Chapter 1 - PROLOGUE

- [October 31st, 1969] Friday / Location: 22 the Sorrels, England -

Late at night, it was cold and windy, in the neighbouring area of 22 the Sorrels. Halloween night had ended, which meant parents and their children went back home, to count the amounts of candy they'd collected through the night. The streets were empty, and all was to be heard was the strong winds, and noises of the neighbourhood trees, as they raked, making the autumn leaves fall; hitting the surfaces of every concrete floor and sidewalk. It all seemed so quiet, 'another usual day in the calming neighbourhood of Sorrels' — one would say. Nothing out of the ordinary. But then moments later — suddenly appeared out of thin air — a cloaked woman. Covering her face and her entire appearance. And what she was carrying in her arms was a baby.Alongside her was a cloaked tall thin older man, with mid-silver hair, as well as a beard, whose length met close to his mid hair; that was the same length as his silver hair.As they walked the sidewalk, in pure silence. The cloaked older man broke the silence, as he felt a bit uneasy about whatever was happening, of what they were about to do. "Are you sure that this is a good idea? I know these people, I've known them for years and they are kind youngsters that I've watched over since their school years... But are you quite so sure that... maybe you can entrust the child to me?"He then asked if the woman knew what she was doing, if 'what' he was doing was the right choice. He turned to the cloaked woman, where he then nodded; as to let her know that 'this' was the choice that she had to make. Whether it was 'right' or 'wrong'.She wanted to help the cloaked older man, as she wanted to be sure that the child was to be safe somewhere else as well as in someone's care. Since it was the only way for the baby to be safe from danger.Still hesitant about the whole situation she was in. But with no other choice she had, she then asked the older man again. That if she truly trusted him enough to allow themselves to leave the baby in the care of some random strangers. The older man looked at the cloaked woman, and came closer to her, as he spoke with such a calming voice."These people... I know, you've known them since their youth. That they are a kind and loving married couple. But like some married couples, they want to start a family. And these people have also yearned desperately for a child. But unfortunately, that day never came." She told the cloaked older man, her voice filled with sorrow and understanding. "But... this child... will surely be their beacon in their lives and will grant them their beautiful wish."He didn't speak but understood what the woman had said, but also wanted to be clear of the choices she was making, and to ensure that it wouldn't affect his decisions. She sees him struggling, as he is trying to accept all of this. And so to assure him that everything was going to be alright, she placed a kiss on his forehead. With the light kiss on his forehead, it showed images as well as visions. On which it fore-showed everything the older man saw, and what he needed to know of the child and for the woman's decision.A tear escaped his eye, after seeing the child's past, and that she indeed needed to be with the people that they were delivering her to. And that he immediately understood and finally agreed with the woman, accepting her decision to deliver the baby girl to his old students, the Spencers. As he now knew what to do, even if it would leave greater consequences later, and in the near future. The two proceeded with their walk, as they finally made a stop, and came upon an ordinary-looking family home.Once they were walking towards the front door, nearly knocking over a family of three cute decorated Jack-o-Lanterns, by the entrance. The woman flicked her wrist in thin air, and a basket suddenly appeared before her. With it, she placed the baby in the basket and laid her on the front doorstep — as well as placing a letter, tucked in, on the baby's blanket. Before leaving, she kneeled, to talk to the sleeping baby in a teary yet hushed voice, trying her best to not show any emotion but failed to do so. "I-I am so sorry –— please... please be safe". Before finally spreading a single tear as she said those last words, almost sounding as if they were never to see each other again.Then... soon after, she disappeared — leaving only the older man behind with the baby. After seeing the letter the woman behind, he then thought of also leaving something behind as well. As he conjured up a quill and a piece of parchment with the flick of his wrist and started writing something on the small piece of parchment. He folded the written parchment and then placed the letter tucked in with the baby, just like the woman did.Later knocking on the front door, waiting patiently for someone to respond, but also waiting for the baby's side in case someone didn't show up at such a late hour.Once he heard someone coming towards the door as well as hearing them turn their doorknob — he too disappeared.Soon after, a large woman opens the door. Wondering who could've been knocking on the door at such a late hour. Seeing there was no one around, she slowly started closing the door. But before fully closing the door, and heading back inside, she looked down and noticed a baby right in front of her as she heard the baby make a small noise.Alarmed as she was to find a baby at her doorstep, she quickly took the baby in. As she picked up the sleeping infant with such careful ease as not to wake the baby. But the sudden movements made the baby wake up, shortly after the baby started crying for a brief moment, until finally calming down.Once she brought the baby into her home. The baby was taken in by a tall middle-aged woman with thin, straight, dark brown hair and blue eyes; she was described to be a plumed woman with a crooked snub-shaped nose. And for some strange reason? She seemed to be wearing makeup, almost too much makeup, during sleeping hours. Probably was makeup that she put on for Halloween and was about to wash it off before answering the door. The middle-aged woman then saw both letters tucked in on the baby's blanket, and she opened it as it read:'Dear Mr. and Mrs. Spencer, It is with great sadness that I must inform you of the death of this young child's parents. They were murdered by a close relative/colleague of mine. I tried my best to protect them.... To save them. But, I regret to say that, with all my efforts, I failed. Please take good care and watch over their daughter.'Lila' — 'Cynder' — 'Evie'.Who was born today in their home. I would gladly watch over her, myself. But I'm afraid she is not safe with me. Which is why I left her here in your care.~ Sincerely, H D'"HD? Who is HD?" Questioned and muttered Mrs. Spencer's. She then put the letter away and took a quick look at the baby to see if she was alright, and saw that she was almost as cold as ice; due to being outside. As worried as she was for the baby, she immediately hurried to wrap her up in a warmer blanket and made sure to light up the chimney, to warm up the baby girl — as well as change her into warmer clothes.Once uncovering the baby of her thin clothes and unwrapping the thin baby blanket. She saw that the baby had beautiful white silver platinum hair; hair as almost as white as the glistening white snow. Her eyes were a beautiful lilac-blue colour — she had fair skin with light rosy cheeks. Mrs. Spencer has never seen a baby this beautiful, even bearing such strikingly beautiful hair and eyes.As Mrs. Spencer was done changing the baby into her new clothes — she saw how tired the baby was and rocked her to sleep. As she was rocking the baby to sleep, with her free hand, she went ahead to read the other letter that was left with the baby. She wanted to know more about the person who had left the baby at their doorstep and to know more about the baby's background."You are now a family. Continue making the family grow.~ Deborah"Once the baby was finally fast asleep — Mrs. Spencer smiled at the letter, knowing the sender of the letter, and of his sweet kind words. She then smiled down at the sleeping baby. Happy by the bittersweet moment, as she and her husband wanted to start a family even trying so many times, but had no luck. But now, they were blessed with a baby, a baby that they could call and treat as their very own. And that of course, she couldn't help but cry tears of happiness. She muttered to herself in a low soothing voice; to not wake the baby."Lila, huh? *Sniff!* What a beautiful name! Such a pretty girl you are! *Sniff!*" She whispered to the baby, happily and tearfully."Who is it, honey? *Yawn!* More trick-or-treaters? " A man said tiredly, as he called out from upstairs.
