- [July 18th, 1982] Sunday (10 am in the morning) -
"Alright girls! Make sure to eat all your breakfast! We leave in a few minutes, for church. You know how I want us to get there early." Olga said cheerly, yet hastily — while downing the plate of eggs and sausages, before her. She covered herself with a tablecloth over her neckline, so as not to get her floral immodest church dress; which showed more of her cleavage.
"We know." Both twins said flatly in unison, already finished with their breakfast. Both Sandy and Daisy were neatly dressed in such nice clothes for mass. Dressed in similar dresses, but both in different colours. Daisy was dressed in a blush pink floral print dress, while Sandy was in her lovely bluebelle blue floral print dress.
Both twins got up from the dining table, taking their plates to the kitchen to clean them. Olga stops them from their tracks, and tells them in a polite-like way.
"Oh, girls — if you're done, just leave your plates on the table. I'd hate to have both of your lovely dresses being left wet and filthy. Evie will take care of those for you — won't you Evie, it is your job after all? I mean, it's the least you could do. After all, I work very hard, providing for your lazy arse to stay at home all day." She told the twins and Lila.
Lila was washing the pans and utensils from earlier as well as the mountains of dirty dishes that had been in Olga's room, almost for a while now. Still having some mold as well as some sprouts on them, hinting that a few of the dirty dishes hadn't been washed for almost a month now.
"Oh yeah — how could I forget that I do all the cleaning, cooking and all the housework. While you hardly show up for work, and always watching tv all day, and bringing people over. Than taking care of your own kids, which is also the other thing I do — taking care of my own little sisters. Yeah, I'm clearly the lazy one." Lila mumbled to herself, as she rolled her eyes at the obnoxious thought of what Olga stated.
Luckily, Olga didn't hear what she said; since she mostly mumbled hushly, as if a whisper. Besides, Lila just wanted to focus on cleaning, then have Olga angry and violent so early in the morning. She also didn't want her sisters to witness such an act either, and just wanted them to just head to mass without all this drama.
Both Sandy and Daisy didn't feel that their older sister should clean their plates for them, and wanted to lessen her workload; since they knew that she had a lot to do today, like she usually did — while they were away for mass.
But both wanted to ask Olga if they should stay to help their sister out. Both not sure what would happen if they did though. But they went ahead to ask.
"Um… actually. We thought that maybe we should stay and-" Both twins uttered nervously in unison, Olga immediately interrupted them; the moment they mentioned that they didn't want to attend church and stay at home instead.
"Excuse me!?!" She snarled at the two, while glaring at the twins. As if a predator was looking down on its prey. The girls quivered in fear, and were left speechless. "Do you two not want to enter the temple of God? Do you two want to stay here with that fucking witch, so that you could rot and burn in the pits of hell?!?" Olga exclaimed, scaring both Sandy and Daisy — not letting the two talk even once.
"N-no,… we just-" Both Sandy and Daisy choked on their words, not knowing what to say.
Luckily Lila spoke for them. "It's okay Olga. Sandy and Daisy just wanted to stay home today, is all."
"Who the fuck asked you? Take these plates back to the kitchen and get back to your chores. And you two, are coming with me to church — whether you both like it or not." Olga barked at Lila and argued with both twins.
"O-okay *Sniff!*" Both Sandy and Daisy weeped, while both nodded.
Lila went over to the table, to fetch the dirty plates. Olga immediately plants her already finished plate on top of the other plates that Lila was carrying. Olga shooed her away, gesturing with her hand — telling her to leave and head back to the kitchen.
Lila rolled her eyes and made a 'face' at Olga, as she made her way back to the kitchen, to clean Olga's and her twin sister's dishes.
Olga didn't notice Lila making a face and rolling her eyes at her, but her sisters did — both of them lightly snickered at the scene, and were getting a bit better from Olga's outburst.
Olga wondered as she looked at the giggling teary eyed twins, of what was so funny? But both twins shook their heads in unison, both telling her that it was nothing.
Lila finished washing her sisters dishes, and left them by the counter to dry. Then she heard Olga and her sisters leave as they got up from the table and headed straight to the door.
But before heading out. Olga bragged to the two girls on how she surprisingly got paid at work for doing such an amazing job. Even if she rarely shows up and usually leaves work. And tells them that once mass is over, she will be taking her and the twin girls to some place to eat something very delicious. The twins wanted Lila to go as well, and asked Olga if she could join them.
Olga immediately told the twin girls some obnoxious excuse; telling them that Lila couldn't, since she was very busy with everything she needed to do and far too busy to join them. Also telling them that they were running late, and that they should hurry for mass. Simply ignoring what they said, she tells the two to head outside.
Once they were finally gone, Lila sighed, rolled her eyes and went back to the kitchen to wash Olga's dirty plate as well as the rest of the dishes.
While she washed Olga's dirty plate, and set it aside to dry along with the other recently washed plates. She exhaled heavily as she saw the amounts of molded covered dishes; inside the soapy; yet dirty waters of the sink tub.
Not wanting to even touch the plates, but knew that she had to clean them, and get everything done and over with — to get started on her other chores. So she took a deep breath and reached out to grab a plate. But before reaching inside the soapy-dirty waters for a plate — one of the dishes inside the sink tub, began to float in mid air.
Then a couple of them began to float, above the waters. Then the sponge that she used and set aside began to float as well, and began scrubbing onto the dirty plates.
She sighed in relief, as she didn't have to touch any dirty dishes. She watched as the dirty dishes were being scrubbed — with a flick of her wrist, she turned on the kitchen faucet. And with another flick, she hovered the plate towards the running water, to rinse the plates and hovering them towards the cleaned plates to dry. She did this, while she cleaned the kitchen counter and while taking a bite of an apple that she picked from the fruit basket. As it was the only thing she had for breakfast — since she had to get all the house chores done for the day.
While Lila was at home, working on her chores with the help of her magic. Olga as well as Sandy and Daisy walked about a couple of blocks to attend church. Which resided by the twins' school as well as the restaurant that Lila and the twins went to when they were very young; a restaurant that went by the name 'The Lilacs'.
The twins were somewhere a year old, and had only gone once — Lila was only six years old. The three were accompanied by both Sebastian, as well as nicer and motherly Olga.
But those were years ago, things had changed since then — after Sebastian's disappearance, Olga too had changed, as she became cruel and bitter. Entirely different from the person the three once knew and loved.
Lila was pulled from the school that was closest to her home, the same school that the twins are attending, and was kept in doors ever since.
Olga also visited the restaurant, mainly to drink at the bar. But had been banned ever since she became extremely drunk and injured the manager as well as the hostess.
Olga had to walk to church on Sundays now, and have the twins walk themselves to school. She had to call for a cab for work now; since she was forced to sell her old small vehicle. The money that she earned from selling her old car, was to help pay half of the mortgage as well as other expenses that she was behind on. On which Olga always found an excuse to blame Lila for not having a car to drive herself and the twins to places anymore, and complain that she had to pay more on driving expenses now that she doesn't have a vehicle.
Somewhere by 11:01 pm, mass was finally over. Sandy and Daisy mostly dozed off the entire time, while Olga kept praying to herself of the usual things she mostly prayed about as well as listen to the pastor of forgiveness, and family. Something Olga is far from ever doing or achieving some things in life.
As they were outside the church, Olga turned to the girls of what they felt like eating, if they had a mind on what or where they wanted to eat?
But the twins looked a little worried, and wondered if they could afford to eat out — given the fact that Olga hardly went to work, and were both puzzled on how her workplace even provided her a raise, since she's rarely present at work. Or what kind of a work place did she work for, that offers her money even in her long absence? The only money she had left after paying partly the mortgage and other bills. But weren't so sure if there was still enough money left for them to go out to eat.
Sandy and Daisy rather not ask her, since they somehow knew that she would just change the topic, or take it out on Lila for no ill reason. Both not wanting to take on the risk, so both of them kept silent about it.
Olga was growing a little frustrated and impatient with the twins not deciding where to eat. So she huffed out in annoyance, and suggested to the twins that she knew of this one place somewhere in London that served the best 'Coronation Chicken'.
