When they were a long distance away from all the hullabaloo, Abigail cornered her. "Okay! What's wrong, spill."
"Nothing. I was just feeling emotional since everything had worked out so well." Eunice smiled wryly. "Not that, I meant what happened at the celebration yesterday? You called me so late at night..." she tried to jog her friend's memory. "Oh, that! Actually..." Eunice had no choice but to completely reveal to her what happened at the gathering. "...So that's it, that's why I called you yesterday." Eunice concluded with a sigh of frustration. Abigail had her hands over her mouth the whole time to prevent herself from screaming. "So you mean he was actually there, and you boldly walked up to him and said all those things?" She still couldn't believe Eunice had done something this bold. "Yeah." Eunice replied. "And he didn't say anything offensive or seem to hold a grudge against you?" Abigail asked with an eyebrow raised. "No!" Eunice was getting frustrated. She had just explained the whole incident to her. Why was she still asking these irrelevant questions. "Well, it wasn't like you didn't expect to run into him sooner or later. This is just too much!" She tried to process her thoughts.
"I only made such a bold move because I wanted to show those loose-mouthed socialists that I had no attachment to my past life, and I had moved on. I honestly didn't expect Marcus to react that way, I half expected a tantrum, really." She reasoned. "Well, it all worked out in the end, I hope you weren't too shaken up. If I had known that was the case, I would have rushed to your place yesterday. I'm sorry, Eunice!" Abigail felt extremely guilty she had not been able to be there for her best friend, especially when she had needed her so much. "Eh! It's not your fault why you are apologising? You were busy with other matters. I shouldn't have bothered you like that." Eunice countered. "No way, the next time you don't feel good, call me, don't hesitate, okay?"
They were still in the middle of their girls heart to heart talk when someone rudely called from behind. "Hey, we're about to make a toast. If you're done with your couple's argument, please grace us with your presence." Only one person within the company would dare to talk to them both in that manner. "You brat, I'm coming, alright!" Abigail puffed her cheeks in anger and chased Damien back inside.
"To our ultra pretty and magnificent boss who brought us to where we are today!" Damien spoke at the top of his lungs. He made a toast to Eunice, and everyone cheered merrily. "Hey, is that a toast or an air raid siren? You don't have to be so loud." Abigail began to banter with Damien again. Eunice finally let go of her worries and stress and joined in the well-deserved celebrations. "Tommorow, I'm giving everyone a day off, take your time and enjoy with your family and friends." Eunice announced, and a cheer erupted among the staff. "Hip, hip, hurray for the best boss ever."
"Hip, hip hurray!" The celebrations continued well into the night.
Since she had given herself and everyone else a day off, she decided to head over to the gym on the ground floor. Back in the UK, she had regularly taken walks, cycled, and habitually went to the gym even though they didn't really seem to value beauty standards as much.
But when she came back in order to avoid meeting or bumping into anyone she knew, she only did some light exercises in her apartment and avoided going out, which would draw attention. But now that she had already gained exposure, she needed to start her regular exercise to maintain her perfect figure. Especially since in Country C, beauty standards were highly considered. Although she had a metabolism that prevented her from gaining much weight, her stamina had decreased while her stress levels increased, and exercise was a good way to correct them both. She hummed a soft tune while she headed to the gym in her sports wear.
"Gosh, isn't that Eunice Parker?"
"Yes, it is. Does she live here?"
Eunice noticed a few people recognised her, so she gave them a bright smile. They gasped and tried to take some shots. Thank goodness this was a high-profile gym. Many celebrities came here often to work out, so the security was tight. The security guards blocked the women and shooed them off.
After a good workout, Eunice drank some water from her Stanley Cup and sat on the bench to take a breather. She was scrolling through her phone when someone approached her. "Hi! Miss Eunice, you remember me, right?" The woman extended her hand for a handshake. Eunice looked up at her and squinted her eyes, trying to figure out the person's identity. "Hmm, I'm Elanor from Channel One." She decided to spare Eunice the confusion.
"Yeah, I remember you." Channel One was the same station where Eunice had announced her retreat from the acting scene, and Elanor was the host at the time, throwing touchy questions at her just to create more news and gain extra views. "Miss Eunice, I'll cut to the chase. I recently heard you were back to Contry C but kept a low profile. You recently made an astonishing return to the scene, and I was hoping for an exclusive interview." She placed her offer on the table. Eunice just stared at her incredulously. Was this woman dense, or was she deliberately trying to annoy her? Either way, it wasn't going to end well.
Eunice was just about to shut her down when it suddenly hit her. She could use this as an advantage to her instead. Her eyes lit up and she gave the sweetest smile she could muster to Elanor. "Sure, just tell me the place and when, I'll definitely be there!" Elanor smiled as well but cackled to herself.
