Chapter 4 - Chapter 4

Sergio paced the length of his office, his phone placed on his ear and his free hand clenching on a stress ball.

His black shirt's sleeve was rolled up to his elbows, the top buttons were left undone and his dark curls was a mess, as if he had run his hands through it so much.

"Where was he seen last?", he asked whoever was on call with him and from the look on his face, he wasn't satisfied with the answer.

"Track every of his movements, I want an inventory on him for the past six months", he ordered and dropped the call with an angry sigh.

"Sergio she is awake now and is asking too many questions", a lady walked into his office.

She had a dirty blond hair and the bluest eyes and her leather pants and jacket hugged her slender form.

Sergio sighed and sat down on his office chair.

"Have they found who was behind the attack?", she asked.

"Luciano. Who else?", Sergio gritted.

"It's about time that little bitch died", the woman said, anger lacing her words.

"What do you plan to do with her?", she asked Sergio who sighed.

"Send her home. Make sure she does not find her way back here", he ordered and stood up from his chair, his back turned to the woman, signalling the end of the discussion.

"Get up red. You're going home", the blonde addressed Jane when she came into the room they kept her.

Jane swung her legs down from the bed when she heard those words but that pain nagged at her again.

"Are you always this clumsy?", the woman sighed and went to help her.

Jane clamped her eyes shut, willing the tears that the pain brought away.

Was it only the bullet wound or was it something else that was hurting her?

"I thought you guys were holding me hostage?", Jane asked when she found her bearings.

"Hostage? You got shot remember?", the woman asked her.

She grabbed Jane's arm and slung it over her shoulder to help her walk.

"Yeah. Well it has been over a week if I'm correct", Jane shrugged and limped with the woman's help.

"So you would have preferred if he left you to die?"

"No, I'm just asking. You both are suspicious. I don't even know either of your names and I've been here for a while now", Jane shrugged.

They came out to the small sitting area of the house. It looked neat, as if nobody was using it. It also felt empty, save for the furniture.

"I'm Phoenix", the woman answered her.

"Phoenix? That's a nice name. I'm Jane", Jane said, a lightness about the way she spoke.

"That's a common name", Phoenix said.

"I know right. You can imagine how many people bore my name everywhere I've gone to", Jane rambled on.

"Do you always over share?", Phoenix asked after a while of listening.

"Not usually. I'm nervous", Jane answered, biting her lips.

"Of what? You're finally going home", Phoenix asked her, leading them through another room.

How many sitting rooms were in this house?

"That's exactly what I'm nervous about", Jane said.

They got to a door and Phoenix fished out a silky blindfold out of her pocket and went to tie it around Jane who jumped away and fell on her ass.

"Jesus Christ", Phoenix groaned.

"Why do you want to tie my eyes?", Jane eyed the blindfold.

"I know it's a bit old-fashioned but I don't want you returning here. I can knock you out or give you something if you would like that instead", Phoenix peered down at her.

Jane shook her head and frantically stood up.

"Umm, I'll take the blindfold", she said.

"That's what I thought", Phoenix mumbled and tied her eyes before leading her outside where there was no other house close to the one they were coming from.

Phoenix helped her limp to a black car and helped her in before going to the driver's side.

"You guys seem dangerous", Jane started again when she felt that Phoenix was in the car.

"We are"

"Okay"

"Give me your address", Phoenix mumbled and started the engine.

Jane rambled the address for Phoenix and she nodded her head and moved the car.

"I'm curious", Phoenix started this time.

"Yeah?", Jane looked around, or rather, attempted to look around with the blindfold wrapped around her head.

"Why are you nervous about going home?", Phoenix asked.

Jane shuffled around and wrung her hands, her head bent down.

"It's a bit of a long story", she whispered.

"It's a bit of a long drive", Phoenix shrugged and eyed the lady beside her.

Jane sighed and proceeded to tell her everything that troubled her, she even shed a few tears.

Okay, it was a lot of tears and sniffing and snorting that by the time Phoenix had gotten her home, the blindfold had been soaked with Jane's tears.

Meanwhile, Sergio had watched Phoenix help the redhead out of the house and into the car.

Running into her was not entirely a coincidence but a bullet lodged into her calf was not a part of his plan.

Infact, disrupting her father's funeral was not a part of his plan, neither was holding his father's funeral in the same cemetery and on the same day as Jane's father's funeral part of his plan.