Before she went to a nearby payphone, to phone a cab to pick her and the twin girls up to drive them to London. She searches inside her purse to insert some pounds and pennies, and realises what she forgot to pack inside her purse before leaving the house.
Lila was finishing sweeping up the kitchen, as well as the living room area, as well as dusting the shelves and a few other things around the house. Now, all she had to do was start mopping the kitchen floors, and so she headed back towards the sink to see the progress of the dishwashing. Only four plates left to clean. And Lila smiled that she was able to finish cleaning everything else downstairs; including the kitchen much faster now that was able to use magic. And thought that maybe she should use magic more frequently whenever she needed a little help on her chores.
As she went back to mopping the kitchen floors, she heard the front door shut — immediately making her jump and startled, as she wasn't expecting anyone to be home so soon.
Not even Olga, even if she sometimes ditches work to come home early. Still, even if it wasn't her work day today, she was never this early.
As she peeks out the side of the kitchen room door, to see who it might be — and she was surprised to see that it was actually Olga. Then she sees her making her way to where she was in the kitchen.
Lila looks at the sink area and sees that there were only two plates left that were still floating in mid air, as well as a soaked sudsy sponge that was in the middle of washing the other floating plates, and was also floating in mid air.
She quickly sets the mop aside, and rushes towards the sink to stop both objects from floating.
Almost slipping from the freshly wet-cleaned floor, she quickly grabs ahold of both sponge and cleaned plates, while the other plate keeps floating in mid air.
Lila tried forcing the plate down the sink water, as it was being stubborn and not obeying her. She finally forces the wet sponge and plates down. Doing so almost made her drop the one cleaned plate she had in her hand as it was a little wet and slippery.
As Olga enters the kitchen, she looks at Lila. Giving her the suspicion of what she was doing just now; since Lila looked a little flustered, as well as a little winded — the moment she heard her walking to the kitchen and by pushing the stubborn plate inside the sink.
Lila sets aside the plate she had in her hand to dry with the others, as she pulls out the plate she just shoved in the sink — to look like she was busy hurrying in cleaning the remaining dishes.
Olga knew something seemed rather suspicious, but couldn't put her finger on it. And as soon as she was about to say something, to question Lila's odd behaviour as well as her need to feel a little flustered. Taking one step on the kitchen tile floor, Olga nearly slipped — but was lucky enough to hold on the sides of the door, so that she wouldn't tumble over.
She wondered why the kitchen's tile floor was wet, but then she noticed the mop that Lila put aside just now.
Olga turns her attention back to Lila, and yells at her as she slowly gets up.
"Damn it! You stupid bitch! At least tell me that you just mopped! I could've fallen and broken my neck! — you stupid daft bimbo!?!" She barked at Lila with cruel insults — instead of charging at her, she just yelled at her from across the where she stood to where Lila was standing.
Instead of losing her own character and letting it get the best of her. Lila simply bit her inner lip, took a deep breath and decided to keep herself calm. Since she didn't want to cause any sort of incident, as she felt that she might set her powers off with her anger and mixed up emotions somehow.
"I'm sorry…" She muttered, in a low whisper. Trying her best to not let it get the better of her, but also feeling actually sorry for not warning Olga. "I was… I was finishing up with the dirty dishes while I was mopping and hadn't realised that the floor was still wet." She told her earnestly, and sheepishly.
"Fucking, useless idiot — can't even do even the simplist chores. Not washing the dishes fast enough. Can't even clean the kitchen floor properly without having someone breaking their necks. And the only thing you can say is 'your sorry'? How fucking retarted can you get." Olga snared at her from where she stood, with her insults.
At this point, Lila was fed up at this point for having to hear and listen for such insults. Especially a word she didn't quite understand, but knew that such a word had offended her and affected her so deeply.
Even actually apologising for her own little mistakes, all she gets was more insults after insults such little things, including the amount of disrespect that she has been given.
Lila had enough, she was still angry — but while still trying to remain her composure. She settled it as calmly as best as she possibly could while telling Olga how she really felt.
"*Sigh!!!* Alright — then let me put it simpler for you to understand more clearly. I am sorry… For rushing back and forth; cleaning the hard-covered mold off your dirty plates. While I went back to cleaning and mopping the kitchen floor — which I am quite amazed that you weren't able to notice the floors being freshly mopped, by its lemon-scent aroma as well as the mop that was clearly sitting 'right' there by the kitchen counter." Lila told her calmly, her expression calm but with a bit of sarcasm and seriousness in her tone of voice.
"So, yeah. I apologise for doing what you told me to do when you left. My 'simplest' chores, which I manage to finish, just now. Unlike a certain someone who rarely shows up for work as well as finishing them." Lila said lastly as she then smiled, pleased after telling Olga what she needed to hear.
Olga's cheeks were a deep hue. Embarrassed about what she was just told just now.
Speechless and flustered by what Lila had said, Olga just simply glared at her. Angerly, heated over how she had the absolute nerve to talk back to her like that. All she wanted to do at this moment was strangle her scrawny frail neck and wipe the smug look on her face.
Lila, feeling somewhat confident, was also feeling that maybe she might have overstepped a few things. And was starting to regret what she said. Seeing how she made things worse for her.
But before Olga did and said anything to her for her remark. As well as rushing towards her to 'teach' her a lesson for speaking to her the way that she did. She looked at the clock above the left side of the sink; that was on the display on the kitchen wall and noticed the time. Remembering just then, why she came back home in the first place.
Instead of arguing, as well as running towards Lila to beat her for her behaviour. She went and searched somewhere in the house for what she was looking for as she looked to be in quite a hurry.
And after a moment later, she sighs in relief as she immediately found what she was looking for.
"Blasted, almost phoned a cab and went to the restaurant without my wallet." She angrily muttered to herself, as she sped through the sitting room, walking to the front door.
She then tells Lila before heading out the front door, she comes back to the kitchen to tell her a last warning. "Consider yourself lucky that you got off without a beating — for being cheek with me. Or else I would've been late with my outing with the twin girls."
Lila didn't say anything, but simply nodded a reply.
"Make sure to clean all — the bathrooms. And be sure to make mine spotless." Olga told her lastly, after spitting on the floor, as she aimed and landed on Lila's shoe. On which Lila looked in utter disgust at such a disgusting act.
With Olga's little disgusting display, she gave a sinister and satisfied grin with what she did. Finally making her way towards the front door and heading out. Shutting the door behind her, and finally leaving the neighbourhood with the girls.
Lila exhaled heavily, the moment Olga left. Almost stumbling over to the kitchen counter to realise what just happened.
She was somewhat proud to actually speak up and talk back to Olga, as it felt very liberating to her — and in a way, she felt great in telling Olga off just now. But was more relieved to be still standing in one piece. And most importantly, she was glad that she wasn't caught using magic in the kitchen just now, otherwise things would have been worse than talking back to Olga.
After cleaning the spit off her shoe with a damp towel, and washing the last two plates that were now ready to dry. But had suddenly dried themselves as they shook themselves in mid air, and danced themselves off of Lila's hands and danced themselves back into the cupboard with the rest of the cleaned dishes.
Lila chuckled at the interestingly whimsical thing she just witnessed of the dancing dishes — seeing something to lighten her mood just a bit. And little magic to brighten her days.
Now that everything was all cleaned in the kitchens, Lila went ahead and started getting ready to work on her other added chores.
She's thankful to be granted magic powers of her own that can help her with her other chores, while she was busy with her main chores. But after almost being caught from using magic, and by also talking back to Olga, which she kind of regrets still as she might deal with the consequences, later in the day.
Also thinking that it's probably best to not be using magic at the moment, or maybe for the rest of the day. Though difficult as it may seem as it was easier said than done. But hopes that she succeeds in keeping it all in as best as she can. Or at least try to not use magic while she did her chores.
Because ever since Lila got her enchanted, acceptance letter as well as her new awakened magic powers. Things had been rather interesting, in her life — or sometimes rather a little too much for her to quite handle.
