Who is interrupting us, and why do their heels make so much noise? I wondered as I removed my arms from around Christian.
Being caught by someone whom I don't know wasn't on my mind. I only wanted to take my time in exploring my feelings for Christian in secret.
If this person won't stop antagonizing us, I have no idea how I will react.
Slowly, I made my way to his left side, I knew it was important to stand near him.
As I inched closer, our arms bristled at the sudden contact, causing my teeth to chatter.
Does this have to do with the mate bond, even though we never talked yet? Or am I overthinking it?
Just as I stood next to him, the strange woman snarled, her lips curled up in an unsettling smile.
She stared at us, a look of anger forming in her eyes.
As I continued to watch her, my heart started pounding inside my chest. Then a few moments later, my palms began sweating profusely.
Her words would undoubtedly have an effect on me. But would it be positive or negative?
"I see you have found another weakling to take under your arm." She growled in my direction, then spit on the floor.
Who is this woman? Why would she say something like that? I pondered, as the words she spoke stuck like glue to my brain.
I can't understand why I let it get to me. Was it because of the way my so called parents treated me? Or is it something else entirely?
As those thoughts plagued my mind, I felt Christian's hand on my shoulder. It was both steady and warm, a gentle reminder that I wasn't alone.
Yet, I still felt like I was alone in this world.
Then his voice broke through my foggy brain. "Darla, you have no right to be in here! We aren't even together!" He declared with authority in his voice.
Who's Darla? Is she his ex-girlfriend, or someone he only had one-night stands with? Why am I even jealous? I thought to myself, as an onset of anger, and possessiveness started filling my head.
"Oh, Christian, I know when you're done coddling her, you will come back to me!" Darla spoke seductively, and ran her hand up and down her body.
While listening to each word she said, my fists began clenching and unclenching.
Does he always have sex with people, and then return to her? Or am I the exception? I wondered while shifting from one foot to the other.
Christian loosened his grip on my shoulder, and then walked to Darla, his face void of any emotions.
Once close enough, his eyes widened, and he clenched his fists. Anger started rising out of him.
"Darla, how dare you speak to my mate in that tone!" He declared, wagging his fin in her face.
Darla squinted her eyes, not ready to accept that he found me.
"Mate! That good for nothing is your mate!? Ha ha ha!" She screamed, disbelief and anger rising with each word.
As I watched the altercation between them, a small smile formed on my face.
I'm his? I never acknowledged that we could be mates. But now that I think about, the way to know you're mates is by your nose smelling your other half.
"Christian, what about the time when you told me that you never wanted to have a mate?" She snarled and started sliding her hand up and down his chest.
When she said, "He never wanted a mate," it was though I got a slap in the face. Did she say that to get a reaction out of me? Or did she only want to get under his skin?
Everything in me felt shattered. How could he do this? But I shouldn't be surprised, in fact, I should have expected this to happen.
A ping of jealousy and hurt flashed across my heart.
But before I could speak, a familiar voice spoke to me, quiet and calming. "Don't let her words get to you, Anabelle. You're stronger than that."
As I listened to each word my wolf said, I sighed. "Sarah, you're right. Yet, I don't know why you have finally decided to talk to me."
The last time I spoke to her was when I was a little girl. Then for twenty years, it was quiet. And now, I don't know what to think.
"I'm here because the Moon Goddess told me you would need help."
Moon Goddess? Nobody's wolf came back when the Moon Goddess was told, but mine did. How was that possible? I wondered while trying to gain an understanding of the situation.
"I can tell you're having a hard time believing this. But it's true." She spoke, her voice calm and collected.
The words lingered in my ear, and I silently nodded my head." Sarah, I want to head back. I must think this over before causing more chaos."
Right as Sarah was about respond, Christian leaned into my ear.
"Is everything okay? You look a little out of it." He whispered quietly.
Startled by his voice, I jumped back in shock. "Christian? I didn't realize you were speaking to me. I'm fine though."
He squinted his eyes to my response, studying my posture. Then after a few tense moments he spoke up once again. "If you went to go back and rest, you can. Don't worry about it."
"Don't worry about it? You know he says that to everyone, don't you? Oh wait, you do not." Darla screeched, as her irrationally loud voice piercing my ears.
While she kept screaming, I couldn't take it anymore. She had no right to talk to me like someone who is beneath her in the pack status. I was ready to confront and show my dominant side.
When I went to respond, Christian pushed me to the side without realizing it.
Then his clothing ripped in half, and his abs started gaining hair all over it. And I watched him transform into a majestic white wolf with green eyes.
