Chapter 1 - The start of a long journey

Somewhere on the Straits of Algoni, Shade had decided to go to Southern Ergoth not only because it was the closest but also because she liked being alone. The only problem with that would be the humans. Humans have always been so self centered, rude, cruel and worst of all for her, hated elves.

(A/N: for people who didn't read the synopsis or don't play the game or didn't look at the cover, she's an elf.)

"How do I avoid humans" she whispered to herself in the boat she was currently using, it was slow but she liked that. it was comfortable for her just being able to lay down whenever she wanted and let the boat move however the water wanted. Sometimes she would fall asleep and wake up at night and sit there for a few seconds for her vision to adjust.

"I know, I could travel at night away from the towns or wherever those humans" She was interrupted by the boat coming onto land for the first time in ten days. Shade had become so lost in her thoughts that she completely forgot about why she was there in the first place.

Shade then slowly got to her feet. Despite her rest, she was surprisingly tired. When she looked at the land she realized she had made a big mistake, she was in a village.

"At least it's night" she thought. It was then when Shade realized she had no way to bring the boat with her.

After about half an hour of staring at the boat trying to figure out an efficient way to take it with her, she heard movement behind her. Shade quickly turned around to see what it was she heard. She saw a human man with light skin and long dark brown hair going down a bit further than his shoulders, she knew he had a decent build although she couldn't see it under his light brown cloths witch clearly had armor underneath them, he wore a belt which held his sheath with a long sword in it. The sword was the only thing on him that looked even remotely valuable, the sheath was made of silver with three black gems tightly fastened to it. The sword's handle was gold with the grip wrapped in red string lined with gold that gave off a soft, dim and warm glow. The hilt of the sword was made of a red gem veined and lined with gold again the gem was glowing.

"Hello" he whispered calmly.

"I've not seen an elf around here in a long time, about ten or fifteen years or so I'd say" again he whispered.

"who are you" she asked in a quiet voice even for the night.

"Well" he said, this time not whispering, "I don't know you yet, for now you can think of me as a friend".

"Well, friend" said Shade in a still quiet but more frustrated tone "is there any way for you to put out that light, it's much more difficult to see with it".

he chuckled and answered "No, and even if I could if I did it would be impossible for me to see".

"that would be great, then I could leave and not have to deal with you anymore" she said in a louder and more rude voice than before.

"So what is your name" he asked, seemingly ignoring what she had just said.

"Shade" she said turning left and looking back at him with an annoyed expression "Shade Wolf".

He nodded his head slowly as if he was thinking of something "And I am Windor Gold" he said "most people might hate elves but here" he stops trying to think of how many people don't hated elves "well at least I don't". He nods his head up and down once "you have a sword with you, do you know how to use it".

Shade pauses stunned for a second before slowly answering "yes".

Windor picks up that she is unsure and asks "Do you know the proper way to wield one in combat against another being whom also wields a sword".

Shade, not knowing of a way to twist those words to get away on her own replies "No" in an even softer voice than before.

"So I'm coming with you" he says "as long as you don't run away and get yourself killed, you'll surely live and even learn a thing or two on your journey".

"I don't know where I'm going" she tells him.

"what do you know" he asks.

"I'm following the coast" she replies. So she walks away and Windor followed just as he said.

Shade let go of all her frustration and headed South along the coast, her jet-black hair waving toward the water in the wind as they walked and followed the coast toward wherever it took them.