Just when she knew she had magical abilities — she couldn't focus on her daily chores or cook the meals for her sisters properly, as she almost accidentally set things ablaze at first, as well as having certain things disappear and break things without even touching them.
A couple of times, she was almost caught by both Olga and her sisters when she used magic.
Just like what happened now in the kitchen. But the day she realised she could use her magic to help her with her chores like cleaning the kitchen, also fixing the beds, cleaning the dishes; sweeping and mopping the floors. Her powers weren't compilable at first, as she almost caught things on fire and almost flooded the entire house a couple of times with her accidental recklessness of her magic.
Luckily, she was able to clear her tracks, as she cleaned up any sort of mess that she caused with her magic, but luckily no damage seemed to have shown inside the house as every evidence of that led to her using magic, as well as any sort of damage that her magic had caused had reverted things to how they originally were as well as making every other sort of mess and damages disappear.
Which Lila was relieved about, and was glad that no damage was left for her to try and explain everything without making her confess that she had been using magic this entire time.
Even before Olga and her sisters returned home from both work and school, or whenever they were just at home for the majority of the time.
She had to make sure that she was entirely careful so that she wouldn't get caught using magic. As her untamed magic became harder and harder for her to control at first, but each passing day; she was able to withhold, and practice to keep her magic contained and under control — for now.
She just couldn't wait to start school for the first time in six years, and was ecstatic to learn any type of magic as well as all sorts of spells. Maybe even learn how to keep her powers under better control, in case she doesn't set them off whenever she feels angry or any type of mood.
Just thinking about the idea of finally going to school — she just couldn't help how exciting it would be to be a real magical witch, and to be attending a magical school, at that.
She still couldn't believe it, even after telling herself so many times that all of this was real and that she was actually going. And was still in disbelief that there was even actually a school, a place for witches and wizards. And that she couldn't wait to finally go and start learning more about everything that there was about the magical school had to offer.
Lila headed back upstairs. But before starting on cleaning up the bathrooms as she was told to do, she went to her and her twin sisters bedroom first.
She sat down on her old springy bed mattress, taking out her acceptance letter that she had hid inside her pillow. She had kept with her at all times, since the day she first received it. And kept looking at it every day, with full pure excitement in her eyes — imagining how her life would be once she was there at Oasel Academy — and how magical it would be.
She had written in a blank piece of parchment paper that she had stored in one of the drawers of her almost-broken down dresser by her bedside — alongside the stored parchment, she kept things like pencils, tape, almost-dried up pens; as well as two notebooks. Simple things for her to use to help her to study by herself, or sometimes with the help of her two sisters to help her read and write.
The twins would sometimes help her with studies and subjects — such as writing, maths equations and such. Basic things that she hadn't learned in a while since she was pulled out of school when she was almost about the twins' age. And was very thankful that her sisters had the time to help her with such things, while trying to help with bettering the twins' school work at the same time.
Once Lila had a working' pen and a blank parchment in hand; she signed her acceptance letter herself, though written in neat cursive — her writing looked as if it was written by a child, since it has been a while for her since she had written something. It took a while for her to come up with what to write, as this was honestly her first time writing to anyone.
As she took her time on what she wanted to write, as well as to express her gratitude for being accepted to the magical school of Oasel Academy. And once she thought of a few things to write down, making sure she chose the right words to use and trying her best to spell the words she was writing.
After a few moments into writing in a shaky and sloppy-like cursive; crumbling the ones that didn't look right to her. Seeing if what she had written was fine, and seeing if she had messed up on her paper, especially on the misspells she had written.
Once she finally came to one that might be passable for the school. And to make sure everything looked right, she held her letter close to her and read it out loud, wanting to make sure it sounded alright to her:
"Dear, Mr. Deborah and Mrs. Fletcher. I am very pleased and threlled to receeve my acceptance letter. And I am happy to rite to you both that I am enterested of beecomeeng a student to Oasel Academy and I am very exited of lerning of what the skool and teachers will teach me to be a great witch.
P.S. I hope that you both don't mind if I send this letter invalope with the 1 you bothe had send me. I only have thes 1 avalable, and it is the acceptance letter that I had receeved by the weesel that you had sent to delever. So I hope you understand my situashion and hope that you bothe don't mind for some of the spelling errers, it has been a while since I used some words that I hadn;t used to rite beefor.
P.P.S. In kase you dont receeve this letter. I wonted to no. How do I delever my ritten letters, and what is an Oasel???"
Once she was finished reading it out loud. She was a bit pleased with how the letter turned out, but was a bit sceptical about some of the words that she had chosen and written, such as the words 'deliver' and 'write' or 'excited' — as well as a few other words. Feeling that she might have also misspelt a few on her letter.
Though, she thought it was better than the other letters that she crumbled up and had tossed away.
Afterwards; she immediately folded her written parchment and stored it inside the envelope of her acceptance letter (Since it was the only envelope that she had available.) But was now having second thoughts if whether or not, of what she wrote was somewhat okay? And if it was alright by using the same envelope, to have it sent.
Of course, she couldn't ask Olga if she had an available empty envelope somewhere that she could use; as she didn't want to raise any suspicions as to why she needed one — and would immediately ask whom she was planning to write to and might also ask about her letter.
Given the fact that Olga will immediately destroy it — just like how she did with the previous letter. But was also more afraid of Olga finding out that the school that she was accepted in and applying to is a school for witches and wizards.
So she just used the only available envelope that she had, and hopes that it was alright to reuse it. And decided to write and deliver her own handwritten letter. Even if it was poorly written as well as the neat child-like cursive that it was written in. She thought it was the best and only option she had.
As she had everything in order — she made sure that she was extremely careful to properly hide both acceptance and reply letters away — somewhere where Olga wouldn't find them. And the only place that Lila thought would be the best hiding place was the inside of her worn out pillow.
While both letters were kept hidden, she had to find a way as well as to figure out how to deliver both letters — did she have to call some random owl or weasel? Or maybe an Oasel? (Which she still didn't know what it was)
But she hadn't had any luck in obtaining one, even after waiting on one as she made her trips to the little garden, as there wasn't any on sight of both owls and weasels in their backyard — or mostly anywhere. She even set out four dead mice and insects that she gathered from traps that were set out inside and scattered in some parts of the kitchen, as well as some places inside the house. And had placed the dead mice somewhere in the garden for either owl or weasel — to see if any of the two would show up to snack on the dead prey and to have one of the two critters to have her letters delivered.
But no matter how many hours had passed; two days even. Neither weasel nor owl had shown up.
As Lila headed out back of the house and back to the garden to check and gather some fresh produce that she had planted. Picking which to use as ingredients for the meals she will be cooking for tomorrow's meals.
She saw that the dead mice that she had placed by her small personal garden, were still at the place where she had left them; untouched and lifeless.
Instead of throwing the dead mice away, she thought that maybe she should wait one more day — maybe then either owl or weasel would show.
And sometimes she would replace the dead mice for some fresh new ones from the traps that were set off inside the house and would often bury the old, almost decaying four dead mice somewhere. As she saw that they still had been untouched by either creature to eat. She thought instead of letting them rot, that they needed a proper burial, and planted little flowers on their little graves.
While she waited for either owl or weasel to show. She thought that maybe she should try and deliver her letters to the postman who delivered letters to her house and their neighbourhood.
Though, remembering that today was Sunday — and there were no posts delivered on Sunday. And thought that maybe she should wait until approximately by Monday to hand the postman to deliver her letter.
It wouldn't matter then either; because ever since she received her first acceptance letter, that was then destroyed in a fiery blaze — Olga did her best in preventing any more letters for Lila from the magical school. And would even beat her to it, and would always push her out of the way (almost knocking her over at times). Whenever she thought to receive and deliver any letters personally from the postman.
And every time Olga would snatch the mail from the postman's hands — going through the mail that was delivered, and everytime she did. She would give the same reaction, sighing in relief, almost looking overjoyed even.
What was it about the mail that was making her so jolly? — surely not the mail that had stamped red bold words written under 'passed due' on them again. Though Lila knew what she was happy about, and it was that Olga thinks that she didn't receive another letter again, now that it has been almost about a few weeks.
