When Eunice finally got back home, she was dead tired. She didn't even bother with dinner and jumped straight into bed. This was how she liked it. Back in Europe, she'd work herself to the point of exhaustion so she'd be out cold when she went to bed. It would make her impossible to have any dreams, especially those recurring nightmares. However, this particular night, Eunice had an unusual dream.
"Mom, I'm on my way back... I'll be there soon! Yes... I'm just a few blocks away... bye!" Young Eunice Parker was rushing home from school. It was just after 10 p.m., and the night was especially cool and dark on that particular day. The final exams were coming up, and she stayed back late to do more studying since the moment she got back home, all the chores would have been piled up waiting for her. She hung up on her nagging mother and wasn't particularly in a good mood.
Tsk, her little brother was home. Why couldn't he take up some of those chores. Her mother's lack of concern was extremely infuriating. Instead of worrying about her, she had rather called to ask her to come back home and do the chores before heading to bed. She asked who Eunice was expecting to do them if she stayed in school to study all day. She placed the old model flip phone back into her school bag and began to pick up the pace. The night felt strangely quiet and eerie. This was usually a busy area since there was a night market nearby, but today, it seemed there was barely anyone out tonight. At this point, she began to run, it would be bad if anything were to happen to her here in this empty street. Suddenly, a very luxurious looking car shot passed her. It was Peugot, a very trendy and expensive car back then. Eunice scrunched her face in disgust. It was probably some rich 3rd generation heir goofing of on the street judging by the speed at which it was moving. Upon closer scrutiny, she realised something was wrong, very wrong. The car was headed straight for a stall that was positioned too close to the road. Within a fraction of a second, the car had crashed into the stall. "Hey!" Eunice rushed towards the crash site. Although the car wasn't that badly mangled, it had sustained some serious damage to the front. "Hello, is anyone in there?!" She knocked on the tinted windows of the car violently. She tried to open the door, but it was locked. Fear began to grip her. She quickly took out her phone and dailed 911. "Hello -" The operator began, but Eunice was too anxious to wait for the person to speak. "Hello, there's been a car accident on Aki Street in City Z. Please get an ambulance as well!" The operator informed her that they would arrive soon and ask about the state of the situation. She frantically explained what was going on and urged for them to hurry. She continued to try unlocking the door and continued to yell for the passengers inside. "Clunk!" She heard the car doors finally unlock, and the driver fell out of the car. He had sustained serious injuries on the head and wasn't breathing properly. She managed to help him carefully move away from the wrecked vehicle. "Sir! Sir! Are you alright?" There was a slight quiver in her voice. The man suddenly jolted awake and pushed her aside, trying to crawl back to the car. Eunice tried to stop him, but he began to shake his head violently. She noticed very quickly that something was wrong. Was there someone else in the car? "Mister, is someone else in there?" She grabbed him by the collar and asked, trying to get him out of his frenzied state. "Madam... Madam!" His voice called out weakly as he gestured to the backseat of the now smoking car. So there was someone else inside! Quickly, she rushed to the car and opened the door to the backseat, and sure enough, there was an unconscious woman laying there. Her seat belt was still fastened, and her legs were trapped between the front and back seats of the car. "Ma'am! Ma'am! Can you hear me?!" She tapped on the woman's arm. "What... happened?" She groggily spoke as she regained consciousness. "You were just involved in a car accident. Can you move? You need to get out. The police are on their way."
"No, I can't, my legs!" The woman tried to free her legs, but she was trapped, and moving came with excruciating pain. Eunice helped her unfasten her seat belt and assessed the situation. Judging by the way the front seat had collapsed on her leg, it would be impossible to just pull her out. The seat needed to be moved instead. She tried using her hands, but it wouldn't budge.
Unfortunately, the stall they had crashed into was a barbecue stall. "Who knew the fuel the owner used was stored in a glass bottle hidden under the stall compartment. Neither person realised the fuel was leaking under the car. While Eunice was still trying to free the lady, she began to smell fuel. Horrified, she realised it would just be a matter of time before the whole car caught fire and exploded. She honestly didn't know where her sudden adrenaline rush came from, but she began to suddenly deliver fervent and strong kicks to the seat. When it finally gave away, Eunice dragged the woman out quickly. The car immediately caught fire after that. It was then that people began to come out of their houses to see what was going on. "Help someone the car is about to explode!" She yelled while dragging the lady as far as she could. Many burly men then realised what was happening and helped carry the lady and driver away from the burning vehicle just in the nick of time before the car exploded.
Earlier, when she yelled out that the car would explode, many people began to run in the opposite direction, saving then any injuries but since Eunice and the other men that had come to their aide where too close to the car they sustained many injuries but no one got killed or sustained life threatening injuries that day thanks to Eunice's brave acts...
