Chereads / Marrying Mr CEO: Be My Bride / Chapter 6 - CHAPTER SIX

Chapter 6 - CHAPTER SIX

"Are you sure about this sir?" James said when he parked the car. He had a worried look on his face, but Alex looked the opposite of that. "I've never been more sure in my life" Alex replied and his P.A sighed.

"You can stick around I will be out in a few minutes."

James watched as his boss exited the car. He just hoped everything worked out but he was more than seventy percent sure it wasn't going to.

Lynn wiped down the counter for what felt like the hundredth time that day, her mind numb from working her shift. She had been working at Joe's Diner for weeks now, and the excitement had long since worn off and replaced with stress.

She heard the bell at the top of the door jingle, indicating another customer that she needed to hand entered but as soon as she glanced up to take a customer's order, her eyes met those of a man standing in the doorway. Her eyes became completely wide with shocked when she realised who had just walked in, Her heart skipped a beat as she realized who it was - Alex Hult, the billionaire CEO of Hult Industries. The man who was responsible for her loosing her job. The pompous jerk!

Oh no, not him. Anyone but him.

She couldn't believe it. The same man she had accidentally spilled coffee all over just a few days ago was now standing in front of her, looking more handsome and composed than ever.

What was he doing here?

Lynn felt a surge of surprise and curiosity, but she quickly pushed it aside. She had no interest in getting tangled up with someone like Alex Hult ever again. What if he costed her this job too. She had planned on ignoring him till he left but Alex had other plans.

He slowly approached her, his eyes locked onto hers. Lynn deliberately turned away and cursed under her breath when she didn't see anyone in sight. She had to be the one to take his order. Her wretched luck. Well she had no choice then. Lynn decided to answer another customer so she could stall till one of her colleagues came back and attended to him.

"Welcome to Joe's Diner," she said, her voice bright and cheerful, trying to mask the anxiety behind it "Can I take your order?"

Alex stood there for a moment, seemingly taken aback by her completely ignoring him.. But Lynn refused to acknowledge him, instead focusing on the steady stream of customers flowing in and out of the diner.

Finally, he seemed to take the hint and turned away, disappearing into the crowd. Lynn felt a rush of relief as she watched him walk away, she was thankfully heand didn't make a fuss like the last time, he finally got the hint.

But as she glanced up, she caught a glimpse of him watching her from across the room, his eyes narrowed in a mixture of curiosity and annoyance.

Lynn felt a shiver run down her spine. What did he want from her? wasn't he going to leave? She almost groaned but had to keep a smille on her face as she attended to the customer in front of her.

Their eyes met and Lynn felt a surge of panic. She didn't want to face him again, didn't want to relive the embarrassment of that moment.

she quickly looked away pretending she hadn't seen him. But she could feel his eyes on her, piercing into her like a sharp knife. What was his deal?

Alex's eyes narrowed as he watched Lynn deliberately ignore him. He had expected her to be embarrassed, but this was something more. She seemed to be actively avoiding him. Was this the reason James kept asking him not to approach her?

Well, he wasn't backing down so easily.

Alex stood up and walked up to the counter, his eyes fixed on her. "Lynn," he said, his voice low and smooth. Lynn felt the hair at the back of her neck stand when she heard her name. She knew it was him. How did he know her name! he was a billionaire of course he could find it out easily and her name tag was on her chest.

She didn't turn around, but he could see her shoulders tense. "What can I get you?" she muttered, her voice barely audible.

Alex smiled to himself. She was trying to hide, but he could see right through her. "Just a coffee, please," he said, his eyes never leaving hers. The mention of a coffee almost made Lynn curse, was he doing this on purpose to upset her?

Lynn's hands trembled as she poured the coffee, spilling a little on the counter. Alex's eyes flicked to the spill, and he couldn't help but chuckle.

"Still a little clumsy, I see," he said, his voice teasing.

Lynn's face went bright red as she turned to face him, her eyes flashing with anger. "Just take your coffee and leave," she snapped, not able to hold in her anger. This pompous jerk!

Alex raised an eyebrow, intrigued by her spirit. "Oh, I'm not going anywhere," he said, his voice dripping with amusement. "Not yet, anyway."

Lynn's eyes widened in alarm as Alex took a seat at the counter, his eyes fixed on her. She tried to focus on her work, but she could feel his gaze on her, making her skin prickle with unease.

As the minutes ticked by, Lynn found herself growing more and more agitated. Why was he still here? What did he want from her?

Finally, she couldn't take it anymore. "Listen, Mr. Hult," she said, her voice tight with frustration. "I don't know what you want, but I'm trying to work here."

Alex smiled, his eyes glinting with amusement. "I'm just enjoying the view," he said, his voice low and husky.

Lynn's face went hot with embarrassment. "Well, enjoy it somewhere else," she snapped, trying to sound firm. why were her colleagues taking so long on their break! she groaned internally, why did she have to deal with such a jerk?

But Alex just chuckled and took a sip of his coffee, his eyes never leaving hers. Lynn felt a shiver run down her spine as she realized he wasn't going anywhere.

And then, just as she was starting to think things couldn't get any worse, he spoke up again. "You know, Lynn," he said, his voice dripping with sincerity. "I think we got off on the wrong foot. I'd like to make it up to you."

Lynn's heart skipped a beat as she met his gaze. What did he mean? And why did she suddenly feel like she was in way over her head? Was he perhaps trying to apologize?

Lynn's eyes narrowed warily as Alex leaned in, his face inches from hers. "Can I speak to you for a moment?" he asked, his voice low and serious.

Lynn hesitated, unsure of what to say. She didn't want to talk to him, didn't want to get drawn into whatever game he was playing.

"No," she said finally, her voice firm. "I'm working."

Alex's eyes flicked to the counter, where a line of customers was starting to form. "Just for a minute," he pressed. "Please."

But Lynn shook her head and said firmly. "No,".

Alex's face fell, but only for a moment. Then, he smiled and reached into his pocket, pulling out a business card.

"In case you change your mind," he said, his eyes glinting with amusement.

And with that, he turned and walked away, leaving Lynn feeling a wave of relief wash over her. She was glad he was gone.

She watched him go, her eyes fixed on the door until he disappeared from view. Then, she turned back to her work, feeling a sense of satisfaction at having stood her ground.

Lynn focused on her work, trying to put the encounter with Alex out of her mind. She took orders, poured coffee, and made small talk with the regulars, all while trying to shake off the feeling of unease that lingered long after he was gone.

As the afternoon rush subsided, Lynn's manager, Rachel, came over to her. "Hey, what's wrong?" she asked, noticing Lynn's distracted expression.

Lynn hesitated, unsure of how much to share. "Just a weird customer," she said finally, trying to brush it off.

Rachel raised an eyebrow. "Weird customer?" she repeated. "What did he do?"

Lynn sighed, deciding to spill the details. "It was Alex Hult," she said, her voice low. "He came in here and asked to talk to me, but I told him no."

Rachel's eyes widened in surprise. "Alex Hult?" she repeated. "As in, the billionaire CEO?"

Lynn nodded, feeling a sense of unease, maybe she should have kept it to herself. "What does he want from me?" she wondered aloud.

Rachel shrugged. "No idea, but I'm sure you'll find out soon enough."

Lynn groaned, feeling a sense of dread wash over her. She had a feeling that this was far from over. She just hoped he would stay away from her...
