Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: The Castle

"Isn't your house the other way?" I asked. The wolf man grinned."No, over here." He said smugly, gesturing to the castle. We were almost to the castle, a large gate blocking anyone from entering. But the wolf man pulled out a large golden key, sliding it into a small keyhole, almost invisible on the gate.We entered a massive garden area, hydrangeas bushes blooming bright blue and pink flowers to the right of the path, and some of the tallest magnolia trees I had ever seen to the right."So your family must be very wealthy." I observed."Yes, being part of the royal family does garner quite a lot of wealth." He said slyly."Royal family?!" I said louder than I had meant. He smirked "Yes, heir to the throne in fact, I'll be ruling this country in a few years."I couldn't believe it. This wolf man heir to the throne?! I couldn't believe my odds."I-I'm sorry for being so rude earlier." I said softly. He chuckled. "No point in talking like that now."I supposed that he was right. I felt so embarrassed. As he opened the door, I was amazed. The castle was massive and made out of grey stone bricks, a chandelier hung from the ceiling, lit torches on the wall. It was incredible, much larger then any place that I had ever seen before."Cool, isn't it?" the wolf man said."It's incredible."He suddenly grabbed my elbow."Don't make a sound." he snapped quietly.I stayed silent, though I didn't understand what he was getting at. Suddenly I saw a tall wolf man who looked similar to the one now gripping my elbow, though much older, seeming to be in his 60s or so, his grey fur scattered with white strands turn the corner of a nearby hallway, walking right towards us."Cal, where have you been? I haven't seen you in quite some time." the older wolf man said."I'm sorry father, I was just out on the border of town, I thought I heard of a potential intruder." he responded, his voice sounding more submissive than it had been earlier. The older wolf man narrowed his eyes. "Alright, well you should be going to bed quite soon, you have an important day tomorrow and you must be well-rested.""Yes father."The wolf man grabbing my elbow, Cal apparently his name, quickly walking the other way, tugging me along, a stern look on his face. As soon as we turned the corner, walking into a different hallway, he gave a shuddering sigh, his shoulders slumping forward."I'm sorry, that was my father. If he knew you were here as a human, he'd have you publicly executed." Cal said sullenly.I must have visibly flinched. He chuckled. "Don't worry, I won't let that happen, it's just that none of us here in Allivaria have never seen a human, even me. I only heard of your kind in the archival books we keep in the library."Finally, he opened a door at the end of the hallway. It opened to a large living space, with fluffy chairs and a bookshelf filled to the brim with books, and to the right, a small bed with a wooden nightstand to the left of it."This is incredible!" I exclaimed. He smiled before leading me to a chair, sitting in the one beside mine."So, we have a lot to discuss, I had no knowledge of humans surviving for this long in these parts." he said suspiciously."W-what do you mean?""I mean that there hasn't been a sighting of a live human for over 1000 years."I was taken aback, 1000 years?! "B-but then how did I... I don't understand." I was hopelessly confused."It's alright, I'm just confused how you got here, especially in those forests, you could easily get lost if you hadn't been there before.""I-I don't know how I got here. Hell, I don't remember anything." I felt my vision become blurry and found I was on the verge of tears. I didn't understand shit about this place and didn't remember a damn thing about my past. I was just so fucking confused about everything."Hey, it's alright, I will help you. It would be cruel not to, considering your odds of survival would be next to none if I didn't help you."He put a comforting paw on my shoulder."I'm just so confused." I said softly, my voice shaky.Cal sighed. "I understand. Anyway, I should be getting to bed, there are some spare clothes in the washroom that you can wear."I quietly went there and shut the door sighing, my hands rubbing at my face. I was so tired after today. The clothes that Cal had left were warm and fluffy though a bit oversized, though I wasn't complaining. As I walked into the room, Cal who seemed to be reading a book quickly closed it and put it in a drawer in his nightstand before turning to me. Suspicious."So where do I get to sleep?" I asked.Cal grinned. "Well, I guess you'll just have to sleep in the bed with me." he said slyly."O-okay." I said, though I could have easily slept on one of the chairs, I didn't want to be rude.I hopped on and luckily there was plenty of space, so I didn't feel as uncomfortable as I had originally expected. Cal out of nowhere then wrapped his arms around my chest, his long tail going around my waist. He made a soft, purring-like noise.I froze. What was he doing?"Cal, can you please... let go of me?" I asked softly."What do you mean human?""Well, you are... hugging me.""Oh, I see. I'm taking it that this sort of behavior isn't normal from where you are from?""N-no, at least I don't think so."He sighed, clearly disappointed. "Well, our species, the Kurjak usually do this sort of thing to each other, I can usually cuddle with one of my friends or someone, but today it seemed too late." He said sighing again. That seemed very strange. Even though I had lost the memories of my past I still thought that was highly unusual."Please, let me?" Cal asked.Fuck, this was weird. "F-fine." I replied hesitantly. He wrapped his arms back around me, nuzzling his head into my neck. It made me feel increasingly uncomfortable. But his fur was very warm and fluffy, after a few minutes I felt my eyelids become heavy, slowly drifting to sleep.
