Chapter 13 - Chapter 13 - Godmother

"Hmph, I'm the patients mother. You dare not to let me in?" Mrs Parker had just been informed that Eunice was awake. She came to tell her to quickly leave the hospital since she wouldn't pay a dime for the bills but was stopped by some bodyguards from entering the ward.

"I'm sorry ma'am, but you can't go in there now."

"Huh, why? That's my daughter's ward. You have no right to stop me from going in!" What exactly was going in there? Why couldn't she enter. "Mrs Crestwood would like to have a private conversation with your daughter." The bodyguard didn't even look at her but simply blocked her with his arm. "What?!" Mrs Parker stumbled and nearly fell. Did she hear right. When she had been previously informed about Eunice's incident, she rushed over to where she had been admitted. When she realised this hospital was the largest in T City, fear gripped her. There was no way medical bills here would be cheap or affordable in the slightest especially for people of their social status. She asked one of the caretakers why Eunice was brought here instead of a closer and simpler hospital. She was then told that the person who Eunice had rescued was a bigshot and insisted Eunice be provided with the best medical care. She was temporarily relieved, and after finding out that she had only sustained some minor injuries, she left for home to look after her only son.

When Eunice had not been discharged early enough the next day, she was sure the lass was trying to slack off by staying in such an expensive place. Haughtily, she came here and was prepared to drag her back home. Who would have thought that the person her busybody daughter had saved was the Madam of the Crestwood family. She must have done something good in her past life to have such a capable daughter.

She immediately demanded to be let in, who knows what benefits she could gain from her. The body guard still refused to let her in, and so she began to cause a ruckus outside, claiming that some rich folks were trying to harm her daughter. The noise drew a lot of attention and was very annoying. Exasperated, the bodyguard let her in to avoid disturbing the other patients and staff at the hospital. When Mrs Parker saw that the bodyguard had made way for her, she scoffed triumphantly and swung the doors open.

True enough, Susan Crestwood was calmly seated in a wheelchair having a cheerful conversation with her daughter, Eunice.

"My poor child!" She ran to Eunices' side and began hugging her tightly. "You must have been so scared." She put up the act of the perfect mother. "Madam Crestwood." She bowed in greeting. Susan raised an eyebrow at the strange lady who smelled of onions and spices. "I'm this brave girl's mother. It's an honour to meet you." She grinned from ear to ear. It wasn't every day that you got to meet a member of such an outstanding family. She could just picture the faces of envy on her freinds and neighbours' faces when she tells them that her daughter had saved the Madam of the Crestwood family from death.

"Ay, yes, I was just thanking your daughter here for saving my driver and I. My family is truly forever in your family's debt." She smiled at them both.

Aiyoo, the Crestwood family, is in the debt of her family. This was too good to be true.

"Well, yes, my daughter is very capable." She began to praise her daughter to new heights.

Eunice frowned. What was her mother doing, and why was she acting so humble and praising her all of a sudden.

"I know nothing I could ever do to repay her is enough. Therefore, I would like to start by offering her a full scholarship to any college of her choice!" Susan announced.

"No, that's too much, really I-"

"Gosh, Madam Crestwood is too benevolent. What can we say. Thank you very much for helping us this way." Mrs Parker smiled in gratitude and turned to glare ferociously at her own daughter. What was she thinking interjecting like that? Had she gone mad? Or did the blast affect her thinking capabilities?

If Eunice got that scholarship the secret college fund set up by her late husband, Eunice's father would go to her. She'd naturally use it to make life better for her son and herself.

Susan was perplexed at the two contrasting characters of the mother daughter duo. One was humble and selfless, and the other was haughty and had a calculating look in her eyes. If not for the strong resemblance in the two, she would never believe they were mother and daughter.

Anyway, it was good that Mrs Parker had accepted the offer on Eunice's behalf. She would naturally go on to give her a comfortable life.

A few weeks later, Eunice had been long discharged she was still studying when she received a call from Susan briefing her on how matters had developed. Apparently, the driver had been drugged, but the culprit had been found and imprisoned. Susan and Eunice formed a great bond over the years. She even met with Dominic Crestwood, the Master of the Crestwood household. Susan's husband. He had also come to express his gratitude to her and had showered her with many gifts. Soon, she was known by all as 'little hero' and their family's reputation in the community soared to new heights. Her relationship with her mom also improved a lot. She left for the big city to attend the best performing arts college, Dreamer and Star Arts College, where Susan had rented an apartment for her. As much as she didn't really like living of the Crestwood family, she had come to truly regard Susan as a mother figure and even became her goddaughter so she just took it as a lucky strike and went with the flow and ignored everything else.