Olga would never say, though — as she would tell Lila to mind her own business and to get back to her chores.
But after returning to her chores, Lila would sigh about how she failed yet again, to deliver her reply letter. And wasn't sure that the owl or weasel would show up today again either, since she hadn't seen a sign of either one of them from the kitchen windows, as she made her rounds on cleaning the kitchen counter and cooking meals for Olga and her sisters.
She knew that time was running short, and that she had to get her letter delivered somehow; before the 31st of July.
Hours had passed, it was now 6:30 pm and Lila had finished cleaning both the kitchen, living room, bedrooms as well as the other bathrooms — and was just finishing up with Olga's.
Olga and her twin sisters had returned home about shortly after she started cleaning Olga's bathroom. Sandy and Daisy hurried to their room; while Olga hurried to the kitchen, to retrieve a wine bottle and a wine glass that she had hid in one of the cupboards and immediately flopped herself onto the sitting room couch.
She hurried back to the sitting room, cursing to herself about how the cab driver was driving slow, and kept complaining about how she was about to miss her television show because of how slow they had been driving.
Olga quickly turned on the tele and was relieved that she didn't miss her favourite show, and that she was able to make it in time. She then turned up the volume all the way up, as she poured herself a glass of some of the strongest red wine and opened a to-go box and began eating her leftovers from the restaurant. Laughing hysterically about what was on the loud tele. But even with the volume cranked all the way up, Lila could still hear her loud drunken pig-like laughter from upstairs.
"Lilac." Sandy and Daisy both said in unison, but not before Sandy lightly knocked on the side of the open door, letting Lila know that she and Daisy were there.
Lila looked behind her shoulder, to see her sisters — while she scrubbed and took out the loose strands of browns and grey hairs from the drain. And for some reason, some strands of blonde hair?
"Hi Sandy — hi Daisy. What's the matter???" Lila replied, as she dumped the soggy soiled hairs in the nearby bin.
"We just wanted to let you know that we brought you a little something from the restaurant, in case you missed lunch and dinner." whispered Sandy, as Daisy quickly nodded.
"Y-yeah — and we put it underneath your bed, so that you can eat it later." Daisy whispered lastly.
Lila smiled at her two sisters and thought how sweet of them to bring her something to eat. But worried if Olga knew that they would be bringing her food?
"Don't worry Lilac. We told her that we will finish the rest, once we get back. Since we got really full from what we had at the restaurant." Said Sandy. "And we also thought that you might have been very hungry too, so we decided to bring you something." Said Daisy lastly.
"Sandy, Daisy… you didn't have to get me anything. This is your food, and you two should finish eating it instead-" before Lila could say anything more.
She was interrupted by both twins as they both said to her. "We did have to. We thought of you, because you're our sister. We have to take care of you too, just like you do for us." Both girls argued in unison.
"Again we're super full from the restaurant and Olga kept asking for more to eat from the menu. And we had to finish up our meals a little quicker — since she kept eating from our plates at the restaurant." Sandy then added, and Daisy nodded to what she said.
Lila couldn't believe what she heard, but also thought it wasn't further from the truth, since Olga had the tendency of eating food from the twins' plates at times, and would be angry at the two if they didn't give her theirs.
Then, wanting to be sure if that were the case, or if the two were feeling a little ill for not eating so much. Lila asks the two if they feel sick at all, for eating a little too fast, and if they needed any medicine or something?
But both Sandy and Daisy shook their heads — both telling her that they had really eaten too much and that all they needed was to lay down, and sleep.
Since they were feeling sleepy and knew they had school in the morning — both girls hurried out the bathroom door. But then both twins quickly came back to tell Lila before heading back to the room, "Just be sure to eat up, once you're done cleaning. Okay Lilac? Me and Daisy are going to get some sleep for school tomorrow."
"*Chuckle* Okay, you two — goodnight." Lila chuckled as she quickly got up from the tile floor as she was finished cleaning the bathtub. Once she stood up, she walked over to them to kiss both of her sisters on their foreheads as she told the twins goodnight.
"Remember — eat your food, when you're done and before going to sleep." Both twins told their older sister in unison with a serious tone, before they went back to the room.
"*Chuckle!!!* Yes, I'll eat the food that you brought me. And make sure I finish every last bite." Lila chuckled in response before telling her sisters goodnight once more and sending them off to bed. "Goodnight, you two."
"Goodnight, Lila!" Sandy and Daisy said unison.
Once both twins went back to the bedroom and back to their beds. Lila got back to cleaning Olga's bathroom and wanted to finish as quickly as she could to eat her meal that her sisters brought her from the restaurant. And to get back to the room, and figure out a way to deliver her letter, as she feared that she might be running out of time.
There just has to be some other way to have both letters delivered. She thought while she scrubbed the toilet of Olga's bathroom. Finally finished cleaning the toilet, finishing all of her daily chores for today, without another incident from her untamed magic — though it was a little hard. She was able to maintain her powers while completing her chores.
As pleased as she was that she finished cleaning everything, she slowly gets up from the tile floor — only to be pushed back down by someone gripping onto the back of her hair with such force — having her face shoved inside the toilet bowl.
"Tell me — does this toilet look clean to you? Because I still see some disgusting shit in it." Olga commented, as she kept shoving her head inside the toilet bowl. "Also, don't think that I'd forgotten about how you spoke to me earlier today. Feeling rather brave, huh? Ms. Evie? Or just being really stupid? And didn't I say to have this bathroom spotless?" Olga snared at her, almost in a light whisper. But Lila could barely hear or listen to what Olga was saying, as she struggled to get her head out of the toilet.
Lila squirmed, trying to pull away from Olga's tight grip behind her head, making some of the toilet water spill all over the tile floor, as she fought to free herself, struggling to gasp for air. But Olga's tight grip on her hair; kept shoving her head deeper in the toilet bowl.
Olga finally lets go of her hair, after a few moments of shoving her head in the toilet.
Lila immediately pulls away from the toilet, as soon as she felt Olga's hand lets go of her hair.
"*Tongue clicks* Looks like you have to start all over." She muttered to her coldly. Seeing the toilet water spilled all over the toilet seat and floor.
Gasping and breathing frantically to finally breathe fresh air — coughing out the water that managed to seize inside her mouth; throat and nostril. Making her vomit from the process.
The sight of her vomiting was horrific for Olga to see, and was disgusted by such a sight "YOU DISGUSTING SHIT!" Olga shouted, as she kicked Lila on the face, making her slip on her own vomit.
"Get the fuck up! And clean up all this mess that you made — and make sure that it's absolutely spotless here! Do I make myself clear!?!" She later added, while spitting on Lila, shortly after.
Lila stumbled a bit to get up, using the counter of the sink that was close to the toilet to get up. But once she stood — she quickly got the damp towel that she was using earlier to clean the sink, and began cleaning after the toilet water that was on the floor as well as the vomit that was mixed in with it.
While she was cleaning, Olga smirked menacingly — she clicked her tongue, and decided to make things worse for her, as she already found this whole scenario amusing somehow.
"I know there's no posts on Sunday. Aside from yesterday, and the day before, and the day before that. Even so, there was still no mail for you; yet again — I guess whoever sent you that letter must have sent it to you by mistake. Otherwise, why else would they not reply back to you or send you another letter?" She said coldly, with a low snicker.
"*Sigh!* Now that you have a lot here to be cleaned. I'm going to my room and take my beauty sleep. See to it that you finish cleaning up this bathroom, and do try not to wake me. Otherwise… you'll have a similar thing happen to you, than what I did to you in the toilet." Then shortly after she sighed and snickered menacingly; she left the room, and headed back to her room — leaving Lila to clean up the bathroom again.
If only she knew that the sender had actually sent me another letter. But I'll just let her think whatever she wants at this point. As long as we finally get out of here. She thought, while finishing up on cleaning the bathroom floor and toilet.
She tiptoed, and snuck out of Olga's bedroom, so as to not wake her as she just went to sleep. After a whole long day of cleaning and constant chores, she was finally done for the day.
