Chapter 5 - The City That Never Sleeps!

'If they find out I am an alien, will they kill me or experiment on me?'

Arohan thought fearfully as the projection began to play his life on earth. At the same time, he also felt slightly emotional since he could see his parents.

The creature was intently focusing on the projection. Suddenly, its eyes began to bleed while the projection started to flicker, and not long after, it completely faded after exploding silently into dots of lights.

While this was happening, Arohan felt his chest getting extremely heated, and at the same time, he could feel some pain.

Only when the projection disappeared did the pain disappear, while his shirt had a burnt hole in it, and through it, his burnt skin could be seen.

The creature's eyes also stopped bleeding, and six of its seven pupils had dimmed to white, making it seem that it only had one pupil but was randomly placed.

"Human from another plane, what brings you here?"

This time, Arohan could clearly understand what the creature meant since the language was the same as his native tongue on Earth.

He was confused at first, but then breathed a sigh of relief, and then his heart was again filled with confusion.

From the creature's statement, it was clear that his identity as the alien wasn't hidden. There was no special reaction to that, so it could only mean one thing, aliens weren't rare in this world.

At the same time, he remembered the scene of the creature bleeding, and the burnt injury was still there on his chest, so it might also have been due to that special orb that helped him.

"No purpose!"

Arohan honestly responded. He didn't even know anything and was completely in the dark, so how could he have any special purpose for entering the city? If there was another city in place of this one, he would have entered that one.

The creature fell silent, and the only orange pupil left in its eye began to glow brightly, and a few moments later, it returned to normal.

The creature didn't speak anything else and walked to the door and merged into the place where its mural was.

Rumble!

Suddenly, a rumbling sound rang and the earth began to shake. Arohan seemed to have a trauma associated with that, so he immediately tried to run but stopped when he found that the source of the shaking was the opening of the gigantic doors.

At first, it was very slow, but suddenly, it turned rapid and slammed on the edges of the gate, showing the city from the outside.

Arohan took a deep breath filled with awe as if he seemed to have traveled to ancient past.

Ancient buildings and crowds of people could be seen from the outside, but no one seemed to have noticed the sound of the door opening, so not even a single living being was looking in his direction.

Arohan didn't know what to do when suddenly an invisible force pushed him inside the gate. The next moment, he seemed to have passed through some invisible membrane and appeared in the same place as the crowd.

The people on the road immediately stopped what they were doing and focused on the stranger who suddenly popped out. Almost everyone had expressions of shock on their faces.

What Arohan didn't know was that the gate through which Arohan entered the city was the most special gate in the city and not just anyone could enter through it.

The people that could enter through the gate could be counted on one hand despite the overly large population of the city.

[Welcome to Trita, the city that never sleeps!]

Arohan was confused when suddenly a familiar voice rang in his ears. It belonged to that single-eye creature.

'The city that never sleeps?'

Arohan curiously thought in his heart since it could mean in a literal sense. On Earth, there were several cities that were called such, but they were called not because people didn't sleep there, but because of the vibrant night culture and there being no specific difference between how the city worked in the day or the night.

He was in a special world, and it could mean in a literal sense, but he couldn't think about it for long as he found himself getting surrounded by the people on the road.

He couldn't help but try to back away but found an invisible wall behind him restricting any backing movement.

He looked panicked and tried to call out the orb as it had been saving him before things got ugly, but there was no response and the first person finally reached him.

He could see the lips moving and the garbled sound, but he couldn't understand what the man was trying to speak. It was a different language than the one spoken by the strange creatures on the murals.

The overwhelming majority on the street was human with there being one or two creatures that looked different. If Arohan had time, he would have tried to think about them, but unfortunately, he was worried about himself and didn't have time to be curious about others.

"Move away. The city supervisory department is here!"

A loud voice suddenly rang on the street. Arohan couldn't understand it but he saw that the people stopped moving toward him after that. They then began to back away with hints of fear on their faces.

Arohan who should have felt relieved by the people backing away began panicking even more after seeing that. He was already afraid of the people on the street, so how could he not be fearful of those who made the people on the street afraid?

A/N: I have always struggled difficulties in naming people(both female and male) and places for some reason, so if you have good names for major characters and cities, please comment.

At this point, Arohan is still an ordinary human in the supernatural world, but soon he will step into that path and the readers will learn about the power system of the story.

I have taken inspirations from both western and eastern light novels as well as some of my ideas, and if you also have ideas about these things, please comment. I'll be grateful.
