ARTEMIS POV
The next few days were the worst. I and Aiden avoided each other, no greetings, no talks, no banter. Daymon on the other hand was unusually soft and didn't rough handle me. He had even made coffee the morning I fell sick. Aiden for some reason had been there too, but I told him that I didn't want to see him. Of course he had ignored me and ask a maid to see to me.
"Here have this," the maid said, handing me a tonic and I peered at the liquid in the bottle.
"I don't want this, Esther," I said and Esther shook her head. I didn't blame her, I was as stubborn as a mule.
"It's for your health ma'am," she said and I made a face.
"It's bitter," I said and Esther laughed. She caught herself and made a sheepish face.
"Sorry," she apologized and I smiled.
"That's okay," I said and drank the tonic and retched. I hated medicines, and I always hoped to avoid getting sick. The door opened and Aiden walked in, with one single glance Esther scurried out of the room.
"You didn't have to send her away," I poured all the irritation into my voice and he shrugged.
"Did you take the medicine?" he asked. I shook my head incredulously. What did he want?
"Go away Aiden, leave me the hell alone," I said and he nodded.
"I will after I make sure you are alright," He put his hands on my temples, I moved my head away. He put them near my face and I bit his hand. He winced and stared at the hand—it was bleeding.
Oh God, what have I done?
"Oh my gosh. I am so sorry. I am so stupid" I said. I grabbed the hand and tore a piece of my cloth and wrapped it around. The blood soaked it easily and I wrapped another.
"I am so sorry," I said. "I didn't mean to."
"You did," he said calmly, no hint of emotion in his voice, just plain and flat.
He let me treat the hand and when I was done he got to his feet.
"Thank you Artemis, get well soon." He headed for the door.
"Aiden?" I called and he stopped. He didn't turn around, just froze there.
"Why can't you love me back?" I asked and he shrugged.
"I made a vow, never to fall in love" he answered and I frowned.
"Why? I asked and he frowned.
"You'll know one day. I'll be back, heading out. Daymon would watch and make sure you take your medicines." He said and before I could say another word he was gone.
Esther came in immediately Aiden left, eyes wide as saucers.
"Girl he likes you," she said and I raised a brow, was she kidding? He was doing this only to pretend to Don Carlo.
"That's not true," I puffed a strand of hair from my face.
Esther plopped down on the bed beside me and pushed my hair back.
"He does. He is fighting it. Tell me where is Don Carlo?" Esther asked and I studied her for a bit.
"Brazil why?"
"Where are we?" She asked and I gave her a confused stare.
"Florida"
"Good," Esther traced circles around the white bedsheet.
"His father is in Brazil so what reason does Mr Aiden have to show any bit of affection when his father is miles away." She explained.
"I still don't believe it but thanks… for giving me hope" I said and Esther nodded. She tossed me a towel.
"Sorry but you stink, go take a shower," she said and I grinned and headed to the bathroom. Thoughts of what she said kept flooding my head. Was she somehow right? Did Aiden really care but was only pretending not to show feelings?
I couldn't let any of these thoughts get to my head because I felt like the moment I accepted it he would shatter my already fragile heart. I took a shower as quickly as I could and stepped out of the bathroom. Esther was nowhere to be seen, she probably went to do something.
I peeped out the door to see if I could roam about a bit when I saw Daymon standing there watching me with those icy eyes. His blond hair was styled into a regal ponytail. He looked so stunning that I just stared, it was when he gently pushed me back in and shut the door.
I was still wrapped in my towel and he shook his head and headed for the door.
"Get dressed. Aiden asked me to watch you. Don't do anything stupid," he said and walked out.
Don't do anything stupid.
Like I was a child. I hated when they treated me like a child. Aiden especially, Daymon was just doing his job, I understood that but Aiden. He was every bit annoying
I hurriedly put on new clothes and plopped back onto the bed. I just laid like that thinking, with no idea that time had passed when I stared at the window again it was already dark.
I must have fallen asleep.
This wasn't how I lived life before. I wasn't someone who liked sitting still in one place. I had even been diagnosed with ADHD once. I pushed open the door and Daymon wasn't there.
Perfect!
I tiptoed the halls, heading for the gardens. I just wanted some fresh air and I knew that if Daymon or Aiden saw me they wouldn't let me.
I put my hand on the door knob leading outside and slowly started to push it open.
"Where do you think you are going?" came Aiden's voice and I jumped.
I turned to see him leaning casually into a wall, a bottle of beer in his hand and the other a glass. He looked drunk, which was… new.
"Care for a drink?" He asked
