Chapter 2: Captive (Ava's POV)
I woke in a dark, damp cellar. Kael loomed over me, his presence oppressive.
"Why did you attack my family?" I spat.
Kael's eyes narrowed. "You're a valuable prize, Ava. Your bloodline holds power."
I trembled, unsure what he meant. "What power?"
Kael's smile sent shivers down my spine. "You'll learn soon enough."
Days passed in a haze of fear and uncertainty. Kael's pack members taunted me, but he kept them at bay.
One evening, Kael brought me food and water. Our eyes met, and for a moment, I saw something akin to kindness.
(Kael's POV)
Memories haunted me—my own pack's rejection, the struggle to survive as a rogue.
Ava's defiance sparked something within me. I saw a glimmer of the strength I once knew.
Perhaps this captive could be more than just a pawn.
I recalled my own family, lost to the very pack Ava belonged to. Bitterness surged through me.
But Ava's spirit drew me in. I began to question my motives.
