Chapter 16 - In the Back of My Mind

Angela's Point of View

There was silence in the car as Ian drove us at a moderate speed. He seemed like he didn't have a single sense of worry or urgency in his being.

I had been thinking he had to be a busy person, seeing just how rich he was. Perhaps there had been some sort of work he could have been in a hurry to get back to.

But there seemed to be none as he drove like he was trying to get a really good view of the city.

Surprisingly, I had been shoved in the back seat to watch him and Georgia struggle to spark up a conversation. It was quite hard for me to watch two grown-ups as they would occasionally throw glances at each other before they would look away again.

Like... what in the world was wrong with them? Why couldn't they just open up their mouths to speak?

I had been expecting the nice guy to say something at least as he had been acting all audacious and imposing just a few moments ago. But he had suddenly frozen.

"This part of town is really beautiful with a whole lot of sights to see, don't you think?" Ian finally broke the ice which had been over the conversation for quite a while.

"Oh... yeah..." Georgia seemed to have been absent-minded for a while before bringing herself back to the moment.

What a joke... I muttered in my head as I just couldn't wait for the ride to be over. But then, with the ride being over, I would be left to face my fate all alone at the Vix place.

I cringed a bit as I looked at the watch on my wrist. The lateness was alarming, but I had made my mind up to turn up regardless and plead with whoever the client was as I knew I would be in deep trouble if I got another bad review.

The thoughts of the trouble that I was in made me unable to enjoy the ride in that comfy car which was air-conditioned. I was unable to recall the last time I had ridden in such luxury before.

"Well... where do you both reside?" Ian asked with a rather formal tone which had me wondering if he had ever been with a lady in all his life.

I wasn't too proud of the part of town that we lived in, and that made me let her do the honors of telling him where it was while I still preserved what we left of my dignity.

I shut my ears as she said it. To my surprise, Ian wasn't as disappointed as I had expected him to be. That made me feel a bit uneasy as I was sure that Ian was possibly seeing us as some bunch of hungry and needy ladies looking for the next catch.

"Well... that's alright..." he said as he drove on. "It's pretty hard to see young ladies your age who are trying all they can to be independent."

I couldn't help but wonder if that was a genuine comment or if he meant the exact opposite of what he had just said to us. My insecure mind just wouldn't let me interpret things exactly as they were being said.

"Oh... we are here at the Vix place," Ian said as he immediately brought the car to a stop.

For a moment, he sounded like he was quite anxious to get rid of me in the vehicle so he could have all the free time that he wanted with my friend.

That made me a bit suspicious of him but then, I was sure that Georgia could take good care of herself no matter what. She was goofy, alright. But then, she was an adult as well. Of course, she was supposed to know just how to take care of herself.

"Yeah... right," I said with a nod as I was getting ready to plead with whoever was in charge of the reviews of the app that had given me the job. "Thank you so much..."

"You're welcome..." he said as he brought the car to a stop and was soon looking like he was glad to finally have me out of there. "Have a great day..."

"You too..." I let out as I was finally out of the vehicle. The rush was just too much as though I was being pushed out. But then, I was going to keep quiet about it until I got home from work that day.

Georgia waved at me as the car cruised away at a slow, steady speed. I was finally left to face my cruel fate as I was soon staring at the entrance of the Vix place. The majestic stencil art hanging over the door breathed nothing but elegance and class.

"Crap..." I cursed under my breath as I realized just how much I had messed it all up. That was probably the place with the big boys in town and that meant that I had an even wider range of running into someone who could change my life for good.

After taking in a deep breath, I breathed out and started walking towards the door. I had my breath taken away even more as I was finally seeing what the interior was like.

The white marble floors flawlessly reflected the magnificent light from the chandeliers in a way that made it all look heavenly.

"Are you Angela Galen ?" A voice questioned sharply while I was barely through the door.

Oh boy... I let out to myself under my breath.

"Yes, I am..." I mustered the courage to turn around and look at the man who was calling out to me.

His formal dress said a lot about his managerial role, besides the badge on his breast pocket that clearly read; Dave Hutch (Manager).

"I'm sorry I am showing up at this time... there was an accident..." I didn't let him finish before I started stating my reasons. "Please..."

"Get changed and get to work..." he said, pointing to a door that happened to lead me to the dressing room.

I quickly changed into formal attire like everyone else's and was soon on my way out of there.

Right when I stepped out, I saw him walking in right there and then.

"What the heck...?"