She made her way to the bedroom to find a change of clothes, in order to change out of the heavily drenched clothes of toilet water and vomit.
Luckily, her sisters were fast asleep, and luckily didn't wake up as she walked in. Lila snickered, as she hears both of her twin sisters snoring and sleeping in odd positions in their bunk beds.
She tiptoed towards them, in efforts to not wake her sleeping sisters.
She picked up their blankets and tucks in both twins in their bunk beds. She climbed up the ladder of her twins' bunk bed (which wasn't a tall bunk bed, but Lila liked climbing the ladder at times.) to tuck in Sandy. Then climbing down to tuck in Daisy, as both twins had tossed both their blankets to the floor, while in their sleep earlier.
Lila then carefully tucked in Juju, being absolutely careful to not accidentally wake her sister Daisy.
Daisy smiles in her sleep and tightly grips on her little ragdoll. Her ragdoll still wasn't fixed, since Lila still couldn't find any thread to stitch her sister's doll up.
But hopefully she'd be lucky to find some lying around somewhere to fix the doll's arm sooner. Since she knew how much Daisy loved taking Juju with her, everywhere. Especially to school and mass, so long as it wasn't much of a distraction where Olga and the children from the twins class wouldn't take it from her. She would try to hide Juju in her bag to school as well as bringing her rucksack to mass to hide the doll, if needed to.
But since her ragdoll's arm is torn, and Lila still hasn't found the thread to fix it's arm. She left Juju home in bed for the meantime, until the doll gets fixed eventually.
Lila quickly plants a soft kiss on both of her sisters foreheads, from their bunk beds. Whispering to her twin sisters a 'goodnight' for the third time.
Soon after, she went to see if both letters were still inside her pillow; and was glad that they were.
She stores her letters back inside her pillow; takes out some clean clothes from her dresser, sets them on the bed. She then smelled something heavenly, and remembers about the food that her sisters hid for her under the bed. She went and ducked under the bed to see what it was, and couldn't stop drooling as she laid eyes on what she had in her hands.
It was a small to-go box of what looked like bits of chopped chicken, wrapped in a lettuce leaf; covered in a light green sauce. She quickly opened the window, so that the lingering and delicious smell of the chicken wouldn't spread throughout the room. As she didn't want Olga catching her sisters into giving Lila their leftover food from the restaurant and getting into trouble for it.
Once Lila had the window open, and hid the chicken back under her bed. As she wanted to clean all the vomit and filth she was covered in, before eating such delicious food.
So she made her way to the bathroom, near hers and her sisters room to shower, along with her cleaned clothes to change into. As she couldn't wait to eat her meal, once she was done from her quick shower.
After focusing very hard and imagining making the water to a perfect temperature, she was able to shower with warm water.
With her brilliant attempt, she saw a little bar of soap sitting on the counter of the bathtub and for a split second, she had accidentally made a little bar of soap come to life; turning it into a small little living soap frog.
Then quickly imagined it and turned it back into an ordinary bar of soap. Not wanting the enchanted little soap frog to escape and start a commotion, or else she would have to face a worse punishment from Olga. Which was something that Lila didn't want at all.
So after her quick, almost long shower and after a long process in changing the water temperature. Since Olga didn't pay for the heating bill yet again. But luckily, she was able to turn the ice cold water to a tad hot temperature, so that she could take a proper shower and not catch a cold.
It seems that her magic was becoming a little better, but would sometimes agree that she needed some more practice, as her magical abilities don't go as smoothly as she wanted them to be.
Almost showered in boiling water the moment she used her magic, after she imagined turning the cold water warm. She even tried to imagine the boiling water turning a bit cold, in an attempt to make the water a little warmer. But had made the water very cold, as she felt how ice cold it was. Thankfully she didn't hop in at the time to shower while checking the water as she would've froze over.
Once she was changed into her cleaned yet tethered clothes. Drying her hair with the now damp towel, and letting her hair down to dry faster. She picked up her dirty clothes from the floor and quietly headed downstairs to put them in the washer to be cleaned; and hung them outside to dry right after, once they were done from washing.
It's a good thing I didn't wear my favourite socks today. I knew I had a feeling that something like this would happen. She thought, while sighing in relief, as she smiled down to her striped socks that she decided to wear once she hopped out of the shower, as they were very favourite socks.
Once the washer went off — Lila took the wet cleaned clothes from the washer, and stepped outside to have them hung on the clothesline to dry.
As she has finished hanging her wet clothes, double checking that clothes pegs were keeping her clothes tightly secured, trying to prevent them from falling from the ground of their back garden of the house.
While making sure that everything seemed in place, she spotted something flying above her. As she heard fluttering and its shadow flew right over her.
She quickly looked up and there she saw some sort of winged creature. She wasn't sure what it was, as it had the body of a four-legged animal, but had wings of a bird.
Before asking herself what it was, she then sees the creature entering the opened window to her's and her sister's bedroom.
From then on, Lila knew that it was another magical delivery critter, as she quickly went and picked up the four dead mice that she placed by the little garden; and hurried back inside. But also making sure she didn't make any noise while she ran inside; so as not to wake the twins, but more importantly Olga.
She lightly and quietly climbed up the stairs; the way a toddler would climb up a set of stairs. This way, she made less noises as quickened her pace — but it was somewhat fun and comfortable for her to do.
Once she made it up the stairs, quickly and quietly tiptoeing to the bedroom.
She slowly opened the bedroom door, where it unfortunately made a loud squeak as she opened the door widely.
Once making it inside, and quietly closing the door behind her. The sound alarming the critter as she saw it feeding on her chicken that her sisters brought for her.
Before Lila could try to stop, or shoo the critter away. She instead was able to have a better look at the creature that took a few bites of her food.
She saw that it was some sort of hybrid of an owl and a weasel. As the creature had the body of a weasel, face of a barn owl; as well as the wings of an owl implanted on its back, as well as cute little rounded ears above its head.
Lila thought if they might have been fake or some sort, but her eyes grew wide as she saw the creature stretch its wings wide. And scratched its ears with its little paws, probably feeling itchy or probably moved them a little checking if there wasn't anything bugging its ears.
Lila was both surprised and amazed by its appearance, and couldn't stop staring at the creature.
Its fur, as well as its feathers from its wings and above its neckline were a lovely shade of pale rufous hue, with lovely white spots. She thought that the little creature looked really adorable, but also beautiful with its lovely shade of warm colours and spots that it bore.
Aside from gazing at its bizarre and unique appearance; she quickly notices the medal collar around its neck, as well on its harness.
The unique looking creature, then pulls an envelope out from its harness with its beak and hands it to Lila.
Lila quickly locked the bedroom door, sat down. The winged four-legged creature; sitting right beside her, while Lila began opening the envelope, and removing the crimson sealment.
Just like her last enchanted acceptance letter. This too came to life, and it too turned into a paper bird.
But instead of a stern woman's voice, it was a raspy, yet calm older man's voice. And the paper bird began speaking gleefully and loudly, catching Lila off guard — making her almost tumble off of her bed.
"DEAR MS. EVIE!-"
Lila quickly shushes the envelope to quiet down, on which it immediately listens as it quiets down. Relieved that it quieted down, since her sisters were fast asleep, and also didn't want Olga waking up either from such loud noise.
"Alight… you were just too loud… you can tell me again. But please try to be quiet…" Lila whispered to the little paper bird letter.
Which the magical letter bird somehow did as it was told, and began speaking lowly as well as to start over from the beginning:
"Dear, Ms. Evie!-" The paper bird started speaking lowly, yet excitedly. And it, as well as the voice of the old man, happened to pronounce her last name correctly, unlike the last time.
"This is Gregory Deborah, sending you a reply with this paper bird letter — and this Oasel to notify you that I have received your written letter. So there's no need to fret if you grew weary of not delivering it. The good thing about magic is that you're able to enchant things, such as this and your acceptance letter. Also, don't worry too much, my dear. I understood perfectly what you had written in your letter, as Mrs. Rita Fletcher did as well."
The paper bird then finished what it had to say and folded itself back into a letter.
