temper but I wasn't having it.
"I don't care,"
"He is dangerous," Aiden added and I laughed bitterly.
"So are you Aiden. You know what, why don't you leave me alone? Go enjoy yourself with whatever woman you've been with since. I really don't care," I said and Aiden's green eyes darkened—as if something had died in them.
"Fine," he said, his voice deepening and he walked away. I watched as he walked away, my heart breaking. I had wished the reason he had dragged me out was because he felt something for me, but it seems like he was doing this all for his reputation.
He didn't care about me. He didn't want me. He just walked away. I know I was harsh but couldn't he just get the hint.
I heard shuffling of feet behind me and I turned to see Kane watching me carefully. He held two glasses of wine in his hand.
He handed me one and I took a sip. Kane sighed as he downed him.
"Give him time. He would come around, and if he doesn't, remember that I am available" he said and I shot him a grin.
"Thank you Kane," I said and he grinned.
"My pleasure. Mrs Vincent," he said, flashing me a roguish smile.
