Chapter 21
Location: Wellington Mansion - Servants' Quarters
The hum of activity in the servants' quarters was beautiful adding to the serenity of the Wellington mansion. Located not too far from the main house, the quarters were modest and comfortable, housing the staff during the day before they retired to their homes at night.
However, today there was unease among the workers. Gossip floated from corner to corner, hushed tones filled with speculation. Bard, the mansion's longest employed gatekeeper, leaned against the wall of the quarters' entrance, his hollow eyes scanning the room as though he were searching for answers.
"Do you even think she knows?" said one of the maids in low tone.
"She obviously must suspect something," replied another, looking nervously toward the direction of the mansion. "I mean, how could she not?"
