Willam knew that life wasn't fair for everyone his social and financial status was a constant reminder of that. Today, though, might be the day his life could change. After winning a card game, Willam had managed to get a ticket to board a new ship that would sail from England to the United States.
The land of the free—or whatever everyone was calling it lately.
This was like a dream, and willam was determined to hold it tight and not let go.
It was an afternoon on the deck. William was sitting, his sketchbook on his lap, pencil in hand. A few people were walking around the lower deck. A father held his daughter affectionately. A few rich young women stood among themselves. And on the upper deck…
Wow?
William's breath caught for a moment, his eyes fixed on… someone.
It was a guy, probably close in age to him. He was wearing professional 19s high clothes, however, that their social classes were probably different. William feels like he has heard someone talking about him, a young man who was making the trip to America to marry a girl there.
He was staring at the horizon, William noticed. Staring so intently, as if he were lost in thought.
william was so mesmerized. 'What are you thinking? Tell me your thoughts...'
He doesn't even realize it, but he starts to make a sketch of the scene, his eyes alternating between the mysterious man and the paper. Such beauty needed to be recorded on paper, after all.
Henry had lost himself in his own thoughts, looking out at the horizon. The ocean was calm. The ship sailed smoothly, everything was perfect. Why was his stomach full of knots, then?
He doesn't have any answer to that. All he knew was that the closer he got to his destination, the more his mind filled with doubts.
Unconsciously, he grips the railing, knuckles going white from the force. And then… he feels a gaze. That sensation of someone watching him. He looks around, and meets eyes staring back.
William was caught in the act, feeling a wave of heat spreading over his face. He swallows hard, trying to find the courage to keep the eye contact. But the other man doesn't seem bothered, he doesn't look away either. Instead, slowly, a smile forms on his lips. Oh, that smile. William felt like he wanted to capture that moment and keep it with him in a safe forever.
But then…
A young woman's voice rang out behind william, causing him to whip his head around.
"Huh??" William muttered to himself in his British accents.
