Chapter 5 - CHAPTER FIVE

Lynn's eyes fluttered open, her mind still reeling from the stranger's ominous words. "You're connected to him, Lynn. More than you think." She tossed and turned, trying to shake off the feeling of unease that lingered long after the encounter. Who was he talking about? And what did he mean by "connected"?...

She tried to stop thinking about it but she couldn't. The creepy stranger even knew her name. what if he knew where she lived also? Lynn got up from her bed and made sure her door was locked and her window bolted. Fear had crept into her heart, and she was awake for a while before she finally fell asleep. Thankfully, her house didn't get broken into...

The next day, Lynn arrived at her new job, determined to put the stranger's warning behind her and move on with her life. It was probably one of the crackheads in the area who had heard someone calling her name. She tried to convince herself, but it didn't sound convincing enough. She took in a deep breath and gave her head a little shake. "You can't mess this up." She chanted in a low voice to assure herself that everything was going to be fine. She couldn't let this disrupt her life.

As she clocked in and began her training, she couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement and relief. Maybe this was the fresh start she needed. Everyone at the restaurant was kind and made sure to put her through if she found anything hard. Rachel was even kinder. She made sure to check up on Lynn at intervals and Lynn found comfort in this new place.

But as she took a break in the staff room, her mind wandered back to the stranger's words. Who was he talking about? And what did he mean by "connected"? She pushed the thoughts aside, focusing on her new job and trying to put the strange encounter behind her. But an unsettling feeling kept bubbling up in her heart and mind. She had a feeling that there was more to it.

As she scanned the room, her eyes landed on a newspaper on the table. The headline screamed at her: "Alex Hult's Business Empire Expands." Lynn's gaze drifted to the photo. Her eyes became wide in shock and her heart skipped a beat. It was the man she had spilt coffee on a few days ago. That was why Mr Thompson was so mad. He was afraid of the repercussions of her actions. She could have gotten into a whole lot of trouble if he had asked for compensation. Lynn was even more thankful now that she had quit.

Suddenly, her new colleague, Emily, approached her, breaking her out of her afternoon reverie "Hey, Lynn, I saw you staring at the newspaper. You know who Alex Hult is, right?"

Lynn hesitated, unsure how much to reveal. "I've met him once," she replied, trying to sound nonchalant, even though her heart was racing. "Wow! You met Alex Hult.. that's crazy. I'm sure you met him by chance" Emily said and Lynn forced out a smile.

Emily leaned in, a gossip Etched on her face. "Well, let's just say he's not as perfect as he seems. There are rumours about his business dealings... and his family."

Lynn's curiosity was piqued. As she listened to Emily's whispers, her mind flashed back to the stranger's words. "Connected to him." Could it be? No, that was ridiculous. She had only met Alex Hult once, and it was a brief, unpleasant encounter. But the stranger's words lingered in her mind, refusing to be dismissed.

"He is a piece of work and rumor has it that..."

Lynn's eyes widened as she listened to Emily's whispers. She couldn't believe what she was hearing. "That's terrible," she said, shaking her head. She was sure what Emily was telling her was probably just gossip, but it was shocking that such gossip was passed around. Which meant there might be an inkling of truth. But it was none of her business how he lived his life. It had nothing to do with her. She had her problems to deal with.

Emily nodded in agreement. "Yeah, it's pretty scandalous. But hey, at least it makes for good gossip."

As Emily walked away, Lynn's gaze drifted back to the photo of Alex Hult. She couldn't shake the feeling that there was more to the story. And then, like a whisper in her ear, she remembered the stranger's words: "You're connected to him, Lynn. More than you think."

Lynn's heart raced as she tried to make sense of it all. What did the stranger mean? And why did she feel like her life was suddenly spiralling out of control?

She quickly folded the newspaper, trying to shake off the feeling of unease. But she couldn't shake the sense that her life was about to change in ways she couldn't imagine.

As she finished her break and returned to work, Lynn couldn't help but wonder what other secrets lay hidden beneath the surface. And what did she have to do with it all?

The rest of the day passed in a blur as Lynn struggled to focus on her new job. Her mind kept wandering back to Alex Hult and the stranger's ominous words.

As she left work and walked home, Lynn felt a sense of unease and confusion. What lay ahead?
