Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: Hidden Secrets

Hyrus POV:My eyes slowly opened. I looked around. It seemed that Cal had left, and I was alone in the room. It was already 11:00am. I looked around. The room seemed to be silent other than the chirping of the birds outside in the courtyard the window overlooked. There was nothing to do in this room, but I knew Cal would probably be angry if I left, risking getting found by someone.I went to the nightstand next to the bed, I was fairly sure I had seen him reading some sort of book yesterday, I supposed I didn't really have much else to do.I carefully opened the drawer to see a thick leather-bound book, with a mysterious symbol of a diamond on the cover, printed in bright gold. I slowly opened the book, the book cracking with age, it was all written in a language I couldn't understand, strange symbols and illustrations of destruction and strange figures luminated with a glowing aura. It was a spellbook I realized, there was nothing else it could possibly be. I put the book exactly how I found it, it could be dangerous, I didn't want to find out what power the book held. The time seemed to pass ever slowly. I didn't want to be confined to this damn room anymore. If I was careful, I could avoid being seen. I slowly opened the door, the hinges thankfully smooth and not emitting any sound. The halls seemed completely empty, I saw no people as I walked through the castle. What was I doing? I knew this was probably a terrible decision.I suddenly heard footsteps coming from the intersection of the hall only a few meters away from me. My eyes darted around the hallway, finally landing on a door. I quickly opened the door which was thankfully unlocked and closed it as quickly and quietly as I could.I could see shadows of someone walking from the crack under the door. Whoever it was paused right outside. My breath caught, I didn't even breath, not daring to make a sound. The footsteps then resumed and quietly disappeared through the hall. I let out a sigh of relief, opening the door to the empty hallway.I had to get back to the room, this had been a terrible mistake. I looked around. Which way was back to the room? I racked my mind. Fuck, I couldn't remember. I couldn't risk being found I slowly went left, through the halls, I would find my way back eventually. I finally reached double-doors made of a dark wood. I was pretty sure this was it.I opened the doors carefully. This was not what I was looking for. I opened the doors to a massive library. Bookshelves seemed to line every wall in this room, completely filled with books. The library seemed to be 3 floors high, a spiral staircase leading upstairs, and the whole space was completely empty, not a soul there.I walked through the magnificent library, most of the books seemed antique, thousands of years old at least. I walked through the left side of the library until I heard something. My ears strained to pick up the sound. It sounded like a voice, like someone was crying. The sound almost seemed to be coming from the walls, I crept to where I thought I heard it coming from. There was no way it was possible, the crying seemed to get louder, it was coming from behind the bookshelf, behind the wall itself. I pulled the books out of the shelf, giving me a view of the wall, I didn't notice anything unusual at first. Then I saw it. There was a small, indented line in the wall, almost invisible. I reached my hand out...I felt a paw grab my shoulder, yanking me away. Cal's face was filled with fury."What the fuck are you doing?!" he growled. "You were supposed to stay where I'd left you, if someone finds you then I doubt they would let you live!"I stuttered. "I-I'm sorry, I was just, I just..." I trailed off unable to finish my sentence. He groaned, rubbing at his face. "Whatever, just don't do that again, I'm not fucking joking."He grabbed my arm, casting the invisibility spell before walking me back to the room.
