Chapter 10 - Don't know it pains

Chapter ten

Jason POV

I sat on the couch with my shattered ego like a fragile glass. The rejection has cut deep, like a wound that refuses to heal. I had expected her to have ran back into my arms, to have accepted the proposal and surrender to me as she always does. Instead she took a suprising action, she pushed the ring back to me with her eyes blazing in defiance. I stared at her stunned and clueless.

She rolled her suitcase out leaving me with a shattered ego and a urge to win her back immediately. My phone vibrating in my pocket jolted me out of my train of thoughts.

I swiped the answer button and placed it over my ear. It was Ben.

" Have you gotten her back?"

" Nope." I face palmed myself then ran my fingers through my hair.

" I thought you had it all planned out."

" Yes I did, but her reaction wasn't expected."

" Fuck" he swears

" Do you think you can track her for me, where I can see her alone. Somewhere free from her sister's influence."

" I'm on it, you'll get it within the next twenty four hours." With that I hung up.

The next day, I sat at work with a distracted mind as I waited for Ben's call or message to come in. Every notification that came in made me jitter. I was starting to get impatient so I took out my phone and called Ben. He picked on the second ring.

" I was just about calling you." He said from the other side of the phone.

" Gotten anything yet?"

" Well she is working as a junior editor at Xing publishing house."

" Working!" I exclaimed furiously

" Yes, she is. She's also a master's student at the college close to her job." Rage filled my whole body finding out she had disobeyed me and went ahead to get a job and further her studies.

" Is there anywhere she likes to hang out?" I asked packing my belongings to go out.

" She likes going to the library and she stays from three o'clock pm to eight o'clock pm" I glanced at my watch that was strapped on my wrist it was eight o'clock pm.

" I gotta go, thanks man"

" Anytime" the line went dead.

I got into the car and was able to locate the library. I parked at the gate waiting for her to show up.

I waited for about thirty minutes my eyes fixed to the entrance of the library my anticipation building with every pass second. My eyes wandering around before they locked on a familiar petite figure. She looked just as innocent as the day I saw her for the first time. I alighted from the car and leaned on the bonnet of my car. My gaze remained on her as she descended the steps outside leading outside the library. She walked oblivious of anyone or anything untill her eyes locked with mine and she froze.

She regained herself quickly trying to ignore me as she passed by me

" Babe" I called her reaching out my hand to hold her.

" Get your hands off me" she said pulling her wrist forcefully out of her grip.

" Emma! Stop being stubborn and come back home." I shouted, making her freeze on a spot. She closed her eyes and opened her eyes before replying me.

" Leave me the fuck alone Jason. Come close to me one more time and I'm going to get a restraining order" she said sternly.

I was really running out of options right now. I have no idea how to get her back. I decide to go and see her at Claire's place and beg her. I wanted her back for myself and for our plan.

I stopped by a bookstores to buy her a book and a pretty pink lock dairy that she had always wanted. I drove to Claire's neighborhood before make a beeline into her drive way. I parked at the other side of the street somewhere a bit hidden.

I got to the front door and I could hear the thumping bass sounds throughout the house. I rang the doorbell so many times but I got no response. In frustration, I pounded my fist on the door, only then did the volume of the music reduce. Few minutes later the door swung open revealing Claire in a bathrobe and she was breathing really fast.

" What are you doing here?" Her voice sounded hoarse. Sweat was dripping down from her neck to the valley leading down to her breast. I shaked the imagination of what she may have been doing.

" Where's Emma?" I asked

" None of your business."

" Claire I know we've never been best of friends but—"

" We would never be friends." Claire interrupted.

" You hurt my sister repeatedly, times without number." She said with a bitter tone.

" Claire listen to me."

" Leave here before I take legal actions against you." She slammed the door in my face.

I decided to wait in my car my eyes fixed on Claire's front door waiting for her return. I sat in my car watching the time tick. As the night darkness covered my eyes grew heavy and I drifted into a doze. The sound of a car engine jolted me awake. A sleek sedan pulled up and stopped directly in front of Claire's house and Emma stepped out.

' She is already seeing another guy?' I thought as rage started filling up my system.

The driver's door of the car swung open and my heart sank in as my worst enemy stepped out. I furrowed my eyebrows as I bursted out of my car and sprinted towards him. When I was close enough I tapped him on the shoulder, digging my fingers deep into his shoulder. I spun him around to face me before landing him a punch on his face.

" Jason!" Emma shouted.

He stumbled backwards, blood coming out of his mouth. His gaze landed on me, his bloody lips curled up into a smile. He pulled himself up and spat out blood.

" Always a backstabber."