Lila looked at the creature that sat beside her on her bed, now knowing that the creature before is an Oasel. Then she stared at the folded letter again, confused about what the paper bird had said just then. As she went and reached inside her pillow to pull out her envelope.
Before she opened the envelope, she immediately asked it to be quiet as it decided to speak. As she opened the envelope, she pulled out her written letter as well as two other letters inside.
The letter that she had sent was somehow stamped in metallic gold ink with an 'O' insignia. There'O' circled around a picture of an Oasel and had the school's name displayed below it.
There were other three letters that she had never seen nor written before. She opened the first two letters to see what they were and what they read.
The one letter she opened, happened to be just a regular written letter. It wasn't enchanted, nor did it turn into a bird or talk. It looked to be a list of things that she needed for school.
The second being another ordinary letter that seemed to be a class schedule.
Unknowingly, as she opened the third letter, this time it turned into another paper bird and began floating in mid air. And began speaking softly by the same voice of the older man's:
"Ms. Evie,
I had taken the liberty of having your written letter stamped. Letting you know that you are officially a student at Oasel Academy and am pleased to have you as a student there.
Congratulations!
The letters sent along with this one, is your class schedule and a list of supplies that you will need for the upcoming term. On which you will need for your first year on the 31st of July.
September 1st will be the day that the school term will commence.
Please note, that to obtain these items and supplies — that you will have to purchase them to Orthegon Alley."
Lila wasn't sure what or where Othegon Alley was. But was amazed by how magical it sounded and how amazing magic, well… how magical it can honestly be.
And she was relieved that the sender had accepted her written letter with a charmed envelope they had constructed. And had somewhat feared that the school wouldn't be able to understand what she had written. But was quite happy to retrieve a stamped copy of her acceptance letter, as hopes she will keep it as a memento. The letter continued on what it had to say:
"And further notice, I placed a whistle inside the harness of the Oasel. Simply ask the Oasel in front of you to hand you the whistle from its satchel.
With it, you can call upon this or any Oasel, to have your letters received and delivered. Or for either weasel or owl. Depending on which setting you set it on.
Do not worry, once you have your own 'Pomegranate uPhone'. You will be able to install the whistle as an app or have it physically with you at all times; the choice is yours."
Lila cocked her head to the side, as well as raised an eyebrow. She understood what a whistle was, and that she had to use it to call an Oasel or switch the whistle settings to call other critters.
But was mostly confused by what the paper bird said after. "A what… phone??? And what in the world is an app???" Was what she thought. She knew what a phone was, but had no idea what a uPhone was as well as an app.
"Um… hello little friend…" She said to the Oasel nervously. "Can I please have the whistle that you have inside your satchel???"
The Oasel initially understood what Lila had asked of them, as they opened their satchel and waited for Lila to reach inside the satchel to retrieve the whistle.
Lila pulls out the whistle that Deborah had mentioned in his paper bird. Once she took the whistle, she inspected the small whistle.
To her, it looked like a small golden instrumented flute; with white engraved drawings of a weasel, owl and an Oasel on the rotating black switch handle of the whistle.
There was also a chain attached to it, for her to put around her neck like a necklace for safe keeping.
Then out of nowhere, the pocket of the Oasel's satchel started to glow for a brief second. Where the Oasel then takes out another letter:
"Oh! I'm terribly sorry. I'm probably making things sound so complicated and confusing for you.
I apologise, I forget that you live among other mickles, and don't know about our advanced technology.
But don't worry. Soon you will learn and understand about the technology that we use here, as well as other things that you will need for Oasel Academy.
But for now, use the whistle to call upon this Oasel, and have them deliver your letters.
(Be careful — she's rather a foodie and will try to munch on people's food.)
In case of emergencies; immediately deliver a letter to the Oasel for anything threatening as well as life threatening — and label it as Urgent, Help, and/or Emergency.
Soon, approximately tomorrow, we will arrive at your home to have a talk to your guardian, and convince them to hand you and your sisters to be in our care. So please be patient for the time being.
P.S. Soon you will be reunited with the people that you have been longing to see for such a long time."
After the paper bird finished its last sentence. It folded itself back into a plain written letter.
Not knowing what Deborah meant, by the 'He and somebody else will arrive here tomorrow… and talk to Olga and convince her to hand me and my sisters over…' She thought in her head, as she trembled. Happy to be hearing such wonderful news.
Overjoyed she was, as the thought that she and her sisters will finally be away from this place, and be in someone's care. Away from harm, torture and suffering — she and her sisters will be finally be free!
'The people that you have been longing to see for such a long time?' She thought in her head again. Not sure who or what people that Deborah might have been referring to and whom she would be longing to see again. And wondered if they were people she might have met before as a child or might be people that will be taking in her and her twin little sisters.
She wasn't quite sure. But for now, Lila just lightly petted the Oasel that was sitting on her bed. Offering it some of the four dead mice she captured for it to eat.
The Oasel gazed at the dead prey that Lila held for them, and immediately snatched the mice from her hands and started munching on the four dead mice.
While it was eating its meal, Lila started eating her meal as well. And teared up on how delicious the chicken was. She began bawling her eyes out, not because of how delicious the chicken was — but because her dreams were finally coming true; that she'll soon go to Oasel Academy, that she'll soon be a witch and that she and her sisters will have an actual family that will watch over them.
Once both Lila and the Oasel finished eating. She called upon it and it quickly jumped on her bed.
"I-I would like to deliver to Mr. Deborah and Ms. Fletcher. If you have time, um… Oasel??? I'm sorry, I don't know what else to call you." The Oasel cocked its head to the side, making Lila chuckle by its confused reaction.
She thought long and hard on what to call the Oasel, and finally was able to come up with a name.
"Hmmm… How about I call you… Ozzie???" She asked the Oasel for its opinion, and if they like the name. The little Oasel began to cuddle up on Lila's arm. Lila snickered at the Oasel's behaviour, and thought how cute it was behaving when they heard it's given name.
"*Chuckle!!!* Okay, okay — Ozzie it is then."
Lila then decided to write a letter to the sender, as she walked towards the dresser and pulled out a pen and parchment paper. Without taking a moment to think, she instantly knew what to write about. After a moment in writing, she looks at her letter and reads it mumbled out loud to see if she didn't add any double words or misspells:
"Hello and good evening Mr Deborah. Thank you for the wisle and Oasel that you have sent me, as I will use the wisle to call upon Ozzie to send my letters.
(Oh and I have desided to name the Oasel 'Ozzie'. I didn't no what to call them, and thot that they should have a name. So I hope you don't mind???)
I'm riting to you, to let you no that I will be quekly send Ozzie back to you. Not that I don't want them around, I just don't want Olga... my foster mother to katsh and hurt it. cence she hates everything thare is about magic. And I care about the little Oasel's safetee.
But I also wonted to let you no that I am so happy to heer that you will araiv for me and my sisters. As me and my twin sisters are leving weth a person who has made me and my sisters suffer. And torshors and abius me and my sisters.
And I will send for a letter, in kase theengs beecome rather… well… life threttening. And will keep the wisle with me in kase I call upon an Oasel.
So plees, if you can. Come and save me and my sisters if theengs beecom life thettening."
She finished reading her letter outloud, and stuff her folded written letter inside Ozzie's satchel.
And Ozzie the little Oasel flew out the window, Lila quickly walked towards the window and saw Ozzie fly off towards the distance of the waning crescent moon and over the other houses.
Mesmerised by their flying form and the way they flew freely into the sky.
Ozzie disappeared in a flash or beam of light; somewhat like lightning, as they were nowhere to be seen. Probably some way for Oasels as well as owls and weasels to do fast, instant travel while delivering.
Once Ozzie was no longer in view, Lila walked back to her bed, and instead of sitting down or going straight to bed — she bent down to retrieve something under her bed. Once she uncovered the sheet covering the thing she was hiding under her bed — revealing to be a very old, leathered briefcase.
As she places the briefcase on top of her bed, she opens the empty old briefcase and starts packing it with clothes from her drawer. Which was only about three old t-shirts and two old and oversized trousers.
