Sophia's mind was racing with questions as she walked away from Alex. What did he really want? Was he genuinely trying to help her, or did he have a hidden agenda?
As she turned the corner onto her street, Sophia noticed a familiar figure waiting outside her apartment building. It was Rachel, looking anxious and worried.
"Sophia, I've been trying to reach you," Rachel said, rushing towards her. "I have some information about Ethan's business dealings. I think it could help you."
Sophia's ears perked up. "What kind of information?"
Rachel hesitated, glancing around nervously. "I'd rather not discuss it here. Can we go inside?"
Sophia nodded, leading Rachel into her apartment. As they sat down at the kitchen table, Rachel pulled out a folder filled with documents and photographs.
"What's all this?" Sophia asked, feeling a sense of trepidation.
Rachel took a deep breath. "It's evidence of Ethan's illegal business dealings. I've been investigating him for months, and I finally have enough proof to take him down."
Sophia's eyes widened. "Why are you telling me this? Why are you helping me?"
Rachel's expression was serious. "Because I know what it's like to be trapped in a toxic relationship. I know what it's like to feel powerless. And I want to help you take back control."
Sophia felt a lump form in her throat. She was touched by Rachel's kindness, but she couldn't shake the feeling that there was more to Rachel's story.
"What's your connection to Ethan?" Sophia asked, her eyes locked on Rachel's.
Rachel's expression faltered, and for a moment, Sophia saw a glimmer of something else - something that looked almost like fear.
"I'll tell you everything," Rachel said finally. "But you have to promise me one thing: you have to promise me you'll be careful."
