Consumed by jealousy and desperation, he tries to win her back, while Alex's obsession with her becomes increasingly unsettling. As Emma navigates the tangled web of love, betrayal, and manipulation, she uncovers hidden truths about both men—one who may have been stalking her from the start and another whose vulnerabilities may not be what they seem. Caught between two flawed men, Emma must confront her past and decide whether she can trust her heart again. Will she find the strength to reclaim her life, or will the ghosts of her relationships drag her back into a cycle of betrayal? In a world where love can be both a sanctuary and a trap, Emma's journey to self-discovery could change everything.

Chapter 1 - Nothing left

Emma pov

I walk through the aisle of books humming my favourite tune, perfect by Ed Sheeran. My finger caresses the books on either of her sides. I have been in the bookstore for almost an hour and I have been uncertain on what to get. Finally my eyes landed on a eye catching book cover in the new arrivals. I rushes towards it, silently hoping that it's what I had been searching for. I dip my hands into the carton full of books and pulled out the book.

I squealed in excitement, doing a little happy dance in my head. I gazed upon the book cradled in my hand. Quickly I took the book to the counter to pay for it. The attendant gave a warm smile as clicked on her system to confirm the price.

" It's fifteen dollars and five cents ma'am." The attendant said. I put my hand into my bag looking for my credit card. There's no sign of it. I doubled checked it, it still wasn't there. Immediately, my eyes widened in realization. I had left it in the house on my bedside table. I face palmed myself in frustration. I couldn't get the book.

"Thank you, but I won't be buying it again." I said to the attendant with a fake smile. I left the bookstore with a sad expression. It was right there, the newest edition of Xander Flynn's was right there and I couldn't get it.

" Ma'am!" I heard someone shout. I looked back to see who shouted. It was the sales attendant that had shouted to get my attention and right now she was jogging to me.

" Here" she said stretching the brown envelope to me.

" This isn't mine, I didn't pay for it." My eyebrows furrowed in confusion.

" A young man paid for it and said I should give it to you."

" Where is he?" I asked looking around the packing lot for someone that fitted her description.

" He had already gone, he said I should make sure you have it." I took the envelope from her before getting into my car. I kept thinking of who could be the nice person that decided to gift me what I wanted.

I wheeled into the driveway and parked my car. I unlocked the door to meet an empty house. Jason wasn't home yet so I decided to make dinner. At eight pm, I heard a car pull into the driveway few minutes later the front door was unlocked. That was my highschool sweetheart, Jason and one day I intend on getting married to him.

" Welcome babe, how was work?" I asked in a cheerful tone immediately he got in.

" Fine" he said plainly, walking past me towards the stairs. I followed curious at his behaviour.

" Babe, are you good?" I asked concern laced in my voice.

" Emma can you just let me breath for a few minutes!" His voice thundered throughout the whole house.

I clamped my mouth shut as I watched him ascend the stairs till I could see him no more. I felt sad and hurt but I masked my facial expression with a smile. Jason doesn't like when I frown after he scolds me. I decided to give him a few minutes just as he had requested before going up.

I took out the book that a nice young man had bought for me today. I ran my fingers down the slick book cover. I raised the book close to my nose as I flipped the pages, I closed my eyes taking in the heavenly smell of the newly printed book. I smiled in satisfaction as I opened the first page getting ready to be lost in my own world. I flipped the book cover and the next thing I saw threw me in suprise and confusion.

To my obsession.

That was what was written in the next page after the book cover. The handwriting was beautiful and it looked like it was carefully written.

Do I have an obsessive stalker? Fear gripped me as the thought crossed my mind. I ran upstairs to tell Jason about it.

" Baby girl, I'm always here for you." I heard as I got to the bedroom door which was partly open. I entered the room immediately he dropped the call.

" Babe are you cheating on me?" I asked in a calm tone. He looked surprised to see me but he quickly switched it to a frown.

" Why would you barge in like that? And are you monitoring me now?"

" You just finished talking to someone and you called her ' baby girl" the name sounded bitter in my tongue as I spat out.

" Emma, this is what I don't like. Why would you say that?" I looked at him unable to find a reply

" You're always feeling insecure. It was my mum I was talking to." He said somewhat pissed as her threw on a sweatshirt and joggers. Maybe Jason was right I'm just very insecure.

" I'm sorry babe for not trusting you" I said in a remorseful tone.

" It's fine, let's go eat dinner"

That night I laid in bed thinking of the stranger that had bought the book for me and why he could have written that. I decided I was going to take it back to the bookstore and return it bag.

I woke up the next morning feeling energetic and happy. I prepared breakfast while Jason prepared for work. I wasn't working because Jason said I don't deserve to work or stress myself. He said he would take care of me.

" Are all your stuff with you?" I asked him as he tied his shoelace.

" My coat is still upstairs."

" I'll go get it." I said as I ran upstairs to our room. When I picked up his coat something fell from it. I looked down to see what it was. It was a red lace panties. I picked it up examining it, this wasn't mine. I preferred cotton panties to pure lace panties. Many thoughts crossed my mind all at the same time.

" Emma! My coat." Jason shouted from downstairs.

" Whose is this?" I dangled the red panties in his front when I got downstairs. He looked surprised.

" Are you going through my stuff now, Emma?" He asked angrily.

" Jason, this was in your coat, the coat you wore yesterday."

" You had no business going through my stuff." He took his coat and the panties and left the house.

I gasped as tears flowed down my eyes. Breathing was hard as I felt pain in my chest. I sat on the ground reminiscing how Jason hurt me. A part of me didn't want to believe but a part of me knew this was the end.
