Ella's POV
I stood in front of Xing publishing house. Claire had told me they had an opening for an editor and I should give it a try. I've never had a job or gone for even a job interview since I graduated from university. I had no idea what to do or how to act.
I took a deep breath, running my hand down my skirt smoothing the creases before I walked into the building.
" Hi, Good day. I'm Emma and I'm here for the interview. Where is it holding?" I asked the receptionist.
" Oh hi Emma, it's on the third floor. The fourth door on you left."
" Goodluck, Emma" she said with a smile.
" Thank you." I got on the elevator and clicked on the button that had a number three engraved on it.
" Hold it!" I heard and caught a glimpse of a human figure running towards the elevator. I held out my hand stopping the elevator from closing.
It was a lady that entered.
" Thank you so much."
" Which floor?"
" Third floor" I clicked on the button.
" Are you here for the interview?" She asked.
" Yes I am."
We got to the third floor and we saw a long line of other applicants. We took our seat on a free bench.
" Ms. Emma Wellington" a lady called out.
" Present ma'am" I waved my hand before carrying my bag to follow the lady inside.
" Please have your seat." A member of the panel said, I lowered myself to the seat behind me and the interview commerced.
" How was the interview? Did you pass? Are you an editor yet?" Claire bombarded me with questions immediately I got into the house.
" Slow down Claire, one question at a time." I chuckled.
" You're keeping me in suspense Em!" She whined.
" The interview was fine , well I don't know if I've gotten the job yet but I hope I do."
" Anything else? Met a new friend?"
" No not yet but I picked up a form. I'm going applying for master degree." I pulled out the paper from my bag and showed her.
" This is so great."
" I know right, hopefully I'm going to be able to create a balance. I've never done this before."
" It's going to be easy and I'll be with you all the step of the way." She said opening her arms for a hug. I leaned into her arms and allowed her to hold me.
" Thank you Claire bear. You are the best sister one could ever ask for."
" Love you Em." We stayed in that position for a while in a peaceful silence.
" I'm finally leaving Jason for good" I could feel her body tense. I pulled away from her so I could see her facial expression. She kept mute looking at anywhere but at me.
" Claire please say something." I pleaded with her. I was expecting a reassurance or a validation that I was on the right part. I have always lived my life by seeking people's validation and opinions about my life and the decisions I take.
" You know you've said that a lot of times and you end up running back into his arms."
" I'm certain this time, this is what I want."
" Then you don't need any validation from anyone. Is this what you want?" I nodded my head agreeing with her.
" Then do it, do it without thinking about anyone but yourself. It's time to be selfish Em." Her words made a whole lot of sense.
" I need you to follow me to Jason's house tomorrow. I need to pack my stuffs."
" Sure definitely I would."
" Thanks. I also need a place to stay and —"
" You're my sister Em, you're always welcome to stay." She said interrupting my ranting.
" Thanks Claire" I said as I went to my room.
Claire pulled into the familiar driveway and parked in front of the house. I played with my finger nervous. I knew Jason's schedule so I know he wasn't going to be back home yet. At least not in the next two hours.
" Are you ok Em?"
" Yes I am" I slipped my key in the keyhole then twisting it to unlock the door. The house was exactly how I had left it except for the piling dirty dishes that were in the sink.
" This guy is a pig" Claire said scrunching her nose in irritation. I sighed looking around the place I once called home.
" Let's start with my clothes." We climbed up the stairs to I and Jason's room. I and Claire commenced packing. I didn't bother properly folding my clothes, I just kept throwing the clothes in. I needed to be as quick as possible before Jason is back. Finally we were done, we carried my five big suitcases down. It was then I realised I had nothing in the house except for my clothings. Immediately we carried the last suitcase down. The door swung open. It was Jason, he was not meant to be back yet.
" What are you doing babe?" He asked in a calm tone.
" That's none of your business." Claire answered him in a rude tone.
" It's my business when you're taking boxes out of my house." Of course he has to emphasize that It was his house.
" These boxes don't belong to you." Claire fired back. I stood there staring at him as they both bickered.
" Stop!" I shouted at the top of my voice. I could see a suprised expression on both their faces.
" Claire please wait in the car, I need to have a word with Jason" Claire scoffed before walking out clearly annoyed.
" Hey babe" he called out walking closer to me. I closed my eyes, in other to avoid the effect his presence had on me.
" Jason, I'm breaking up with you" I stuttered, making his lips curl into a smile.
" I knew I still had effect on you."
" Jason, I'm serious. I don't want to ever see you or cross path with you. We are done and this time it's for real." I said with a stern and confident voice.
He lowered himself on one knee, bringing out a ring from his pocket. I stood there shocked at what he was about to do.
" Would you marry me?"