As she packed only a few clothes; she hastily tiptoed towards her little twin sister's shared drawer, and packed up their clothes inside the old briefcase too.
She was excited to finally leave this place, and head off to Oasel Academy. And that her sisters will be leaving with her as well, she couldn't help but be happily overjoyed about the thought that they will be free and no longer stay in the care of such an evil woman.
In case things went the other direction. She thought of a plan for she and her sisters to escape from Olga, in case she were to refuse to hand Lila, Sandy and Daisy over to someone else's care.
As she packed everything, her clothes, as well as her twin sister's clothes inside the old briefcase that she found stored away in the attic, hidden alongside some old seasonal decorations, a week ago, while nobody but her was home.
She packed what she needed to take, even when it wasn't much. All she had to pack were her old worn out, oversized hand-me-down clothes; and her hairbrush that she got back from Daisy and Sandy.
Lila couldn't wait to finally tell her sisters the big news about her acceptance letter, about how she can wield magic and about the amazing news that they will be absolutely thrilled to hear.
But instead of waking them to tell them the news, she thought that maybe she should tell them in the morning. As well as advise a plan to escape someplace far away, somewhere away from this house and away from Olga in case things don't turn out as they should. She wasn't sure where to go, if they were to run away. But she knew that anywhere was better than staying here. And to finally be free.
Lila thought about telling the girls weeks ago of the day she got her acceptance letter as well as her magical abilities. And that she'll soon be going to a magical school where she can learn to become a witch herself. Which in some cases, it still sounds kinda hard to believe, after hearing herself saying such things out loud.
But overall, she just didn't know how to tell them — or how they would react if she did. But even if she did, she never seemed to have the chance to tell them, since Olga was constantly with them the majority of the time. As she would take the girls to mass, drive them to school and dine with the twins — never inviting Lila to any event, which was no surprise for her, since she wasn't mostly wanted or allowed anywhere public.
Lila sometimes wonders at times of what would happen if she left home to go to some magical school.
She didn't want to think of such possibilities, as well as the horrific things that might happen.
Both Sandy and Daisy both deserved to be free just like her — away from such a treacherous place, such as this home. That once held so many memories; now filled with nightmares — and Lila just couldn't wait to have her and her sisters away from here.
So it was official — once Lila has the time to be alone with the girls — she will tell them everything. And in case if anything goes bad, advise them of a plan to escape. Wherever they might go and stay, they'll worry about it later. As she was determined in having a better life with her twin sisters.
And although the three of them might not be related by blood — as Sandy and Daisy might be Sebastian and Olga's biological daughters. But she didn't care! She was their older sister, no matter what — even if they were related or not.
Even Sebastian — her foster parent. Has loved her dearly as if she was his own child. Reminding her daily that she was his daughter, and that she will always be his daughter. That she, Sandy and Daisy are his beloved daughters; that she's the twins' older sister. No matter what people might say.
Just thinking about Sebastian has always made her life a little bit better, even when she's dealt with Olga's constant abuse. So all the times she felt miserable and whenever her life was miserable — she had all the precious memories of her dad. His fatherly guidance and advice, of what to do and whenever she was hurting inside:
"I love you, my little butterfly. I love you and your sisters and only wish to see you all happy. Never stop being magical, my little Lilac. The day will come where you choose to be whatever you want to be and do in life that will make you happy — whether it's something that you really want to do, or if it's someone that you care about dearly. Always follow your heart to where it leads you!"
Lila held herself tightly to those words — since the words of his were of her precious times and memories with her father before disappearing.
But even with Sebastian's disappearance — she felt that she was never alone; as she had both Sandy and Daisy. And will do anything to protect them. Something that her father asked of her, if he wasn't around — so she knew that she had to take the part of being the only one to take 'the big sister' role; or in other words a 'parent' to the twins. Since Olga was clearly someone who isn't fit to be a parent.
Before making herself more emotional than she was now. She shook her head and reminded herself that everything was going to be okay — as hers and her sisters' lives will soon change and for the better. And knows that their lives will get better with this second chance she was given, and for her sisters to have.
Lila stored the already packed old briefcase under her bed; covered it with the old sheet that she used to cover the briefcase before. She folded and put away her letters and class schedule inside her pillow — once she put everything, she went straight to bed.
She tucked herself in, shut her eyes and after a few moments — she finally went to sleep.
As she was sound asleep Lila, she began to dream of the same dreams that she's been having. The dream of the little 'Pink Haired Princess, and her Prince'.
She woke in her dream, where she was found in the same tall flowery bed, by the vast meadow and off in the distance was the big tall tree that resided on top of the hill. To which Lila quickly walked towards it, and went to see if both the prince and the little princess were still there.
Once she made it up the hill, Lila was relieved to see that the two were at their usual spot — the little Princess sitting by the Prince, who seemed to be focused on an old looking textbook.
Lila sat by them, since it was the only thing she did in her dream. Since she could interact with either of the two and could only do was to just sit and listen.
She laid underneath the big tall tree, with the Prince and the little Princess — which rested on top of a very tall hill in a vast meadow as they normally did; which was also by a long riverbend.
As the Prince read his book, mumbling a bit out loud as well as writing into his textbook. The little Princess rested her head on his shoulder, as he read.
Lila looked at the meadow, admiring the view of the flowery meadow and riverbend while listening to the Prince's voice — on which sounded, somewhat velvety?
Lila thought that this place of her dream was quite peaceful and enjoyed dreaming of such a place as well as both Prince and Princess. As it felt comforting to her — felt special to her for some odd reason? And everything seemed familiar to her somehow; as if she had lived this, before — this dream, these moments before. But Lila knows that she has never been to such a place before or has never met the two in her life, though she felt her instinct tells her otherwise.
"What are we reading about today, My Prince???" The little Princess asked him excitedly, as she rested her head on his shoulder. The Prince sighed heavily, and groaned after being interrupted from his reading.
"Just reading about what we will be making for my next class. But some of the instructions and ingredients portions seemed to be a bit… off. So I decided to rewrite some of the pages on this textbook. And thought it needed a little tweeks to them." He explains while scribbling on the overly worn out textbook with a quill pen. The cover was almost destroyed and hardly readable given how old it looked.
But an illustration of a little black cauldron can be seen partly on the old worn out cover of the textbook.
"Nevertheless — I don't think you'd enjoy such boring things and lectures coming from what I am reading. Aren't you usually busy colouring silly drawings with my parchment, no less?" Implied the Prince, sounding a bit stern and cold to the little Princess as he shuts the textbook and places it inside his bag. Where she simply replied to his question with her arms crossed trying to match his character.
"For your information my Prince. I was drawing a little picture of you and me — and I believe you enjoyed it as such, since you decided to keep the last one I drew. *Giggle!*" She let out a little laugh as she knew that even she couldn't take herself seriously.
Although both the Prince and little Princess faces were blurred, Lila was still able to depict their reactions and body language. And she herself giggled, whenever she saw the Prince cute at times. Like how he just turned his head the opposite way, to not have the little Princess see him blush by her silly comment.
Even if he did act like a cold, and serious person — he had some cute sides to him, and was actually quite the softy.
"Also —" The little Princess exclaimed, while sitting a little closer to the Prince.
"I don't think any of what you read to me is boring — I think it's very… what was that word you said the last time… 'fascinating'??? — *Giggle!!!* Besides, I enjoy you reading to me every day. It's quite relaxing." She hummed lastly, resting her head back on his shoulder.
The Prince — as usual, acted as if he didn't care — replied with a smug tone, yet his behaviour speaks volumes. "Hmph! Very well. I mostly need to study this and go over what I need to learn for my next exams, anyways. But if you grow bored and fall asleep — don't expect me to wake you, afterwards."
"He, he!!! Noted!!!" She replied with a cheeky and pleased expression — as she rested her head on his left arm, making herself comfortable as he read.
Lila and the little Princess were zoning what the Prince was reading out loud, while he resumed scribbling on his text book — both being lost by his voice; so somewhat velvety and light.
The way he spoke when he read his book aloud, both almost forgetting what he said. As he mostly read about — what Lila thinks were about plants? Or probably something about medicine? As some of the words he uttered sounded somewhat strange and foreign.
