Chapter 5: Moonlit Escape (Ava's POV)
Under the full moon, I felt restless. The pack's energies pulsed through me.
I saw my chance. While Kael and the others were distracted, I slipped away.
I wasn't confident in escaping because I didn't take my time to plan but what's done is done, I have to get out of here.
The forest beckoned, its darkness and freedom calling.
I ran.
My heart pounded.
The trees blurred.
But Kael caught me, his grip firm.
"Where do you think you're going?" he asked, his voice low.
"Nowhere," I lied.
Kael's eyes narrowed.
"Don't try that again," he warned.
I nodded.
But I knew I'd try again.
(Kael's POV)
Ava's escape attempt surprised me. I admired her spirit.
But I couldn't let her go. Not yet.
I took her to the pack's gathering hall. Ryker and the others waited.
"Ava needs to understand her place," I said, my voice firm.
Ryker sneered, but Ava stood tall.
"I won't be intimidated," she said.
Her defiance sparked something within me.
I wanted to protect her.
Not harm her.
