Chapter 12 - Chapter 12 - Events

When Eunice woke up the next morning, she chuckled in spite. That dream was a memory of an old time past. She would never regret saving Susan that night, but the events afterwards led to her horrible and miserable life. She couldn't help but recall the sequence of events that occurred after that incident...

Eunice ended up being sent to the hospital along with the lady and bodyguard. The other men that had come to their rescue had superficial wounds and were treated when the police and ambulance finally arrived. But Eunice had passed out from shock and exhaustion, so she was also brought along to the hospital. She woke up the next morning in an expensive looking hospital ward. Unlike the other hospitals she had visited before, this one didn't have the stench of antiseptic and other chemicals. This one smelt very nice, and it was almost as if she was in a hotel suit.

Before this, she could only see such hospital wards in movies and dramas. She almost forgot how sore she was all over. She couldn't particularly feel her left leg either, but after making sure it was still there, she heaved a sigh of relief. Her head was pounding, and the events of the past night flooded back. She jolted upright and called for a doctor. "Miss, how are you feeling?" A nurse who was assigned to her room came into the ward.

"I'm okay. May I ask if the lady and the driver in the car accident are alright?"

"Yes, they are thanks to you. The driver has been discharged, and the lady is still recovering."

Eunice sighed with relief. Earlier, when she had saved those two, her mind had been all over the place. All she could think about was saving them both, but she had forgotten about her own safety. A few more doctors and nurses came to check up her. Apparently, she had managed to develop a tear in her left leg. It was this same leg that she used to kick off the collapsed car seat. At the time of the incident, she hadn't felt a thing due to all the adrenaline, but her leg was now inflamed and had been propped up. The nurse brought her some food, and the hospital treatment was impeccable. This made her worry very much.

"Doc, does my family know I'm here. To be honest, I don't really think we could afford the treatment, so it would be better if I could recuperate at home instead.

Eunice knew that the longer she stayed here, the higher the fees for the treatment would become. Her mom would never be able to cough up a large amount to settle the dues. "Ah, your mother was here a while ago, but she said she had yo leave to go take care of your brother. She'll be back when you're ready to be discharged." The nurse felt embarrassed having to tell the poor girl that her mother had left as soon as she saw that Eunice wasn't that badly injured. She had given the excuse that her son was home alone, so she had to go and look after him. Puzzled, she asked for the age of the boy and was stunned when the woman proudly said "17". Didn't most mothers usually stay with their injured children throughout the night? Eunice didn't look

the least bit surprised . She rolled her eyes and sighed exasperated. Her mother didn't want to pay the hospital bill, and since Eunice was an adult and had some money stored away, she expected her to use that. "Eunice then gulped. "Doc, I'm really serious. This hospital seems too expensive, and I might not be able to pay for the expenses." She wanted to leave as soon as possible. "Don't worry, kid, the woman you saved last night was the Madam of the Crestwood family. This hospital is under their name, so you don't have to worry about paying a thing." The doctor smiled at her.

This young lady must have probably done a great deed in her past life to end up saving the most benevolent socialite in Country C. Just as they were talking, the lady from the accident was wheeled in. "Miss Susan." The doctors all bowed deeply in greeting her. Eunice could only slightly bow her neck. The woman in front of her had a powerful aura. She had an aristocratic air around her, and even though she was in a wheelchair and both of her legs were bandaged up, the elegance she exuded was not diminished in the slightest. She was wheeled closer to Eunice's bed. "My dear, how are you doing? Does it still hurt anywhere?" Her voice was as smooth as a nightingale singing on a tree top. Eunice resolved to become just like this lady when she grew up. She was extremely caring, and the doctors all respected her. "Yes, Miss, I'm alright. It doesn't hurt that much, actually."

"Goodness dear, you don't have to put up a strong front with me." The lady shook her head in amusement.

"I'm serious. My leg just feels a bit stiff, that's all." She didn't want the nice lady to feel indebted to her.

Susan dismissed the doctors and nurses from the room. "I don't really know how to thank you, young lady. You put your own life at risk to save my driver and I. The Crestwood family owes you a lot. We will forever be in your debt." The lady grabbed her hands and spoke solemnly.

"No, no, it wasn't that big of a deal, really. I just did what anyone else would have done in that situation." How could the most powerful family in Country C be in her debt? Wasn't that too scary? The lady chuckled. She liked the humble nature of the young lass. She was incredibly pretty, too. A thought suddenly came to mind. "You're 18, right? Are you still in school?" Susan asked.

"Yes, I'm sitting for the final exam in a month." Eunice answered the questions truthfully.

"Hmm, do you have any college in mind after school?"

Euniced turned red in embarrassment. She had not been able to save up enough funds for performing arts college. She was actually planning on giving up the idea for a while and was going to work for a couple of years.

Susan saw the embarrassment and discomfort on the girls face and realised the situation at hand. She was just about to say something when Eunice's mom suddenly barged in.