Both confused, on what he read mostly; but enjoyed learning about whatever he read in his book to the little Princess.
Lila also thought that it was very interesting and intriguing to learn so many things that he read in his book, things that sounded a little complex, and even things that she has never heard of.
Like how she heard him uttering about gathering 'Coriander, Belles of Ireland and Bouvardia' to make something called a Magnus? As well as gathering something called Wolfsbane, Nightshade and Aconite? Including things like a Goa and Bezoar? She wasn't sure what all these things were, or what they were used for — some sounded weird and made up; while some sounded like candy.
Even though she had no idea what he said made any sense to her — she thought that whatever he read seemed somewhat important for her to learn for some reason?
Overall, she also found it to be quite meditating to have someone read to her — as it felt peacefully calming.
Lila enjoyed being in the dream — as the dream felt to be calming and peaceful for her and felt that it to be cherished. As it helped her get through her difficult life in the real world.
Although her memories of her father were something that kept her distracted about her life in the real world also. But she also saw this dream, this place as some sort of escape from her harsh reality — and never wished to dream of anything else better than this.
Everything seemed to be as it should be, and she felt like she belonged here for some odd reason. To her, she felt everything in this wonderful dream to be perfectly balanced. And that nothing could go wrong.
"Hmmm…" Hummed the little Princess, nuzzling on the Prince's arm as she was sound asleep.
The Prince shook his head and sighed at the obvious display. Instead of shoving her off his shoulder, he let her sleep — he also rubbed her hair lightly, so as not to wake her.
Lila awed at the scene and thought how cute the two were. The little Princess rustled a bit to the side, and was holding something in her arms as she slept. It was something the little Princess was holding, that Lila didn't notice she had with her until now.
She was surprised, yet puzzled by what the little Princess was holding tightly, as the doll that she was hugging with her other arm, looked exactly like her sister Daisy's ragdoll.
Same green ragdoll with red yarn with one blue and the other a purple coloured button eye as well as it's pale blue quilt-like with yellow frills dress. There was no mistaking it, it really was Juju, but looked mostly a little brand new.
"Juju???" Lila uttered in confusion. Trying to wonder, trying to think why the ragdoll was here in her dreams, why it was in the little Princess's possession. Then her head suddenly started to ache. And she wasn't sure why her head was hurting so badly, even being inside a dream.
Then suddenly, Lila was being levitated off the ground from where she was sitting. Then forcibly dragged her body away from the hill, away from the tree — on which Lila tried grabbing a hold to, but her hand just went through the branches, like some sort of ghost.
Lila tried to return back to the surface of the dream, as she forcibly tried diving down, but was no use.
She kept going up, and wasn't stopping. She was already far from the surface and the dream was slowly starting to become no longer visible anymore. Then out of nowhere, Lila cried out as tears floated across her face, while stretching her arm out to the dream, especially towards a specific person inside the dream.
"NO!!! MY PRINCE!!!"
Lila instantly opens her eyes, and finds herself awake in her bed. She quickly sat up from her bed and began crying uncontrollably, as she pulled her legs closer to her. She wasn't sure why she was even crying, but felt somewhat heartbroken, for some reason. As if, she was never going to go back to the dream, as well as back with the little Princess; and Prince.
But oh, how it made her weep even more — once she started thinking that she won't see the Prince and the little Princess ever again. But feared the thought of never seeing the Prince again, and feared that he would never appear in her dreams again. She knew that she couldn't see his face, but still wanted to be by his side.
"Lilac…. *yawn!* Are you okay? Why are you crying" Yawned Daisy, in a tired and sleepy expression.
"Yeah, Lilac. You okay? *yawn!* Replied Sandy, also sounding and looking tired. Both twins walked over to her bed to see what was going on.
Lila saw them looking concerned and tired her sisters were, and immediately wiped her tears with her long sleeve. She answers them, in a way to not make them worry even more, then she already did. "Sorry you guys….. just had a nightmare."
Sandy and Daisy both looked at each other, then back at her. "Are you sure you're alright? We heard you scream, and then you were suddenly crying." The twins asked, worried and concerned for their older sister.
"Yes, like I said. I just had a nightmare. Can't remember what it was though, but I'm glad that it was over with." Lila tells her twin sisters in a calming voice. Not wanting to make them worry anymore than they already were. "Sorry for waking the two of you up-... Wait — What time is it???" Lila checks the clock hanging from their room and sees that it was '3:00 am' in the morning.
Worried that she had woken her sisters up this early, she immediately tells them to go back to bed, since they had school in the morning.
She plants a kiss on their foreheads, and sends them off to bed. But, before the twins made it back to their beds, the three of them were startled as their bedroom door slammed open — making them jump and flinch from the sudden sound of the loud slam.
Olga barges in, looking dead tired, in her plaid oversized dressing gown. Looking furiously and enraged for being woken up so early.
"What in bloody hell is going on!?! — Do you have any idea what time it is?" Olga hissed, tiredly. Immediately glaring at Lila
Lila explains to Olga that she had a nightmare and apologises for waking everybody up so early in the morning, and that she'll just go back to bed.
Olga wanted to rip the strands of platinum silver white hair off her scalp — for disrupting her beauty sleep. But was too tired to even do something like that so early in the morning — so she thought that she should leave it for the afternoon.
"See that you do. Can't believe you woke me and the girls up with your screaming and yelling like some mad women." She hissed to her lastly as she left the room, and went back to her quarters.
Lila took a big sigh of relief, as she was glad that Olga didn't suddenly beat her up for waking her and everybody up — and was lucky enough to get off scot free — but also fears that she might have something in hand later in the day.
"Okay, girls. Time for us to go back to bed. I have a lot of work tomorrow and you two have school early in the morning." Lila advised both girls — as she patted their head and kissed their foreheads. Sending the twins to go back to their bunk beds
Sandy told Lila goodnight and immediately went off to bed, but Daisy waited by Lila's bed.
Lila looks at Daisy, and asks her what's the matter? Daisy stretched both her arms out, while holding on to her ragdoll Juju.
"Daisy, what are you-"
"In case you have any more scary dreams… Juju will keep you safe tonight." Daisy said hushly — Lila immediately insists that she'd be fine and that Daisy should keep her doll with her.
But Daisy tucks in Juju with Lila on her bed. Assuring Lila that she was okay, with her decision.
"It's okay Lilac — I just don't want you having any more nightmares. Besides, Juju will keep you safe as you sleep." Daisy whispered hushly. Before heading back to her bed, she kisses Lila on the cheek.
Sandy surprises Lila by climbing down from her bed — as Lila thought that Sandy had already gone to sleep. But Sandy was still awake, as she walked over to Lila and kissed her on her forehead.
Then both twins told her goodnight, and both of them walked to their beds to fall asleep.
As Lila sees her sisters have fallen asleep. Wanting to do the same, as she readied herself in her uncomfy bed while hugging the injured little green redhead ragdoll. Being careful to not loosen the knot of the doll's arm sling. And readying herself to drift back to sleep.
Shutting her eyes, readying herself to go to sleep. But before dozing off. She couldn't stop thinking about the little Princess and her Prince.
Looking down at Juju, remembering the ragdoll, and wondering why the ragdoll was in her dreams in the first place? Why did the Princess have the ragdoll with her? And what caused her to suddenly leave the dream all of a sudden, as if she was being kicked out of her own dream.
Thinking about such a thought, she worried that she might not ever dream of her peaceful dream again, and worried that she won't see both Prince and little Princess again. She clenches onto her chest — hoping to see them again — to see the Prince again.
Her eyes suddenly grew heavy. She rubs her eyes, yawns and nuzzles herself in her bed. Wrapping herself in a worn out blanket while she hugged and snuggling Juju.
"Goodnight, Juju." She told the ragdoll, while she shifts in her bed, and closes her eyes. As she drifted in her sleep, before mumbling a little before finally sleeping.
"*Yawn!!!* I hope — You get to meet your Prince again — Princess." Lila yawned and hummed softly, as she finally went to sleep.
