Sophia's eyes narrowed as she stared at Rachel. "What do you mean, 'be careful'?" she asked, her voice low and even.
Rachel hesitated, glancing around the room nervously. "I mean that Ethan is not to be underestimated. He's ruthless, Sophia. He'll stop at nothing to get what he wants."
Sophia felt a shiver run down her spine. She knew that Rachel was telling the truth. She'd seen Ethan's ruthlessness firsthand.
"But there's something more, isn't there?" Sophia asked, her eyes locked on Rachel's. "Something you're not telling me."
Rachel took a deep breath. "Yes, there is. Ethan's not just trying to win you back, Sophia. He's trying to destroy you. He's been manipulating people, using his wealth and influence to turn them against you."
Sophia's eyes widened in horror. "Who?" she demanded. "Who has he turned against me?"
Rachel's expression was grim. "Alex, for one. He's been working with Ethan all along, feeding him information about you."
Sophia felt like she'd been punched in the gut. She couldn't believe that Alex had betrayed her like that.
